My first "big" concert was Alanis Morisette* :monkey4

Followed up shortly by a Bush, Goo Goo Dolls, and No Doubt concert :monkey4 :monkey4

*actually, it was Gordon Lightfoot, but I was just there with my parents so that doesn't count

I say concerts with parents count, if it is a legitimately big show. I saw the Traveling Wilburys with my parents when I was a kid, and am definitely glad they took me.

I also was at the Debbie Gibson concert with my family, as it was my sister's birthday present and had no one to watch me.

My first concerts by myself are a much better story, as I saw Radiohead and the Smashing Pumpkins (not together, obviously) in 1996. Although they were, literally, "by myself", as I didn't know anyone who wanted to go.

I have no problem with bootlegs at all. I've collected quite a few over the years.

I was lucky enough to see 10,000 Maniacs about 20 years ago. During the middle of the show Natalie stopped singing and walked off stage because some idiots decided to crowd surf and were kicking people in the head! Who crowd surfs at a 10,000 Maniacs concert?! Natalie finally came back out and said she would continue only if they stopped. Morons.

My first Concert was Elvis Presley in the early 70's in Nebraska. I was like 8 (give or take a year) and I was with my parents.

Love Natalie Merchant, I saw that she was going to be in San Diego just after Con ... made me a bit sad I couldn't stay. :monkey2

Get a FLIP Camera, its about the size of a cell phone and records good video and audio. I bring my Flip everywhere, and recorded alot of concerts with it. Its awesome for any shows, really anything you want to record.

Some bands and their management disapprove of this. So much so that they might even have an announcement over the PA before the band starts.

There are many reasons, it can be distracting to others, the band doesn't want ____ty quality audio and video recordings out there of their work, etc. No matter how good you think a youtube recorded video or audio recorded concert might sound.....it will never ever sound anywhere near as good as a professional recorded mixed and mastered live release by the musicians themselves. Of course I tend to believe only talented musicians follow this rule.

Which tend to be over-mixed, over-dubbed, over-cleaned up, etc. I'd much rather have a good quality audience recording or soundboard recording than a professionally released live album.

i say bootleg at will commander. i'm all for cheating record companies out of money. they've been cheating us and their own musicians for years.

i was hoping you went to see the Roger Waters The Wall show. i would have asked you to send me copies ASAP>

I sneak my camera in all the time.. I want to remember a little piece of what it was like to be at that show... the point of view I had.. something. Ticketstubs are a crappy way to remember a show.. Id rather have a few pictures or videos.

I wont be selling my videos (nor would anyone want them).. so what is the problem. I keep the viewfinder off and keep it chest level to not disturb other people behind me.

People taking pictures using flash 50 rows back.. now thats another story.

Another hobby of mine is capturing fans going crazy.. playing air guitar. I celebrate them.

Pearl Jam's Official Bootleg series is really good. They're professionally recorded without any over-dubs.

I remember hearing something about this. Do you know if that already went through Phoenix? I would love to see Roger Waters. I saw the Division Bell, but that was 12 or 13 years ago.

Official bootlegs like this are rare, but appreciated. Depeche Mode did the same thing on a recent tour, and they sound great. They sound live, but not "bootleggy".

But for every official release like that, there's a dozen live albums that sound like a studio album with applause.

My first concert was Michael Jackson! Yes, on the HIStory tour. Amazing! My next concerts were in this order: Pepper (awesome band from Kona), Hoobastank, Journey, and Elton John. All were good, but none compared to MJ back in 1997.
