Top 5 videogames of all time

No offense to the people who think COD4 rates to be on this list, but I have to wholeheartedly disagree. All that game is, is a mindless shooter game. Requiring no skill like its predecessors (CS, Halo 2,....) and it didn't even make great strides in the graphics community. Now I understand you can sit in front of the TV for hours requiring no brain power to play this game, but it seriously does not deserve to be on this list. Maybe this is just because I'm old school and have been around the block but I can't believe I'm seeing this title in so many posts

I think you'll find this is a thread for people to post their own favourites lists! It's not a thread to tell people what should and shouldn't be their favourite games....... He likes COD4, you don't, it's alright, it's not the end of the world; people have different tastes! You could put 'Barbie Horse Adventures' for all I care - just because you don't like something, doesn't mean everyone else has to not like it!

I have to kind of agree about cod 4. It was too short and too simple. I don't really like online deathmatch but I think that is the main reason why people love the game so much. In terms of single player shooters I personally prefer Killzone 2. Also Halo trilogy is way over rated. Again very simply gameplay and way too linear.

I wish I made this a top 10 list just so that I could add Pefect Dark ( still has better enemy AI than most recent FPS ) and Half Life 2 on there. Probably add Conkers bad fur day too on N64. That game managed to pull of so many styles of gameplay and it was hilarious.

I think people either over-estimate newer games, or over-estimate their nostalgia for older games (myself possibly included in the latter category). Thus, very few of the lists here are very good

Star Craft was a pretty bad ass game, as was Red Alert 2.

My list would be something like this i know they aren't the best games of all time but i loved them.

1 Shenmue (my Fave game of all time)
2 Shenmue 2
3 Gow 2
4 Wave 64 (had to add this me and my dad played 100's of hours trying to beat times we set)
5 Mario Kart

Loads of others missed off the list like COD4 etc way too many to list really

Mega Man X my favorite MM game cracks my top 10, but not my top 5.

1. Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear (the original and its sequel - the game that truly got me into the FPS genre and defined what a tactical shooter should be)

2. Quake 2 (a modders heaven, absolutely changed the way FPS games are built, modded, and played)

3. Civilization (no other game has had me waste as much of my life in one sitting as the original Civ game did when I was in college)

4. Half-Life (with its sequels, one of the truly great FPS franchises ever, story, graphics, and Gordon Freeman kicks ass)

5. COD4 (the only game on the list I have played only on XBox 360 - once I got it, it never left the tray for 6 months, it reminded me of all the great FPS games I used to play on the PC. Fun, fast paced, and crazy good multiplayer. It made me realize that a great FPS could exist on the console - though I do miss the mouse and keyboard)
