"Coming off its first five days in release, with an estimated gross of $201.2 million, Michael Bay's hit sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" took its place in the movie history books by breaking several major box office records.
From Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, the Paramount Pictures release joins "The Dark Knight" as only the second film in history to gross $200 million or more in its first five days. Simultaneously, the Transformers sequel eclipsed the previous Wednesday-Sunday record holder "Spider-Man 2" by grossing nearly $50 million more in ticket sales in the U.S. The film has taken over "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix's" previous title as biggest Wednesday opener, besting the film by over $15 million.
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" became the third largest worldwide opening weekend grosser, earning $274 million and beating out last summer's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Film has become the Studio's biggest international opener of all time, again besting "Indy 4" for the top honor, and ranking as the industry's 4th biggest opening of all time abroad.
The film's IMAX run also logged record-breaking milestones, becoming the biggest five-day gross for a Wednesday-opening title, with $14.4 million in tickets sales compared to "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix's" prior record of $7.3 million.
"Michael Bay has once again proven he's an outstanding filmmaker with a unique ability to connect with audiences," said Paramount Pictures Corporation Chairman and CEO Brad Grey. "The entire Paramount family is proud to be behind him and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with him in the future."
The 2007 release of "Transformers" opened to $70.5 million in the U.S. and eventually went on to earn $319.2 million domestically, and more than $700 million worldwide. The sequel has taken in $387 million worldwide to date, with final figures for the weekend due Monday."
Bring on Transformers 3!
totally agree. after 30 minutes into the movie i was ready for it to be over. the CGI was of course awesome, but the last battle was retarded.... i couldn't tell who was who because all the decepticons look exactly the same. meh...Oh God, not this excuse.
As long as Bay has the reins, yes.
Honestly do you love Batman & Robin? Or the Adam West series?
Maybe you'll love G.I.Joe, too.
Dogs Humping, Robots Humping, Robots Farting , Robot Balls, Robot Dicks, Stereotypical Gangsta Wannabes. Sex, Drugs, Swearing.
This is Transformers?
No wonder this movie is doing great. It plays to the lowest common denominator. It was a huge waste of time. There were some good parts, but the bad craps all over the good.
It sure was epic. Epically Retarded.
It actually makes me like the first movie a bit. That was at least not such a huge cluster^^^^.

Good movies and flops are judge on the box office take.
yeah i said that in the first movie....megatron and starscream looked exactly the same to me....and its the same in this movie. That's the only thing I have against the movie incarnations of the decepticons, they're all the same mix of tones on a grey scale, at least with the autobots there are colors to tell who's who, but in quick action, it's hard to separate decepticons, even some of the voices are close, Starscream and Megatron are similar enough.
Uh... NO. Box Office is and never has been the barometer for quality. Lots and lots of very bad movies make tons of money and lots of very good movies come and go with a whimper. It's been that way forever and always will be.
Like the movie all you want (you don't need to defend your own opinion). But if you're going to point at box office numbers as validation of that opinion you need to play a different tune. All it means is that the movie is popular (or that a ton of people went to see it)... it doesn't serve as proof that it's good.
It also made him look like a Bionicle.Fortunately the Fallen had those things sticking out the side of his head which made his design stand out.

I just got back from it and loved it!
Know what I didn't like about the movie.....Megan Fox!!! That baby voice of her's and she was just too........greasy! I just don't know what you all see in her.
There......I said it..........let the hating begin!!!
Let the haters suck on that.
TF2 is clearly a huge hit.
Very good examples of how handling of a subject matter can make all the difference in a story.
If someone wanted to, I'm sure an epic story could be written with the Transformers as character, the key in writing it would be to forget what Transformers are and just write as if they're people.

And we'll see how it does next weekend. Word of mouth is poor. Only one person I talked to liked it. EVERYONE else either didn't or hated it. To each their own but I'm predicting a major downfall come next weekend numbers, and not just the usual downfall.

...and by the same token, "good" (ie: movies I like) may do moderate to poor BO business but it doesn't stop me from watching them. This year, the two movies I really enjoyed and look forward to multiple viewings of (Watchmen & Terminator Salvation) both were considered BO disappointments, but they both were much better movies than this latest "Transformers" one (IMHO of course )...
If it weren't for STAR TREK, UP!, DRAG ME TO HELL and THE HANGOVER this Summer would be a total bust so far.
So far, this is where they're stacking up in enjoyment.
1. Star Trek
2. Terminator: Salvation
3. Wolverine
4. Transformers
