I said that also, until I had them in hand. I'm now selling 95% of my Weta collection. They just don't compare to these pieces, IMO. I actually love the look of the 3 characters in the pic above.
To each their own, I guess. I'm a "doll" only collector at this point unless some larger fully sculpted pieces come out like Kong v. Rex. The size of the 1/4 scales allows them to be displayed without looking crowded or junky. Most of the Weta pieces don't have enough "presense" to display separately and when you display them together they look "junky."
Cave Troll, Sauron, the Rider and Steed Series, the Treebeard bust, and "maybe" the Balrog are the only Weta pieces that you could display in an acrylic case on a pedastal effectively. Imagine putting a Weta Aragorn statue on a pedastal under an acrylic case and track lights. It would look pretty stupid. This is all my opinion of course, and everyone has a different display style. I'm just going for more of a "museum" look. See Gruson and CKing's collections as examples of what I'm going for.
