You really should see it in person first. The head is plenty big, I've stared at it for hours now and can't imagine it being bigger, would really look silly I think. And I don't see how the cape could be any less bulky unless you used a very thin material.

I dunno. To me the modified helmet makes it look more like a child wearing a Vader costume that is slightly too big.

I think it looks worse in the pic where the cape is made less bulky. Vader's cape always looked huge and flowing in the films so why wouldn't it be on a statue like this? As for changing the helmet, maybe the difference is noticeable in a small picture like that, but I seriously doubt it would be necessary after seeing it in person. Dave seems to be 100% satisfied with how his looks.

Chris, looking at your updated pic, again, the helmet is now too big and the cape way too flat. The cape should be rounding the shoulders more and the helmet is reaching "Dark Helmet" proportions. The helmet, in your pic, needs to be sized down just a bit, and the cape needs to flow better. Just MO. :)

ha finally...!!!! thats the Vader I grew up with...

Re: Vader has left the building!!

HA! Isn't though? That had me laughing as hard as the pic tomandshell posted. :D

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Fritz's shot is getting dangerously close to Spaceballs territory!!

As for the adjusted comparison picture, the only thing that amazes me more than how close the before and after shots look to each other is the thought of how much money it would take to produce such a minor amount of change.

But if it makes the owner happy, that's what's important, I guess. If money is not an issue and you actually see that much difference between the two, then you should do it.

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Well, I just ordered an 18x18x24 case for Vader (another $180) instead of ordering one large case to house both Ben and Vader in the same case dueling. While originally I had planned to pose them dueling, I'm affraid that much of these two pieces won't be seen since my shelving is along a wall, and the statue's would be turned to the side. After seeing Dave's pics, I want Vader facing forward into the room. Again, thanks Dave for the measurment. :)

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Mini, that's going to be a tight fit I think - those were the minimums for a case that I'd suggested. It might be worthwhile to wait until you have it in hand.

Re: Vader has left the building!!

I think when my Vader gets here I'm gonna post him like this. I really like this look Dave showed in this pic

Re: Vader has left the building!!

I'm wondering if they used different style capes in the film. The one on the PF is a semi-circle and is very large. But obviously that isn't the case with the one in the conference room scene.

Perhaps other screen shots show the larger cape?

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Dave,

How big does the helmet look compared to the PF 1/4 Han Solo head?
Does it look the same size or could you imagine the Solo head actually being able to fit inside the helmet?
Just curious.

-footprint of base 12.5" x 12" -but because of the way the cape hangs you'll want at least 16"

-back of base to tip of lightsaber~ 16"
-Height of Vader 21.5"
-Height to tip of saber - 22.25"

These aren't super exact, but close enough.

A case that is 18" square and 24" high would probably serve if you don't want alot of space around him.

I went ahead and kept my order in for the 18x18x24 case. I'm sure your measurments will be fine, and, if not, I can always order another case. I don't think I'll have to though. Having an inch of space on either side and front to back of Vader will be fine. As far as height, the tip of the saber being 1 3/4 inches from the top of the case is good too since the top of Vader's helmet is lower. I just confirmed my order with Angela over at CFC, and my case should be here by the Friday after next.

It's all good timing since my Code3 Vader TIE just shipped too. :D

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Chris, I'll measure the heads tonight - that's a good call.

Mini - I always think that more space is better - but I'll be interested in seeing how he looks in the case.

I hear ya, but I didn't want to go too big and over power the piece. Also, the other SS 1/4 statue's in my collection have cases that are minimal in extra space. I'll be sure to post pics once I have it all set-up.

Also, when measuring Han's head, be sure to compensate for the hair since Vader no longer has any. :)

Yes, but David Prowse did (not to mention his head is bigger than Ford's too).
