It does to me. That's all I can say. If Vader has a big head the he needs to quit letting those clones blow up his ego. LOL :p

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Guys,
You only have to look at the movie to see how big the helmet is.
Dave Prowse himself is quoted as saying the helmet was BIG on his head, and he's not a small guy.
Dave, the measurement you mentioned is not really of any use because it's the measurement around the forehead on the FACEMASK which would be the critical one. The "samuarai" helmet is obviously going to give a larger measurement because it is a lot wider than the face of the person who would be wearing the helmet.

At the end of the day, it's great if people are happy with it "as is" but I definitely intend to upgrade my statue with a correctly proportioned helmet / facemask and less bulky cape. I'm also hoping to remove the shoulder bells and tuck them under the chest armor a bit more to see if it helps the figure look narrower too (this is how Dave Prowse wore the costume in ANH).

I don't see any point in continuing the "I think it should be bigger / I think it's ok as it is" arguments because it's clearly a personal choice. For accuracy sake (based on my observations from the movie and the study of my authentic helmet casting) I personally think it needs to be bigger but I can respect those who see it differently.

Regarding the comments about "If Lucasfilm approve it, it must be right", I would draw your attention to the incorrect belt buckle details, the incorrect chestbox details, lack of widows peak on the helmet and also the incorrect lights on the chestbox (they never illuminated in ANH). In a nutshell, I don't give much credit to the people at Lucasfilm who approved these sorts of innacuracies on what is being sold as an accurate representation of the ANH costume specifically.

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Why didn't they just say it was from ESB!

ANYWAY I think he looks cool as heck I'll have mine tomorrow so I will be able to verify that he looks cool as heck.
What I cant understand is how people think Attakus Vader II looks better than Sideshows? Vader I looks awesome I agree but Vader II has the "eek a mouse look" and a even smaller head.

I agree. I'm happy with how SS looks and it looks very screen accurate to me but to you it doesn't. Different strokes for different folks as they say.

As I said above I agree. It's a personal thing and I don't see anyone really changing their minds. Though some might once they get it in hand.

They let all that go and felt it was representative of ANH and Vader so I'm going to trust them on it. Though LF does make me shake my head once in a while. Well, no offense to you CK but they are the ones who made the movie and studied way more than you so I trust them more than I would trust your studies of Vader. Before anyone flips out on me for making it personal I'm not.

No offense taken. With all due respect, you only have to look at the photos in Star Wars: Chronicles (which has some excellent photos of the ANH costume) and you'll see all of the discrepancies that I've identified. Just watch the movie to see that the chestbox doesn't light up. Therefore, these are my factual observations based on just looking at the reference material which LFL supplied in books. If I can see it just by looking at their own photos, why the hell couldn't their "approval people" see it too?

I could do a series of side-by-side photo comparisons to prove every point to you but I get the feeling I'd be wasting my time.

Chris

I'll have to check the SWC out. :D Next time I watch the movie I'll look at the chestbox. It's something that I've never really paid attention to again because the movies are good and that tends to grab my small attention span. :wacky

I doubt you want to do that Josh. It would require to get off the pc chair and not post for a bit. :wacky

Re: Vader has left the building!!

I can certainly understand why people would defend a $300+ purchase. But the fact remains, the Sideshow mask is too small and it is not something that should be quietly swept under a rug. We need to let Sideshow know our feelings if we are ever going to see a more accurately proportioned Vader....1/6 anyone??

But your 1:1 is an accurate ANH helmet, right? So we could compare and see if the PF is a 1/4 scale representation of that.

Isn't it only being swept under the rug if you feel it has a problem though?

Good point Dave. I'll measure it and let you know. How exactly did you measure it again?

I actually would trust CK's judgment on Vader much more than anything coming out of Lucas's mouth. Do you think Lucas knows the difference between the ANH, ESB, and ROTJ helmets? Hell no! Based on CK's posts here and on the RPF, I'm quite confident that he knows more about the Vader helmet than Lucas himself. Most of the original people who worked on Vader have long since left ILM (one of them posts on the RPF as a matter of fact). The people who "made the movie" aren't even there anymore.

Chris, please PM me the details once you get a new head sculpt commissioned. If you can get the head larger, the widow's peak added, and make the teeth more accurate, then I'd love to get one. I could then get it painted with a more grayish paintjob. I love what you did with the 1/4 Reeve, so just let me know. Thanks!

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Yes, and as you can see if you look at the proportions compared to his shoulder width, the mask/helmet still is 'big'.
