Bag End is really nice. I've seen it at a friends place and at comic-con I'll have to get it sometime and regrab Moria.

The only thing that detracts from this is the trees. They look so blocky and takes away from the realism of the piece. It's unlike Orthanc where you could feel that under certain lighting, could pass as a movie scaled model of the actual item on screen. I felt the same way with Bag End.

Trees look great to me. Its gonna be very hard make each leaf on a tree but what Weta was able to accomplish looks fantastic.

I think it'll be hard to judge unless you can see them up close. In the photos on the product page they look 'blocky', but on the photos from the Weta Cave and on the 360 turnaround they look really impressive and add alot to the piece.

Definitely very difficult to sculpt the trees to scale, and the blockiness was what I noticed as well on my initial viewing. But putting that aside, the buildings and landscape are really impressive.

I like the plain black base underneath because it doesn't take away from the environment itself. :monkey1

There's hardly any of that black base left!

As for the trees . . . I've been doing some environment modeling myself, and what can be purchased stock from places like Michael's looks a bit less blocky than the trees I saw on Bag End.

And I asked Tim exactly that, his reply:

The website photos, the website video and the photos taken in the Weta Cave are all of the exact same Rivendell Paint Master sculpture. Any perceived differences are due to the quality of camera being used, the skill of the photographer and the type of lighting.

This is a great example of how collectibles can look completely different from one online photo to the next, even though the actual collectible is the same or very similar.

We respectfully suggest that whenever you see photos of collectibles online, please keep in mind that "photography" can have a major effect on how the collectible looks.

Our website photos are taken by our in-house professional photographer, with the best equipment and studio controlled lighting.

Yeah, different cameras and how good someone is at taking shots can really make things look good or bad. Thats why when I take photos I get really picky of when and how they look.

Are you gonna look at your Environment always from 6 inches away or play with your Heroclix in Rivendell?....answer should be no I hope.....Micheals does have great little trees that I have bought in the past yes...Great for Toho Dios

I have a discerning eye, and can spot stuff like that ;-)

Doesn't everyone look at their collection at all? Every nook and cranny?

Trees and such look great to me. I'll give it a good look over when I look at it but not enough to just get ticked over the trees.

I missed out on the first 300, so I'll wait until I've seen this piece in person at Comic Con before I decide to buy the open edition, though I expect it to look better in person than in the pics.
