I don't need to link him to a certain scene it's just the sequence that it reminds me of.

I agree with the group that we most likely will see 5-6 statues at comic-con mixing of a few more Dwarves, Trolls, and maybe the Goblin King.

I can't wait, the excitment is building like it was for Riv so I can't wait ti crash the website and see what happens. I think there will be one or two extras just to keep our eye on Weta!

Yeah, I'm very curious to see what it is and what the ordering early may be. I hope its in-stock.

Another signed item? And why oh why is it on the box? :(

I hope they had this offer when the statue first came up for order. Most of us would already have Dwalin. I'm not gonna buy another one just for the actor's signature on the box. :thud:

From Daniel Falconer, artist at Weta:

"By now you have seen Gollum is finally coming to the 1/6th scale range. We have plans for a deep line with plenty of villains and heroes. Gollum is but the first. As our statues or mini environments typically take up to a year to go from first concepts to shipping, we currently have many that you have not seen or caught whiff of yet in the works here at the Workshop. You'll get to see a number of them at Comic Con this year, if not sooner.

To add to that tease, I will say that some of the statues that are currently in the works I think represent our finest work. We're working so far in advance on new pieces that what you see in the market already kinda represents us just warming up in some ways! We're proud of every piece so far of course, but, much like the movies themselves, I think the best is yet to come! I can't wait till you guys get to see it/them."

I saw that. I think this line will be every bit as deep as the old SSW line and that is a good thing. I'm very eager and curious to see who will be making the trip to Comic-Con as far as what statues. It sounds like we may see more than six statues.

I will say the work that Weta is doing to these statues for The Hobbit are their best work ever. You can see the improvement in detailing, paint, etc over the years.

I saw it yesterday, too.
I'm very happy these days. We have a lot of news (we can love or not the statues/busts or their prices, but there's news) and the best is still to arrive, on the road to CC.

Being relatively new into this collecting hobby (or obsession?:lol), I've missed out on a lot of very good SSW pieces which I'm still trying to acquire bit by bit if I get lucky. Now that Weta has presented us with an opportunity to own their The Hobbit collectibles, and seeing that the design, sculpture, and paint on these statues have gotten much better (thanks to the latest technology), imho this gives me reason to be thankful and excited for the upcoming releases. I won't say I will buy every statue they will release (but so far, I have :wink1:), but I'd say I'll give more focus and attention on the Weta releases. They have excellent customer service, you earn Weta dollars for every purchase, in my case they have a NZ warehouse which is close to Australia which saves me on shipping cost, and of course not to mention the excellent craftmanship on the statues - I have really no reason to complain. I just count my blessings! :)

Well said. I've been collecting Middle-earth since December 2003 and the ride has been fun. Not that it hasn't had its ups and downs but its been worth the price of admission. It really is amazing to look at the work Sideshow is doing as well as Weta and think what a fantastic time to be a fan of Middle-earth.

Wow,that's almost 10 years of collecting! You couldn't have said it better Josh. It's indeed a great time to be a collector! :yess: And I'm enjoying the ride at the moment! :hi5:

Yeah, it does and doesn't feel like that long. I have a hard time more often than not thinking that I have pieces I've had that long. It is. I wish newer collectors could have been along for the ride that was the SSW The Lord of the Rings, but this ride is pretty special so it's nice to have wonderful folks along for the ride. :hi5:

Now would be an ideal time for WETA to venture into the land of split payments as the forecast is looking gloomier than a winter night next to Orodruin for my wallet :monkey2

(But b****y fantastic for my display room :yess: )

That would be cool if they started that especially if things are really about to pick up with The Hobbit license.

:lecture :exactly: :goodpost:

I just checked, I thought my first order was Elessar but it was actually the Gollum as Gollum companion statue on November 18, 2003. This year will officially be my 10 years anniversary with Sideshow/Weta. :rock

You beat me by just a month. :gah: :lol I never ordered that Gollum statue. Not sure why to be honest. Ditto my friend. :hi5:

Hmm I'll have to check when my first order was. But I'm sure it was 2003, with the Bilbo statue.

I hope Moe is excited by this news from Weta, as I think he is clearly the most passionate on these boards about seeing new statues! Although he may not like the price tags!! :lol
