Thanks, it will be kind of hard to pull the trigger seeing as though this will be the most expensive statue I have bought.

I think the correct question would be "What is the market value?" There is no way that hunk of polystone and cloth is worth 1300 buckaroonies.

these 'grails' are so not worth the price. onward and upward with some new blood for alot less.

I so agree. It's just hype. Once new things come up, people will want to spend their money on new designs, better sculpts, for much less. Who's gona spend 1300 bucks for a toy (I'm sorry, IT IS a toy!... art does not come in copies of 100s...products do) when the price of petrol is nearly double that of a year ago?

Hulk will dethrone Doom very soon in value..and will reach new height in polystone grails...lolll

To that I say - prints. As a collector of wildlife art, it's quite difficult to ever get a sole original copy, and art is most often marketed in prints in series of several hundreds. An original work is usually worth over a thousand at least, depending on the artist/photographer. Prints of quality artists or photographers can easily cost upwards of $100 or several hundred. Toys are items that I think one would deliver over to children, wherein you have to take into account such things as playability. It would be foolish to allow a child to play around the SSW Sauron statue, or the Bone Clones Siberian Tiger skull. Not a lot of "toy"-ness to take into account there, and I would be concerned for the well-being of the child in either case.

Doom is worth what all the other sought after statues are worth: A combination of what the bidders at the time are wiling to pay, how hot the economy is, and if a better one replaces it. Let's face it, it will be a long time, if ever, the current SS Exc Doom sculpt gets beat out. That leaves the other two, and with the economy in a slump right now, prices go down. The first thing that goes down in price are arts, collectables, and yes the statues fall in both those categories. Of course, I am speaking generally. I think that is how it is though.

Hmmm... good post. However... The 1st piece is art. The 1st sculpt, the 1st paint, the 1st photo. That's the art. The rest are merchandise. If all copies were art then the original painting of the mona lisa would not be worth a penny more than the countless pictures and copies of it. But that is not the case is it? Just because technology allows you to copy your work over and over again, so you can sell it over and over again, does not mean that you are selling pieces of art. The 1st sculpt of Doom or Hulk etc is what I call the original art piece. The hundreds of others are mere copies. And as for your toy argument. I'm sorry but it is a toy. Just because you wouldn't give it to your child to play doesn't mean it's not a toy, it means it's an adult toy, an expensive toy. And the reason people are not playing with them is because they've cost so much and there aren't many to go around if it breaks. It's sideshowtoy.com not sideshowart.com for a reason.

What the ^^^^ are you laughing at? The last two on the bay had bids in the $1300's

first, don't take an aggressive posture with me bud! i'll steal your girlfriend! :lol

second, i'm laughing at the hype still surrounding a statue that isn't worth $1300. so here's some rolling laughs for your confrontational immaturity and the suckers still overpaying for doom.

First off, god I hope you are going to SDCC

Secondly, any statue is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it

Opinions on price are just that, opinions. Fact is what it's selling for so I have no idea why Tyler is so full of laughs over it. IMO, I would not pay $1,300 for it either, but that does not mean it's not "worth it" to someone willing to pay it.

I paid about $1200 for mine a year ago and it's by far the most I've paid for any collectible. It's worth it to me and it certainly is the one of the best PF's SS has ever or will ever make. The detail in the throne is second to no other PF.

Hulk may overtake this in value, but it's still not as cool as the Doom. Hulk just has that 'WOW' factor by it's sheer size.

There are a lot of us that have cancellation remorse from this one. I'm sad to say I'm one of them :monkey2

Yup, not alone no doubt on this one. I just really kick myself for not even ordering the stinking thing. Same with The Hulk too.
