Yes, I definitely think new rules or new structure is called for. theRPF has an interesting way of doing it - just showing what you've done goes in the appropriate section. An "Interest" thread and "FS" go in the Marketplace. Maybe add a "Customs" section to the Marketplace and this forum would be just to show stuff.

thats a great idea

:exactly:

Please make this so. I have posted my fare share of interest threads but don't particularly like placing them in the customs section, there is just no where else to put it. This would be great or even a commerce section under the Customs thread? :dunno

Thanks for hearing the cries of the people :)

I can only post from my perspective and as a former regular customizer and poster on these boards my posting frequency, and displaying my work has faltered due to circumstances, less money and less time as Im now in full time employment and a 4 year old son.

Ive a number of projects on the go that have never been completed by myself and a number of commisions outstanding from artists on this board also I might add

Ive not 'made' the time to finish works

I should . . . but priorities change.

I think once I start . . I might get bitten by the bug again and find a new momentum . .

Then again

. . .

I do look at the boards and comment from time to time on the works

But as I know youve got a new person in your house hold . . Im guessing you will find it harder in a few years also

. . .

But I must try harder . . its been noted :)

This will mean cutting down commissions because only people with 50 posts, who've been here for 2 months will be able to get on board to get a head or whatever. It will greatly effect the ability to get projects done where we need 15 people or w/e to get a head made, mark my words, it will lead to even fewer customs being made and shown here.

This is exactly why I hate these kinds of threads. Theres really nothing wrong, we have a show your shelves section right above this that would seem to be exactly what it is people want, a place to just show there work. :dunno

If the commerce stuff just becomes a subforum to the customs section then that shouldn't be a problem. That's why I think moving that stuff to the marketplace would be a terrible idea. Not only would it be confusing to newcomers, but as you said, it also excludes them becuase of the post number requirements.

Honestly whats the big deal?

I leave the forums for 24 hours and only one page worth of threads gets bumped, all I have to do is scroll one freakin page of stuff to see what few thread titles interest me, it takes all of under a minute, are people really that lazy that we need to overhaul the entire section? You scroll down you see what you want, you click, it couldn't be simpler. You guys act like this section is polluted each day with 40 new pages of spam to go through to find a custom thread.

It's not a big deal to me honestly, but is having two sections in the custom forum such a big deal either? It seems to work quite successfully in the Star Wars section.

As Ray pointed out, we did it before and it didn't work out, thats why it is the way it is now, nothing is wrong, if its not broke don't fix it.

Not to be a ____ but it seems like elvis complained and all the sudden its like lets overhaul the whole thing. Again why? What he wants is a place to show his work, I don't see whats wrong with the show your shelves section or the thread he has in this one.

All this thread really accomplished was bringing a few people who don't even customize into this section to be a ____ and take a cheap shot at the prices customizers are charging from what I can gather.

Deckard, the customs for sale and interest threads have become dominate and the "true customizers" don't like that it takes attention away from their threads. that's what the gripe seems to be.

There have actually been quite a few people (besides Elvis) who have recommended that the custom forum be split up, before this thread was started. I think it just brought the subject to Dave's attention again.

Not true, what he wants is to get the chance to see other people work, and to encourage them to post their work.

This is how I'm reading it, that there is an elitism of some who are sad face that not enough people are telling them there stuff is awesome because too many things for sale and confusing. :dunno

The question itself is offensive imo, and implying people with stuff for sale aren't worthy of showing it off and a nuisance. Like they aren't "true" customizers worthy of sharing the section.

I buy yellow shirts instead of buying white ones and dying them yellow, oh noes. :panic: :lol

Again Show your Shelves section people, you want nothing but praise and no adds, thats your place.

Yeah, it's not just that elvis complained. I've felt this issue brewing for a while now, I knew it was just a matter of time before it came to a head. I'm honestly not sure if splitting the forum is a good idea or not. Theoretically, there's no reason why it shouldn't work, but as has been said, it was tried before with disastrous results.

So far I've agreed with everything you've said. I don't see a problem either. Not to mention the commissions are also customs! I dunno, this thread hurts my head. I'm just going back to looking at all the cool figures and leaving this to everyone that likes to debate.

The whole point of Elvis' post was that he enjoys viewing other people's personal customs in the Customs section.

That element seems to be on the decline and is being replaced with commission, pre-order, and interest threads. All of which are commerce related.

Eh....what's the point. People who want to turn this into a personal attack will do it in spite of logic.

Firstly the stuff for sale on commission is still custom work you can look at and enjoy without buying, get it?

Second, don't try to be a ____ and insult me, Seb and I are friends and have done alot of work on projects and still are currently, I'm not looking to attack him, my point is one person complained and it caught Dave's attention, my surpise comes from these threads being made daily in the announcments section calling for similar change that are often scoffed at.

And third alot of what elvis himself shows is work he did on commission.

What about adding a section under Customs for Show your Customs?
I really would not want to see Custom works mixed in with all the show your shelves threads...that would make it even more difficult to find custom threads, imo.

I for one, do not do customs - I paint some kits and stuff but I don't have the talent for small scale like 1/6. I do however very much enjoy looking at the custom work of others on this board and appreciating them as art and seeing all the hard work/creativity that went into making them. I would love to have these types of threads be all in one area and judging by the voting, it seems like I am not the only one.

I don't see anything wrong with having the business side of customs being separated from those wanting to show off work and sharing tips and ideas to others wanting to try their hand at making their own figure.

You complain that people are basically lazy and can't be bothered to scroll through several pages to find what they are looking for...but why can't you be bothered to click on a separate forum to see sales/interest threads or showcase threads?

I can't remember how long ago it was tried. :dunno But the customs section (especially commissions and interest threads) has really exploded and I don't see the problem with trying to make things a bit more organized. If it doesn't work no reason it can't be put back the way it was.
