How about keep this section open for all the people that want to build commissions/sell stuff.

But in the Indy, LOTR, GI Joe, DC, Marvel, etc they get the subforums and those places can be used for people sharing ideas and helping each other.

I don't read every thread in this section, so maybe I'm missing all the teamwork and love between customizers, but from the limited amount I do spend here vs the time I spend in the SW customs threads IMO the difference is like night and day.

I truly believe that this section is too big and too diverse and drowning in the commissions. If the section was divided by license you will start getting the smaller (but closer knit) pockets of collectors supporting each other much more, like you do in the SW one.

What I'm most worried about is that all this will do is create two threads for every custom.

Were going to end up with a Dude thread in the Commerce Customs for selling the DUde and a Dude thread in the Show your customs for showing off the Dude that people just bought from the Dude sale thread. And guess what. The showing off threads still going to have links to Rainman's site to go buy the Dude.

Nothing will be accomplished except more space being eaten up and me needing to look at 2 Dude threads for updates instead of one. More time, more clutter, and more eaten up bandwith and considering the front page gallerys still aren't back online after about a year I suspect this will make things far worse.

Its the same idea where they take out a circle intersection and try to build a overpass only to confuse all the drivers who've been doing it the circle way for 20 years. In the long run nothing is more conveiant or quicker and it took up alot of time and money.

I'm not even really into SW anymore, but I still check in on the SW custom section just because there's such a cool community vibe there. I think that's what a lot of the old-timers are missing in this section, as that is very much what it used to be here. For better or worse though, the board has fundamentally changed, and maybe there's no going back to that.

I think there are totally pockets of support. But they're segregated in the individual threads. Look into any of the threads here that are based on a 'theme' custom and it's there. The LOST thread is one example and one of the few I've been apart of. Or in Whedonville, the Firefly thread(s). Both are great examples. I'm sure it's no different in the Braveheart thread, or the Neo thread. It's there.

That's what a Moderator is for. It will be his job to see that thread are in the right section and move them if necessary.

Thats another thing, look how many people were aliented by the supposed "True Customizers" like Howes, Dark Artist and Les, people still owed stuff to this day. Thats what drove people away and turned people off to the custom work.

Add to this Hot Toys is now hand painting and matching if not better quality then most customs so people prefer to go comment on that. THe 1/6 game has changed greatly and a new section isn't going to recapture some nostalgic old feeling.

Or the BTTF and Walking Dead threads... still plenty of support, I know I get about 15 PMs a day relating to custom questions or just back and forth.

My follow up question is if there is a Dude commission and just 15 people are waiting for updates on the sculpts progress, shouldn't the seller simply PM or email these updates? And why should the thread be bumped with "any progress?" posts when a PM could be sent to the sculptor? Bumping threads shouldn't be a substitute for PMs.

Edit: The actual updates are probably welcome posts, as they do show off cool work, but constant posts by the 10-15 buyers of a head sculpt pushing threads away by an amateur customizer is sorta messed up (IMO). You don't get that in the SW threads. If an amateur posts something their thread floats because 1)people are posting helpful comments about it and 2) there aren't 20 commission threads with 15 people each going "put me on the list" or "wow".

Can't "put me on the list" comments be done via PM?

Another smaller factor is that some of us "oldtimers" don't post that often anymore and when we do, we're often buried rather quickly... If we want to keep relevant we need to post more as some people don't look past the first two or so pages...

Yep. We have 3 in this section already and adding one more will help keep things in order.

I understand what you're saying. But I also think it will be the exception to the rule. There aren't THAT many 'full customs' being put for sale so your example will almost be the exception.

If they do get divided, you'd have a Head Sculpt interest thread posted in a commerce section that would most likely develop into a sale thread. That 'should' only be full of 'count me in' and 'payment sent' posts.

Then in the 'show-off' section we would have the 'Build threads' with all of us posting like it is now, giving recipes and advice, only without all the interest threads/posts peppered in.

:exactly: Business in the front, party in the back.

My inbox is full of people I already need to keep track of, on top of about 15 pms a day just like hows things going stuff, and now you want to add like 20 people a day pMing for updates and add me?

I literally have to delete PMs just to send a new one and theres some I can't delete yet. My inbox is at capacity even with 1000, so no I can't afford to run a project like The Walking Dead that way at all.

It sounds like you need a better file management system, or give people your email address. Its not everyone else's problem that you get a lot of PMs and they shouldn't have to scan over what is essentially 10 different customizer's PM Inboxes to get to threads they are interested in.

Also, its risky business to rely on a third party for your systems need. If you were handling all this through Yahoo thats one thing, but what if this site closed shop, no offense to Dave, but stuff happens.

I agree with the comment about people who are just posting their work to share it, gets pushed to the back. The interest threads get more play so if you are not showing something to ask people to buy it, then your thread fades quickly.

Then you have other situations where some members will only comment in threads of people they are loyal to or follow so if you post something that one of the "bigger names" have already done, the thread tends to not get a lot of play either. Personally I'd rather get negative comments on something I post then to just be ignored. At least if people tell you what they think could make something better, it would be helpful to learn from it and try to improve.

To be 100% honest, and I'm sure I'm not alone, and I'm sure I'll get some flack for this, but the only reason I come on the customs board is to see who's making something awesome that I want to own. The only reason I ever click on anyone's experemintal postings of what they are working on currently is because it's mixed in with the stuff I'm here for. Move the offerings section to another sub forum and I'd never see anyones work unless it's for sale and I'm interested. Like I said though, I'm sure a lot still would, but I'm sure I'm also not alone, so it sort of defeats the purpose of having your work be seen if there's a mass exodus.

Thats like saying its a shame that the SW fans don't get to see the LOTR items...

Things should be sorted based on interest and its up to the individual to navigate more than 1 forum if they have multiple interests.

The issue isn't about making people not interested in something interested. Its about making sure that interested people can actually find what they are looking for.

This works both ways, for the sellers and the amateurs. Split it up and it helps everyone.

No offence but did it ever occur to you people do look at your thread and don't care to comment? Moving the threads people want as Wofford said, isn't going to trick them into giving you more attention, they will continue to walk right past you into the commerce section.

I did this very thing not long ago. Posted a custom mystique Jessica and I teamed up to make. Started with triad parts and it came out unbelievable. I posted here and did not get a single response. Then Jessica posted over on osw and everyone loved it. I dunno, I try and give feedback on almost every custom thread but I do get the sense that there's just not a lot of interest in ppl's personal customs anymore. That just seems to be the way it's gone.

That is because the "elitists" don't think it's high quality enough. Anyways, I try to comment on EVERY thread from everyone, just to keep things moving, but I guess in this particular forum I'm spamming it seems.
