I enjoyed both movies. The vibes I got from the movies when I left the theaters after viewing them were so different. I gave the nod to Batman in large part because I never saw the ending coming.

Dave, not a horrible actor in the group but if you think any of them are A list actors...well, I don't want to be harsh either, but maybe I was right. Oldman and Freeman are the best actors in the group and Oldman's Gordon plain out sucks. Weak candy ass. I love Freeman, but in TDK? Flat. Eric Roberts doesn't even make a tier. He's in the bleachers.

Freeman is A list.

Gordon sucks? He was great. The character was actually given something to for once in all these movies and tv shows.

I agree on Roberts though, he was the only real weak performance/character in the movie. Tom Wilkinson's Carmine Falcone owned the hell out of him.

both films were immensly enjoyable, but the dark knight was by far the better film in terms of acting and storyline

Some hardcore sentiments flying around this thread! I wonder how much of it runs along the DC/Marvel lines? I love the Marvel universe way more than the DC universe, but I like Batman a lot more than Iron Man, both in comics and on film. The Dark Knight Returns was one of my first serious introductions to comics, if that tells you anything ...

Iron Man was great - it came out way better than I could have ever expected. All of my compliments are the same as everyone else's. The film was a lot of fun and was a lot lighter in tone than Dark Knight, but given the story and all the players (from Favreau to Downey) it's to be expected. I have to say though that the movie did suffer a bit from the same thing that almost all "origin" movies suffer from. It didn't have the leeway to explore the characters without spending significant time creating the hero. A lot of hero movies suffer that, from Batman Begins to Spider-man, but part of the fun is seeing the origin and Iron Man handled it well.

The Dark Knight has a completely different tone; much more brooding and not nearly as light-hearted and effervescent as Iron Man but that's not really at all surprising. Stark is the playboy who loves being a playboy; Wayne is the playboy who loves being Batman. Dark knight was much more serious to me and I'll admit it - I thought the Joker actually
killed Gordon
and I was left sincerely surprised when he returned and I'm far from an ignorant and naive film goer. Maybe I got too caught up in the movie, maybe I was honestly surprised - it doesn't matter. However the Dark Knight means more to me as a film than Iron Man though I find both to be shining examples of the superhero genre.

We'll never know if Dark Knight crossed the $500 million mark because of Ledger or his death; or if Iron Man would have cleared $600 million if Downey died; or if anyone in 1997 would have thought Titanic would be the top grossing film of all time (disregarding inflation adjustment for you nitpickers) even though it has a title song by Celine Dion. But things happened the way they did and "what if's" can be speculated forever with no resolution.

Is it really 4am? That's it. I'm going to bed.

All the kids need to stop replying if they cant do it with civility.

No need for harsh comments or insults, its just a thread about a couple of films.

As for me, as I've seen neither so I will hold my vote until I eventually do.

Gordon IS weak...and obviously a crappy cop or he would've sniffed out at least one of the rats in his unit. He wouldn't even consider the thought. WEAK!!! And...Freeman is not A list. He's an excellent actor but you will not find him in a movie that he has to carry.

I think that the whole point of Gordon NOT sniffing out the Rat was supposed to show his own loyalty. The idea being that in Gothom NO ONE is above corruption given the right circumstances, but if no one trusts anyone else the system has already failed. In fact, I think that was the ENTIRE point of the ENTIRE movie. The Rats in Gordons unit, the Hostage scenes, the impending death boats, the whistle blower on Bruce wayne, the hospital explosion threat. ALL of it was set up by the joker to turn the city against itself. So, basically, they made Gordon just as reliable and loyal to the city as Batman.

As for Freeman, you don't have to be a solo star to be A-list. You have to be a quality actor IMO. In almost every movie I have ever seen, the supporting characters are as important or MORE important then the main characters. Freeman is capable of complimenting anyone excellently, which makes the main character look better. Definately A-list.

haven't seen either, are you serious?? omg i think someone needs to go on a date. :sick:sick. just a little fun, don't ban me now:rotfl:rotfl

Dark Knight for sure. it was a much richer, deeper and thought provoking movie. Iron Man was awesome and a heck of a lot of fun, but didn't have staying power like Dark Knight.

i hear you on waiting till DVDs, but you might want to check out Dark Knight in the IMAX theatre. it is an unbelievable experience, and something that can never be matched by a home theatre setup, no matter how amazing it is.
