As usual Josh, you see YOUR point of view and your's alone. I guess to you the Ewok cartoon adventures and muppet guest spots are part of it and count?

Count whatever you want to. You're allowed just like I am allowed to discount whatever I want to. Yes, to ME the movies are SW, not every little thing someone feels like cashing in on.

One novelist can kill Chewie and another can decide to bring him back if he feels like it. It's just silly. There are SO many books, comics, video's, games and whatever else you can think of.

SW is a money making machine plain and simple and they will bleed it dry with whatever they can come up with. It doesn't mean we all have to buy into it. To me, SW = movies.

Will you be getting the Darth Malak bust?

OWNED!!!

No idea. Even if I do I don't count it as part of the true SW story. I just like the games.

I agree, but it's so long before the movies in the SW Universe that I take it for what it is, a great story with interesting characters.

I won't disagree that there are a lot of crappy things in the EU, but you love the CW cartoons, and you love the KOTOR video games, so that's two things right there. At least give a couple things a chance is all I'm asking. I'll give you some Summer reading next time you're up.

Well, I don't think I said ( correct me if I am wrong ) that the enire EU sucks balls. I just said that I don't count 200 novles, 1,000 comics and what-not as part of the story. It is what it is...EU, buy it or don't and for the most part I don't. I do love the KOTOR games and the CW cartoons. The CW cartoons tie right into the movies. The post ROTJ stuff is just several novelists ideas of what they want it to be, not a real tie in or film written by Lucas.

I am not slamming the EU for those that like it and buy it. I am just saying that many of us have the right to say most of it is crap if we think it is.

I actually tried reading the Thrawn books, but got bored halfway through the first one.

The first Thrawn book is pretty slow, I'll give you that. But it's by far the worst book of the 7-8 that I have read. That trilogy gets better with each book and the books after that are non-stop great.

And I'm not arguing with your opinion, you're entitled to it. But as such a big SW fan, I think you owe it to yourself to at least give more of this material a chance. I never plan on reading everything, but that's why we have people here to tell us what's good and what's crap.

For me, the EU stopped havingany relivance when someone decided to kill Chewie. I was already on the border with it because it all seemed so silly. The Emperor is dead, oh no, here is his clone. The force has balance now, no wait, there are more bad guys and one makes Luke turn bad, but then he's good again. Let's kill a main character to stir the fans up. Luke gets married. Han and Leia have Jedi twins. It just all got very silly IMO.

Sometimes I wish Lucas would make a VII, VIII and IX just so all that EU stuff would be seen as the bunk it is! LOL

I'd love to see a 7,8, and 9. But it won't be done by Lucas if it's done at all. And I hate to tell you, it would most likely draw from some of the material that's already been written. The Emperor's Clone and Luke going to the dark side were apart of some comic that I never read, but know enough about. I agree it's pretty silly (at least the whole clone part). I have no problem with Luke eventually being seduced and then coming back (hey, it happened to his Dad). The Han and Leia side story is actually one of the best in the EU that I've read. How Leia tries to deal with her Jedi training while trying to hold together the New Republic.

I like Chewie and all, but he certainly is a character that can be killed off. None of these characters can live forever. I don't know how long Wookies live, but he had to be getting pretty old if he was fighting in the Clone Wars.

How am I doing this? I in no way discounted what you said and in no way am not seeing your point. As a matter of fact I said everytime that not liking the EU was fine but that to try it out and see what you liked. I'm saying that the EU is part of SW for me. The stuff that ties into the movies I should say. You're the one who said that if you like this stuff then you're a fanboy.

As far as the two things you mentioned are just you poking fun of my point.

I agree. I haven't said otherwise. I've said to me SW is all the things I said earlier. Never said you where wrong nor anyone else. If you felt that way then you took what I said wrong.

I agree but just because someone else likes what's outside the movies doesn't make them a fanboy. It just means they like a little broader version of SW.

I hate 99.9999999% of all EU but let me tell you... PT EU tends to be much easier to swallow.

But....

DARK LORD: THE RISE OF DARTH VADER is a great book that, IMO, deserves to be canon. :rock

Is being called a fanboy an insult?

Apparently to some people.

So I guess saying a person is a fanboy who plays with dolls would be the3 ultimate insult. :lol

Yeah, they would have been PWN3D

Some of the EU is actually considered canon in the Star Wars universe (but a small part of it though).

But lots of the EU characters get overrated.

I think that Knights of the Old Republic is actually considered to be canon (at least the general story of the games, probably not the comics) and there's Shadows of the Empire. I'd say maybe 1/4 of the novels and maybe a few comics are canon and the rest just conforms to a general Star Wars storyline where the main events are canon but the rest could be up in the air.

I think EU can be considered a gray area because alot of the books most recent books are (Jedi Order on up) have a very heavy influence from LucasFilm. In fact I think the NJO is LucasFilms idea and the authors were sought out to write it. I know that Lucas had alot to do with that saying what could and not happen. For instance he said Luke and Jacen could not be killed, however two other characters could. Chewie being one, I don't want to say the other because last time I let out a spoiler that was a few years old people got mad. Anyways, on the other hand I remember someone saying that Lucas said he doesn't truly consider the EU to be canon even though he has approved alot of it. And then there are the earlier books that I don't know how much approval they recieved.

I am a fanboy who plays with dolls, and I am not ashamed.
