The Hobbit will only technically beat Avengers at TDKR because its just 1 story chopped up into 3 tiny pieces, so they get to charge us 3 times as much as either TDKR or Avengers just to finish the story once :lol

By that rational, we add up all three Nolan film box offices and all the Marvel Studio box offices too. Avengers still wins. :wink1:

I'm confused. I've never read The Hobbit, but I've seen enough copies in my lifetime to know its not a large book. So is each film going to be 45 minutes long.

The first Hobbit movie's runtime is 2 hours and 40 minutes. I think they're going to add stuff that wasn't in the actually story or was featured in the appendices to make it into a trilogy.

Almost 100,000 words, takes awhile to translate that all onto the screen.

3 scenarios:

1. General public hungry for more of Tolkien's fantasy, huge hit, billion dollars.

2. Just does good to ok, not great but certainly not terrible.

3. General public is burnt out after Potter and LOTR, they're content with the EE, no need for anymore of those pesky elves, movie flops hard!

Which will it be.

I can already tell you #3 is out. No way this movie flops. I see something in between 1-2 with it leaning more towards 1

Maybe on a technical level theres no way this flops, but on an expectational level if this thing doesn't clear 1 bil easy, its definitely not keeping pace with the LotR series at all. This movie is a juggernaut with a pedigree it should be smashing **** at the Box Office.

They could make an entire film of Gandalf, Bilbo and the dwarves eating, drinking, singing and telling stories in Bilbo's house. Just because the book is small doesn't mean the movies have to be.

Maybe they're just not going to leave **** out like they did/had to in the LotR trilogy. :dunno
