Says the Freaks with Tolkien avy/sigs. I don't think it'll beat Avengers, only because it's not really giving us anything new. I think they'll be great, there's no doubt about that, but it won't bump Avengers. Again, TDKR, maybe.

:lol

You don't fail to disappoint, i knew you'd mention the sigs!

All that shows is that 2 people are more fans of Tolkien than Marvel.

And The Hobbit is giving us a new story, new locations, new characters. Avengers gave us super-heroes who already have their own movies.

TDKR - some scenes are too rushed, film is edited too tightly to get it under 2hr 45min so they could play it at IMAX without an intermission. And Talia's death is the worst bit of acting in the entire trilogy.

BB - film is perfect until the last Act - too much cheese in Ra's/Batman dialogue at the end and the whole microwave emitter thing is a bit silly

TDK - Harvey's descent to madness is rushed. Could have done a ton more with the two face persona

I thought the microwave emitter was a hell of a lot more original than the cliched nuclear bomb in TDKR. :monkey1

Avengers gave us a team movie with characters from individual franchises who share the same "universe." Where has that been done before?

But you and Josh go ahead and keep pretending that a non-child friendly film about dwarves walking across rocks will somehow top Avengers at the box office. :lol

I loved LOTR and I'll no doubt love this, but wearing Tolkein underoos for a cause that's not even remotely realistic is silly in and of itself. :lol

The first Hobbit movie's runtime is 2 hours and 40 minutes. I think they're going to add stuff that wasn't in the actually story or was featured in the appendices to make it into a trilogy.

There is hardly any character development in the book, there will be in these movies.

The Lord of the Rings wasn't what I'd call child friendly either and all three films did quite well with ROTK made 1.1 billion dollars and was #2 for quite some time. So prices have gone up, this has 3D, and IMAX to help out. I believe the popularity is still there and people will see this lots. So why wouldn't it have a good chance?

We shall see how silly it is to make any claim.

ROTK was successful partially because it was the last of the trilogy and had accumulated a large following by the time it was released.

I don't think the Hobbit will do as well as the Avengers but the last installment in the trilogy most definitely have a shot.

Remove box office from the equation and LOTR EE trilogy is the only true epic masterpiece.

TDK changed things no doubt, but nothing touches LOTR.

Nothing.

My only issue with Tolkien is that he died too soon.:(

As for PJ, I hope he doesn't make too many changes to the Hobbit as he did with LOTR.

Frankly I thought the changes only improved the story. I read the books only about a year ago, and I have to say that the movies are far superior. Tolkien had some great ideas, but he had a lot of crappy ones too (Sauraman trying to take over the Shire at the end of RotK :lol ). PJ just cut out the fluff and improved on what was left. I expect he'll do the same thing here.

I felt all along the Hobbit could be 1 film. Its only a 300 and some odd page book. Its not that big. 3 films? Under anyone else and it would have just been a cash grab. I trust him enough after LotR to do what he feels is right with these, so I'm not too worried yet.
