I find this amusing as well.

Here is the thing: We don't have to bash Sideshow to express our dislike of some of their tactics, but to pretend that certain things are okay or just not happening because we like their products is silly. I see some doing the "just buy what you like" reply sometimes. Increased edition sizes increasing is a real issue that affects the hobby particularly when economies of scale applies to pricing (it should be going down....right?). The "population of earth Vs. the ratio of increased number of collectors" logic just doesn't work. I don't see your average person factoring a $400+ comic/movie statue around 3 or 4 times per year in their budget. The hobby grows within a certain nerdy community, but it rarely expands into the mainstream. Yeah, you can catch a glimpse of some of this stuff in an episode of Big Bang Theory, but your average person won't spend money on these things at these prices. Even if that was the case, I feel Sideshow has a greater responsibility to the hobby as the current market leader to protect the collectible aspect of the hobby. That's just me of course.

There are some very nice items that Sideshow is producing, but to call them collectibles sometimes seems a bit of a stretch given recent developments. They are in full profit maximization mode and edition sizes will fall where they will. Ultimately, edition size discussions are pointless for this very same reason.

I agree. This has to be the highest ES of any company and statue that is a high end collectible that has ever been done. I didn't order Wonder Woman because of it. Batman at 9500 ES, Supes at 7500, etc. I wanted to order WW but I just wish Sideshow had been more reasonable like 5000 or 6000 ES in total for both Ex ad Reg put together. Anything else imo is overkill. Of course I only speak for myself. Actually, I have been pretty quiet in my opinion on this ES aside from two other posts I made. Had I POd her, I would not have been happy but to each their own. Beautiful sculpt for those that can afford to buy up everything. I for one cannot, so have to pass on her and Catwoman since they are both being over-produced. At least my bank account will be happier.

Certainly your opinion, but I would put the Sosa sculpted Kotos up against anything Sideshow is doing. If your a size stickler you'll never see it, but they are seriously well done.

The Body sculpts/clothing sculpts I agree, again Koto's flaw to me is the facial sculpts. It's probably the size they work in, although the 1/10th and 1/6th Hulk facial sculpts were a huge step forward but The 1/10th Cap/Black Widow/Thor were a regression.

Most definitely. The Koto Magneto, Psylocke, Spidey, and Colossus in particular are fantastic pieces. If SSC can even come close to releasing a Mags as good as Koto's we would be very lucky. Sosa's work is incredible. It's a crying shame if scale snobs can't see just how magnificent Sosa's pieces are.

Well, nowadays we are not "collecting" much of anything. There is no hunt, no sense of urgency to rush and preorder something because these things are no longer super-limited. Collecting should take a bit of effort and when it comes to Sideshow it rarely does. Exclusives are still available for months because of the large edition sizes. No rush. You got weeks or months to place an order.

We can hardly call ourselves "collectors". All we do is go to a website, click a few times and sit and wait for something in about a year (give or take a few months). We are a bunch or guys with enough disposable income to indulge in a few hundred dollars worth of polystone per year and come here to discuss it.

Nothing wrong with that.

His sculpts are great but the koto paint applications, in my experience, are terrible.

I have both the Koto Spidey and Magneto and the paint job on both of them is top notch. That is not to say Koto hasn't had paint apps issues but SSC is not immune to those issues either. People say the paint apps on the Koto Psylocke aren't up to snuff but I'd take the paint apps on that piece over the SSC Psylocke PF any day of the week. Koto has come a long way in the paint app department. That said, they didn't help their cause with their latest Hulk release.

Who said it was meant to be hard?

I could sit here picking my nose and start a bogey collection.

Again, your own personal definition of collector isn't the the one most people use.

Well I was only off by about a month when I said yesterday it would be about a month before we got the ES...But I was right that they are not leaving any money on the table! Holy Cow!

The only thing I wonder about, at around a 10k+ production run, these become a mass produced item. Not sure how justifiable the pricing is.

I love SS, I love this WW, Already sent in my NRD and have no regrets...but I wonder what the heck they are doing sometimes.

I don't know...the higher ESs aren't great but it hasn't stopped me from buying at all. Space and the rising prices have but now I just pick what I really want which is how it should be anyway. To me, I am the only guy in my close friends and family that collects SSC statues. I work as an artist in the gaming industry so I thought more people would share my addiction but most people who collect tend to stick with smaller items. But my friends do love my collection when they come over and that makes me feel good. Granted, I collect for me and not them but I guess my point is the high ES hasn't affected me at all. It's not like all of my friends have the same statues I do and therefore, they don't impress anyone or make me feel special. They still do make me feel like I own cool stuff that they don't. Again, I have to iterate, that is not why I collect in the first place. It is just a point I am making about ES. Wonder Woman is an epic statue and I will be ecstatic to be 1/3500 who own her. Worldwide, that is not that many guys. I am concerned about the quickly rising prices a lot more...$440 for the new Thor. He is ginormous so I guess it's not that outragueous. I guess catwoman at $400 is prob more outrageous but I POed her too :lol:lol
