Logan needs a proper stand alone film, not the watered down stuff we've gotten so far.

I see that possibly happening with the eventual recast.

The Wolverine was an okay attempt, but far from amazing. Old Man Logan is probably W3, but it needs to be R rated. But fat chance on that.

I wouldn’t expect a pure badass Logan in W3 considering it takes place after DOFP in present time.

I’m excited to see whoever they cast next to play Wolverine, but I highly doubt whoever they get will give as good a performance as Jackman in the good X-Men films.

As good as Jackman, or as influential? Jackman is a good Wolverine, but I've come to find him as too much of a nice guy and not the hot headed hairy runt he is in the comics. I love Hugh as Logan, don't get me wrong.

I just hope whoever takes over is more in tune with the look and attitude of the source material... and is an unknown.

The movies for me are like a separate universe from the 616 and Ultimate universes, i never care much about sticking to source material. As long as the movie is good, and Jackman is giving a great performance like he usually does, then I won’t care how different he is from the comics. The MCU usually tries to keep their characters very faithful to the comics, but I find that usually gets in the way of their movies being good. A lot of things from the comics just doesn’t translate well to live action. Jackman’s portrayal of the character is a lot more relatable and nuanced than the comic book version, if they kept him the same as the comics he might not be as compelling in my opinion.

Yeah, you might have a point. I just wish Hugh was at least close to his personality as he was in X1, but the series is nearly 20 years old and having him the same guy for so long without any internal growth would be unnatural. I don't think he became the guy he is now until after the conclusion in X2, since he put his past behind him for good.

Knowing how studios are, they're going to want another Hugh like Wolverine again for the replacement, so I don't see his personality and appearance changing much at all with the new actor. I don't necessarily know if that's a good or a bad thing.

That's the conundrum for me too. I really like Hugh. I really like Hugh as Wolverine. Maybe he's not straight off the page but he brought so much personality to that character. He made Wolvie likable to me in a different way.

But part of me still goes: that's not Wolverine. Especially after X2

That's exactly it, he wen from a loner to a guy with friends so it changed his demeanour

And that's fine. I'm really just unsure what I'd want exactly. Hugh changed everyone's perception of the character, so at this point it almost feels unnatural to do a completely different take on it.

I guess if he was a nice guy, who was more hot headed that might work. We still have yet to get a true berserker rage. I'd want the white eyed look too, but it's unrealistic in the context of the films.

I've always felt thus far that Marvel has done a great job casting their characters, so my dream is that the wolverine live action license teams up with them in some way so that they can cast the next Logan. I realize with it being owned by Fox this will never happen, but still. I never cared for Hugh's interpretation of Wolvervine. Too tall, not hairy enough, not bulky enough, and certainly not angry enough. Having said that, he may be a great old man logan. Though I dont know how you can do that movie and not have Hawkeye, Hulk, Red Skull, etc in it.

Yeah, he looks like he starves himself...

You expect too much from him. Not every Hollywood actor worth damn can get 24 inch pythons overnight for a role. I think he's done plenty justice for Logan physically.

Yeah, I don't mind that one & bought it as well.

But I actually don't want to see more Wolvie solo films. He's better served being a team member in the X-Men, and not the sole focus of attention as he has been. Make him just one among the group, but make him a vicious bad-ass with a bad attitude.
I'd be down with that too.

Marvel have altered the characters too. Stark wasn't that big of a smartass in the comics, StarLord was basically just Pratt and more like Nova than StarLord. Drax never had his unable-to-understand-metaphors thing

I must be the only one who likes the bone claws; I always felt they captured the animal side of the character better than the metal claws. I was sorely tempted to pick up the figure from The Wolverine because of those bone claws (plus the snazzy black suit), and this is from someone who's hated the character of Wolverine for years in the comics, cartoons, and movies (I like Hugh Jackman's portrayal, just not that he's always front and center in the X-films).

I wasn't crazy about the bone-claw ret-con in the comics, but I liked how Joe Madurera (sp?) drew them - big and chunky. The movie bone claws look like something from a "Real ER Stories" that would make me dry heave.

EDIT: looking at that screen grab above, they look better than I remember. Maybe it was the Origins bone claws that grossed be me out.

The bone claws are retarded. For one, they are all jagged. There are no bones in our body that are jagged like that. They should be sleek like cat claws..

And they are not present in the x-ray scans from X1. Those clearly show a mechanical ejection device in his forearms.

And Jackman looks the part. Just needs an R rated script to appease the fanboys.

They should just be bone colored spikes, but in the films and even in the comics they were always "lumpy." They looked better in DOFP at least.

It would make more sense for the Adamantium versions since they look clean and straight, and it seems like they didn't do anything but coat them in it... but never filed them straight. :dunno

I don't like the idea of Wolverine being completely clawless, so in a way I'm glad they retconned that... but still, the bone claws are ugly.

I guess originally they were spring operated.
