X2 is The Dark Knight of the FoX-Men films, or Marvel films for that matter. It's scary how underrated that movie is, and I see the argument going on in other threads about action, X2 action is better than TWS, CW, MOS, and BvS combined.

My ranking for the X films would be X2 >DOFP>First Class>>>X1>Deadpool>>>>The Wolverine>>>X3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>X-Men Origins

Agree 100 percent, I get the wire work but it's a fantasy movie. It's not about the combat or the back and forth it's about the characters and the powers and the set pieces and the intrigue. Lady desthstrikes demise is a fist pumping defeat that hardly any of these mcu movies ever have. I could go on and on. The xmen jet vs the fighter pilots, golden. Pyro throwing fire balls at cars looks incredibly real and visceral and violent. Imma stop there because now I just want to watch it

My god I almost forgot the mansion scene haha. I mean come on they must have put I real ice wall in there in that one scene cause it looked pretty real to me. That in an mcu movie would be 100% cgi

X2 has a nice opening sequence with Nightcrawler, but I didn't think any of the other action sequences were great.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for, to me the mansion sequence was amazing and the best action scene in the movie because of Jackman's acting. That scene is one of the most violent scenes in a superhero movie and action really sells the animalistic side of Wolverine in that scene. It was one of the few times where he was fast, angry, brutal, and merciless.

The Magneto prison sequence is just incredible, the whole concept of Mystique injecting the guard with Iron, leading to Mag ripping the Iron out of his body, and with that tiny bit of iron he is able to kill all the guards and float away on his little iron board :lol

Not all action is eye candy, or huge CGI brawls for me, but the concept, acting and originality is just as important and stand out for me.

:lol :lol :lol

It is though! X2 has some extremely awesome conceptual yet subtle action scene. To me, there isn't a scene in any of the MCU or DCEU that's as unique as Magneto's prison escape in X2, the action in that scene goes beyond that one scene to make it work, then the iconic Nightcrawler scene, and the attack on the X mansion. Those 3 scenes top anything I've scene from the latest Marvel/DC flicks. The acting, cinematography and originality were all a notch about most superhero films out there today.

Spiderman vs Doc Ock is the king of just straight up CGI superhero action though. Nothing in CW, TWS, AOU, BvS, MOS come close to that scene.

Glad someone agrees with me. They tell story through the action, and it's usually very clever and subtle. It doesn't always have to be a huge ever lasting action scene

That Nightcrawler scene still rivals anything we've seen in comic films. Love it.

Man what I wouldn't do for an X3 Trask movie poster.
Days of Future Past version, please:

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell no :lol

In fact, I think the only action sequence in the Fox-Men franchise that isn't hindered by that terrible terrible outdated wire-work is Wolverine's introduction in the cage.

QuickSilver is also fantastic, it's what a speedster show move like.

I think Deadpool has better action than Singer's movies, despite being utterly inferior.

In fact, it's a testament to the Singerverse stories that I don't mind sitting through bad action and even worse designs because that's how good the plots are.

What bad wire work was there in the X2 Magneto prison escape? And there was only one bad part of the mansion invasion and that's when Wolverine jumps from out of nowhere and tosses the soldiers, that looked horrible. But Wolverine Slaughtering the soldiers was better than anything in the MCU and DCEU.

Nightcrawler sequence was great.

Yes, I forgot, those ones were fantastic, and the wirework isn't bad in that one, Lady Deadstrike vs Wolverie? Eeeeesh.

Also, Magneto vs Rockets in the Cuban Misile Crisis was fantastic.

Oh, and the stadium thing.

You know what? I take it back, I'd put The Singerverse above the rest of the MCU but still behind CW and TWS, I think from that point and above it's just another league.

I really don't want to act like an elitist snob or anything but yea, X2 action is more subtle, original, and well though out. Not every action scene needs huge over the top action the requires loads of CGI, it really takes away from the action for me unless the CGI action is done right like Spiderman 2 was.

Gasper I'm telling you man, I think you need to go back and watch X2. I agree with you on Lady Deathstrike vs Wolverine though, but that scene needed to be neutered required a lot of camera tricks to keep a PG13 rating, every other action scene was incredible.

It's not the camera tricks, they open up with a stupid ass spin in mid air :lol it's terrible.

I absolutely agree on how good X2 is, but the action is just outdated at best, it still manages to keep up with more modern action, but still lags behind a bit imo.

I actually watch action sequences a lot on youtube, when I just got my coffee and I'm pretty hyped up about everything :lol

That stupid move is kind of a popular move from Lady Deathstrike but yea, I agree with you, that scene is pretty dated, but to be honest, the spinning cgi round house kick in Civil War by Black Panther looked worse.

What's wrong with the Mansion invasion scene? The cinematography acting, brutality, everything was perfect, hell, Colossus little cameo was more badass than anything he did in Deadpool in my opinion.

I love the lady deathstrike fight. That was gnarly, bloody as all hell. Seen it a million times and don't hate the wire work. 1000 times better than them being in cgi.

I like the scene but I'm a bit mixed on it, some of it is very good and brutal, and then some of it goes in a bit of a over the top cheesy direction. It was my least favorite action scene of the movie and I still thought it was solid.

Yeah but I think it could be better done, I agree with BP's kick though, however, there's one spin BP gives in the rooftop against Bucky, that looks pretty cool.

There's nothing wrong with the mansion invasion, it was a good scene, but like I said TWS, CW, BvS and MoS are just another level imo.

I also think Colossus was better in DP, all around.

I agree that I'm long overdue for another Fox Men marathon.

Yeah I'm sure I could see the flaws. But I love the way the kept her a secret, and then bam she's a wolverine clone then bam she can heal too, then bam gets one the of the best deaths in any comic book movie. Like I said it's more then the choreography that makes action scenes memorable. Sorry for typing in rambling fashion

And the music ! I almost forgot, really highlights exactly what I'm talking about. I mean is there anybody in the world that will say something like civil war had memorable music ?

Woops I just quoted myself

Colossus was definitely better In Deadpool all around, but everything he did action was just generic cgi fighting to me. X2 scene was much cooler even though he's just standing there.

When you watch the Magneto prison escape, and viewing that scene within the context of the story, its brilliant and well throughout. That to me is more impressive than Something like Superman vs Zod which is really nothing more than eye candy. What separates that scene from the transformers action? They're both just a bunch of cartoons fighting in my opinion. That's not me hating on CGI, like I said, I believe Spiderman 2, or T2 is well throughout action scenes done with CGI. Both of those movies have some of the best action scenes I have ever seen.

See, I don't know why they're on another level? I mean DieHard is one of the greatest action movies ever, and to me, while it doesn't have over the top action, I prefer its action because it has personality, it's not just computer generated characters punching each other.

Definitely :lol

You just actually made me appreciate that scene even more now :lol

I don't get the whole dated argument. All movies with action sequences or heavy special effects become dated at some point...all of them. The Matrix is dated as hell, but the action was innovative and it influenced many Hollywood films, and yet despite the dated action the film and those sequences are still awesome.
