You guys who are baffled by Wolverine's look in the film HAVE read the comics before, right?

The film toned down the headgear a bit,

Exactly, the visor is what makes the headgear look cool and it was missing completely. That being said I didn't hate the look in the movie (it was just okay though) but it was still fun to play along with jye. :D

Wolverine in the MCU would be as neutered as he was in the Rothman-era FOX (Origins).

The current FOX regime is open to an R-rating for CBMs - something Disney publicly denounced. The Russos would revel with that kind of creative freedom.

Not necessarily. Daredevil and Punisher proves that the MCU can make certain characters as "edgy" as they need to be.

I'll take the neutered TWS/CW battles over the edgy R rated Deadpool any day of the week.

Those movies proved you don't need " muh R" and "muh Edgy" to create incredible action scenes, you just need imagination which the Russo's have now proved twice that they have plenty of.

Quicksilver scene was great, but a little too long.

I actually did love the QS scene, partly because it really snuck up on me. When everything froze outside the mansion I thought that Xavier did that or something, and then the music starts, he shows up, and I was laughing out loud at the close-ups of Beast and the French Bulldog as he was rushing them to safety.

I rate it a 6.5/10.

I'd put it in the middle-bottom of the X-Men movie pack
X-Men 2
X-Men First Class
X-Men DoFP
X-Men Apocalypse
X-Men
X-Men 3

For me its:

X2: X-MEN UNITED (2003) 10/10
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (2014) 10/10
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (2011) 10/10
DEADPOOL (2016) 10/10
X-MEN (2000) 9/10
THE WOLVERINE (2013) 8.5/10
X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (2006) 8.5/10
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (2016) 8/10
X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (2009) 6/10

I wish he had his comics head gear, instead they gave him a go pro camera hat.

Yep, there was nothing in Civil War particularly that made me think "oh they're shooting it this way to avoid an R rating." Nope, just the right amount of brutality and intensity to the action. To just add more buckets of blood for the sake of being edgy would have just been juvenile (as we saw in DP.)

That's one nice thing about having a movie's action centered on punching, kicking, and explosions. The MPAA lets you get away with a LOT of hardcore thrashing if its fist to fist. I did feel that the blood in TWS was a bit lacking due to the bullet-centric nature of that film. They still made it awesome though.

Yeah, Quicksilver is definitely the highlight of both this film and DOFP.

And I thought it was funny that Apocalypse debilitates him the same exact way Superman did to the mind-controlled Flash in Justice League vs Teen Titans. (Leg snap! ouch)

Though from the leg cast he was wearing later I assume Quicksilver doesn't have super-speed healing like the Flash. :lol

I would SO love a Wolverine solo Netflix series about his time in Madripoor.

Yeah, not just the typical fish out of water story we got with The Wolverine film. Did he spent years there? Nope. Did he learn Japanese? Nope. Did he learn martial arts? Nope. Did the culture have some sort of impact on his character? Nope. Same old "Wolverine."

CW didn't need an R rating because the characters that could easily kill people were holding back most of the time. However, Wolverine, like DP, is the type of character that seriously hurts and kills people, and that amount of violence requires blood. There's nothing juvenile about the blood and the violence in DP either, except for the character's sense of humor but he is a juvenile character, but the action itself needed the blood because you can't edit that much violence with cutting away or not showing any blood without it being noticeable. It'd be like editing the violence out of Rambo 4. That would look silly. Look at TDK, there are so many neutered scenes because they couldn't show any blood, and some of the scenes work, but at some point it becomes very noticeable.

Yes, both films were quite ridiculous in that regard. I remember when Bane takes the Stock Exchange trading floor and the thugs walk in and just unload an assault rifle into a guy with like a white dress shirt on. He just flails his arms and dances like a bug on a hot sidewalk before falling backward, not a single drop of blood on his shirt from being shot 11 times.

I don't know if that is just Singer's taste, but I seen better Cosplay costumes. Seriously looks like the just cutted up whatever extra fabric they had laying around and glued it together. The best X-Men movie outfits has been from First Class so far.

Having his eyes exposed and being used made him less of a bad ass for me.

Had they covered his eyes with a full upper helmet it would've made him a serious lethal bad ass who is only using his sense of smell and touch to go after all the guards.

They made it a point to have him sniffing while locked up they should've just continued down that path.

I get why they didn't do it, because a cylon like mask would've looked to much like Cyclop's visor.

Agreed, and they still could have given Jackman face time when Jean removes the helmet right before he runs off into the snow like a lobotomized mental patient.

Yeah, but TDK is even worse because from the very start they had guys killing each other, and they don't show any injuries or they cut away...as soon as the film starts. Even the scene with the guy getting hit by the school bus looked terrible because the bus wasn't even close to touching him. The worst part is Joker, he's a slasher, dude walks around with a knife telling stories and cutting people, yet they never show anything :lol There should be an R rated director's cut (no pun intended).
