Re: XM Dr. Strange

Again, you can feel that way and we'll disagree. People here routinely crapped on products by anyone not named Sideshow long before XM and it was just another day in the neighborhood. Now that the shoe is on the other foot the rules need to be changed? Hilarious.

I feel like you missed the title of this forum. Passionate SS fans on the Sideshow freaks board, who'd a thunk it?

As a fan of this character, and since there is basically NO representation of Dr. Strange around, I was expecting a lot more. The WIP looked alot better than this. I can't say that I would be interested in it, looking like it does, with anyones brand label on the base. But this is XM, so it is bound to change. Maybe. Not sure how them having to focus on their target market will effect the look of their products going forward, since tastes have a way of changing in different parts of the world.

Nowhere in my quoted post did I state I was surprised this forum has passionate SS fans, you thought wrong.

I don't think we disagree with what their prices are pepez and why. There are many reasons why. But you still can't compare a SS price to XM. There is no comparison. for most people you can for the most part nowadays start to compare XM with custom sculpts. I have 3 custom sculpts on order and they will come to the same price as the 3 xm ones I am getting. I only drew this comparison just so that hopefully XM will realise they have competition too and others can do the same thing that they have done. Which is to bring in an amazing product that people want and have those people buying it. Hopefully they are getting new face sculptors or something to fix the problem I was raising.

I agree. It's wrong to compare XM and SS as there is no comparison. :) I hope XM reads your posting fix the HS so this could be the ultimate Dr Strange statue.

No? You often seem suprised that people on this forum like SS products. I would think if you wanted impartiality, this would not be the place to look.

I think any of the perceived lack of detail in the face is due to not having a good picture, or I at least hope so. Any extra realism attributed to the original wip looks due to the texturing and shadowing details that are lost in the picture of the painted statue. It looks like a monotone fleshy face, but I don't expect quality up-close images to have the same appearance.

You're very confused.

I don't seek impartiality, I seek product info and discussion regardless of company. If the homers want to sling mud, there's endless ammunition to sling back their way.

I fight the urge everyday to post on every single lightweight paper mache PVC shipping cost saving fiberglass but its still polystone SS product thread.

Instead I try to post on products I actually have a genuine interest and ability to purchase.

:goodpost: I must spread some reputation before giving you another Jolly Ranchero.

I think you are the one confused.

Homers...This is the SS Freaks board...

Sort of my point. But carry on the crusade.

I agree all companies have hits and misses. But just like if someone starts seeing QC issues with a company regularly, they will start talking about it more and more. XM face sculpts are a common thing talked about in forums and it only comes up because people notice it. If it was a once off in a while, then fair enough, but it does not seem to be the case. I think we need to stop referring to Magneto as the standard. I hear that comment all the time, but no one seems to mention others. Magneto was a while ago now and so I would say that if they did it on him back then, why can't they do it on others now? Some other sculpts vary from ok-good, but I can't think of a stunning face sculpt since then.

With shipping costs now you definitely can get customs for the same price as a XM product, particularly those living in the US. It's only those that live within the Asian countries that get the cheaper price for XM. Although a $950 SGD Black Bolt IS NOT the same price as a $470 Spider-Man. Not quite sure how you came up with that price, saying it was near the price of a SS piece? I wouldn't call $300 difference (after conversion) a close comparison.

I'm not sure why you mentioned the aftermarket price of the statues, as that was never anything I talked about? But yes I agree people need to start looking at the other amazing companies around as well. There is so much out there now. It's a great time to be a collector!!

I think that you have to keep in mind that the average XM piece ranges from $500-$600 USD prior to shipping costs. BlackBolt was literally a situation where the fans demanded that the piece be more expensive even though XM tried to keep the cost down. I won't say that XM's products aren't pricey, but I the end they have a limited ES and do have to make their money back for the license. As for the headsculpts....

I think that one of the biggest complaints that comes XMs ways is that the headsculpts tend to be a little underdetailed on some of their pieces and they tend to look like 1/4 Bowen statues. Now some of that could easily be the paint apps applied, and that could be a conscious choice on XMs part. The thing is when I look at the WIP prints they look more detailed then they eventually do when painted... so again I have to think there is a choice being made. With all that being said I doubt this one is in the final paint stage yet so it is hard to judge where they are going with this JUST yet.
