I don't think so. The T-800 didn't even want to go near Sarah Connor. He saw rescuing Sarah as a serious mission-risk. So it seems future John had not programmed any objective to also protect Sarah.

It makes more sense for him to state that he has been ordered to protect her and that she must go with him immediately. But, y'know, not cool enough. And Cameron wanted that irony, I guess, of The Terminator saying Kyle Reese's line to Sarah - offering protection instead of life termination ''The T-1000's highest probability of success now will be to copy Sarah Connor and wait for you to make contact with her''

Well be able to take any of our favorite dead actors....say John Belushi for example, and put them into any scene we want, any setting...the imagination is the only limit. We could have Belushi waking up in a universe like the "Malkovich Malkovich" scene and it'll all look flawlessly real to the eye.
The true demise of the Hollywood studio system is right around the corner. Everyone on earth is essentially going to have a holodeck in the form of their PC. Why would you ever leave it?

Ok Alvarez said that “The Line” was HIS idea and admits that he did it to get the same audience reaction that Aliens got and was super relieved when he got it during the test screenings.

That’s what made him feel comfortable with NOT BEING ORIGINAL and coming up with HIS OWN iconic line!
He could still be lying and it was a studio mandate.
But if it was him how gross that he wanted to use it for the exact same effect from Aliens, like WTF.

I’m in no way saying that Alvarez is not a gifted filmmaker.
The guy firmly believes in real filmmaking with it not just being a means to an end.
What he means by that is that he despises the method of shooting everything out of order in green screen and the actors just know their lines which creates a losing foundation right from the start for the actors being removed from feeling the story and just going thru the motions.
He said it defeats the whole purpose.
He prefers shooting chronologically with in camera effects.
In other words he’s a latino Nolan lol
This is why it hurts more that he got lazy and went straight for that line so it’s highly possible that even though he’s accepting blame it was still a studio mandate.

I honestly didn't make out the first part of what he even said over the roar of the pulse rifle. Then when his magazine empties and he looks at the dead xeno and says ***** I was all "oh that's what he was saying." But he delivers it so differently and with pretty much two separate statements so it was more of a retrospect realization for me that was clearly a callback, but not just a repeat of the line like your example in Terminator or "I have a bad feeling about this" or whatever else.
I don't recall my audience laughing or reacting, the moment just kind of came and went.
The more I think about this movie the more it resonates. Really fantastic.

Dude OMG holy crap go look at my photo again I can’t even type right now lol
It was actually just that one time, I love that it's become a running gag......running....I had to do a lot of that on that fateful day in the rain...to still arrive some 20 minutes late for my showing of Jurassic World, only front seats remained available, me on the extreme left, soaked to the skin and neck twisted for an hour and a half....I'll never go to the movies again

I'd say it's respectful and the director had a real love for the original material - unlike blatant ripoffs because a showrunner has no original ideas and/or wants to send messages -
but that's the thing; even if respectful when does it cross the line into rehash? For me it did. On the way out some company wanted us to rate the film. I gave it a B - based on the lavish sets, lots of details, reasonable acting, some fresh ideas, some good use of old ideas....but then there's plenty of rehash.
Wish I hadn't paid full price, but whatever.
The end tho clearly left the door open for more films, which is fine; IMO it's reasonable since the film sets up early on that it will take 9 years to get where they are going, and sort of don't know what will be there, but there's the dream of "seeing a sun" so -
the door is open for something actually nice happening. Or not. I appreciate a narrative that leads from point A to B,
I thought the Xeno baby monster looking like the Covenant/alien Creators/Prometheus heads - tho skinny blah blah - was dumb. There's no reason why blended DNA with a human female would end up looking like that. It was that kind of thing that made the film fall off for me. And the re-use of Ash was a big fail.
