Have you seen some of the characters that have been put on screen in the past 20-30 years? Cgi and practical, there hasn't really been anything that couldn't be done. Take a look at Tim Curry as Darkness in a cult favorite of mine Legend, some of the best practical makeup effects of the time. They took a normal dude and made him look like a badass version of the devil, it's totally believable because they did it right and made it work. A rhino man could have been done fine had they wanted it to work, that's really all I'm getting at
I don't think anyone is doubting that they can do organic rhino from a technical standpoint. It would just look really stupid. That's the whole point
