^ That IS amazing. Wow.

And that is how fantastic rooted hair can look when it's done right.

This isn't a character I would pay that kind of money for - that size and cost = truly stand alone, absolute favorite (like top 3 ever kinda favorite) characters for me. They've got another "actor likeness" doll coming soon, apparently going to be shown at a convention next weekend. I'm curious to know what it will be.

Yeah, exactly - whilst I'm very much a Dr Strange fan I'm not sure I like any of the MCU-versions of the characters quite that much. (But the tailoring, and fullset outfit itself is completely and utterly gorgeous) ...Now if they somehow got the license for Bowie...

Oh there's another one coming? Eesh I'll keep an eye out to see what it is - but given their previous licensed releases have all been Anime properties I've honestly got no clue if it'll be another Marvel licensed piece or something else entirely. Their acquisition of the Marvel license was almost completely out of the leftfield.

He looks very pale and malnourished in those pictures....

As to the skintone... Meh, it's trying to appeal to fans of a different aesthetic to the one in this hobby - of course there's going to be differences. The side of this hobby that this thing is targeting has only really just started on detailed skintones with pores and other flaws. The slight sallowness is no worse than the permatan we've got over here.

Regarding the physique - I'm not 100% sure I agree there. If anything I've always thought the Hot Toys figure was a wee-bit too bulky for the good doctor.

Ah, found the body in question - muscular yes, but long and lean with it rather than pumped up on steroids as most action figures in our side of this hobby tend to be.

Wow...$2400

Wow...$2400

Yes... :faq As already stated you could buy Hulkbuster several times over for the price of this guy... But given that it's 80cm tall, they've developed an entirely new body for it, and each figure is going to be painted/haired/tailored by the individuals who carried out the work on the prototype I'm not sure what your point is. They're clearly targeting a different audience to us.

Urgh, you know I was just trying to point out something interesting that's popped up in the Marvel Licensing ring.

I'm not here to defend this thing from the usual gamut of sarcasm and one-upmanship that this place specialises in. I know it's not going to appeal to most people on here - but I thought people would find the thing interesting whilst waiting for the Hot Toys figure to arrive.

That sculpt is not that great for the price and scale. But beyond that the hands are kinda creepy. he needs some gloves

Hah! Yeah agree about the softness of the sculpt. The blank head is strangely lacking considering how much space they had to work with, but that seems to be the thing with that side of the hobby, they go for idealised versions of the person over accuracy nine times out of ten. As to the hands - though they are sorta awesome in an Iron Man gauntlet kinda way, I do wish there was a better solution to the poseability question - they're actually some of the better ones I've seen at that scale, but I agree that they look ...wrong when they aren't purposefully mechanical.

Bowie....that would just be absolutely awesome....

There is according to the main page. Strange is at the top but if you click on the third circle just below the Strange pic it says second "actor likeness doll" is coming. If you click on the link for the Seoul comic con under "Notice" on the righthand side of the front page, it says the doll will be shown there. They refer to it as "H????"

Yeah, when I looked at their other work, I found Strange to be out of left field, too. I'm super curious if it's going to be another Marvel character/actor, or something else entirely!

I think this piece is utterly gorgeous myself. I think the likeness is on point, the rooted hair rocks, and the outfit is outstanding. It's not the same as a 1/6th action figure or designed to be the way an HT figure is, but man....dreaming of a few of my favorite characters in that scale with that level of quality? :thud:

I can understand not wanting a bunch of sculpted hands in that scale, they're almost life size. Maybe they could use some flesh colored latex gloves :lol

Haha! I'm really glad someone on here likes him, I've got to admit the price-point is the main sticking point for me - if the bill wasn't quite so hefty I suspect this wouldn't be a case of tempted and trying to point out flaws to myself, as "already ordered!!" and suffering from buyer's remorse as I realise I have absolutely nowhere to put him.

...But given that IOS is at the upper-end pricepoint-wise of the companies that specialise in this sort of thing I think I'm safe.

(I'll quietly point you towards the term bjd, the forum DenofAngels, and slowly back away whilst whispering the company name Dollshe... They can be absolutely gorgeous and are about as stunning in person as you'd imagine, and there are people that make likenesses of real people in the same way there are custom-runs on here. But the aesthetic is approaching realism from almost the exact opposite direction as that in the action figure end of this hobby, given that these things all started off by aping the Anime aesthetic. Though from where I stand the two halves of this hobby are slowly beginning to meet in the middle.)

I can understand not wanting a bunch of sculpted hands in that scale, they're almost life size. Maybe they could use some flesh colored latex gloves :lol

Hah! Gods I think that would be even more sinister somehow.

Thanks for the suggestions! I love my HT figures, but I also appreciate other styles of figures and dolls - I have some Disney dolls I love very much, for example. I've seen some fantastic custom work done from Tonner dolls. And I just love seeing something that's so well done, eye catching, and in that scale.

From the direction they're coming in with their craft, I think the Cumberbatch likeness is superb.

The price point and character are sticking points for me, because while I love Cumberbatch as Strange, I'm not a big enough fan to spend that kind of money on him.

Now, if they were to continue with the Marvel trend and revealed a Thor 1 Loki? Oh, the temptation.... :thud: :lol

Haha! I completely agree about appreciating several styles of figure. (PM sent so we don't completely clog up this thread.)

My last flex pay got pushed back from 8/20 to 8/25. I guessed he would be shipping the last week of August and looks like I'm right. Can't wait.

Mines 5th September [emoji22] I ordered day one too

Sent from a single point in space and time

Mine was also pushed to 8/25. I need more display room or I need to start downsizing some collection.

Just ordered this guy. Just had that feeling that this would be one of the figures I would possibly regret not buying once it sells out. Great looking figure, looking forward to it.

Getting impatient given how awesome the photos showing up of this guy are. (Especially since I'll likely be getting mine even later than most of you guys given I'm in the UK) Hah! I've got to admit I was semi-planning on displaying my guy with the cloak hovering nearby - glad to see it works as a separate piece.

Urgh, in the meantime the giant licensed 1/3 scale Doctor Strange from that other company has opened it's PO. With new highly tempting photos. :horror If I had that kind of cash to drop on 1 item I'd be sorely tempted - it looks ridiculously amazing outfit-wise - however for that kind of cash I could pick up Hulkbuster several times over, so I'm not going to to even contemplate it. (Let alone the where-the-hell-would-I-put-it issue!)

Some of their vampire sculpts are stunning, shame none of them come actually painted.
