You make a couple valid points but nrd still sucks for a couple reasons. One issue is the long delays that are very common. If the stated release date is not met, then the customer should be able to back out with all their cash. Another problem is that sometimes the finished product has flaws or in some cases simply doesn't look like the prototype. Should the customer be stuck with a bum product? I understand that the fickle nature of people in general has probably brought on nrd, but I still hate it.
Your beef would be with the product manufacturer (Hot Toys) at that point, not the retailer (SSC). It's on the customer to research the product before committing to a preorder. If you want to wait it out to see the finished product then that's your prerogative, but don't be upset if you've missed your chance to preorder by then.

With SSC, If the product is delayed you can get your NRD back, i have done it. Also if you do not like the product you can return within 30 days for full refund.

Good to know, I was unaware. While I have never returned a figure, I have had a couple defective parts which were replaced with little hassle. My experience with their customer service has been positive. I guess the takeaway is to be sure that you want the stuff that has nrd attached before you order.

How can you research a product that hasn't been produced?

Think real hard before you prematurely jump on a PO you may not he sure about and problem solved...some of yall need to grow up ironically speaking on a forum full of dudes who collect dolls (myself included) lol

Hey now... :lol

That's heresy around these parts!

How can you research a product that hasn't been produced?
Pre-release information, early impressions, the manufacturer's history with other products. There are numerous ways to make an informed decision before committing to a preorder. If not enough information is available, then feel free to not preorder, that's your call, but why should a retailer be stuck with potentially unsalable merchandise because of a customer's indecision?

This is the 3rd figure I have ordered from SS (others being Python and Mark III) all of which had an NRD. I will be honest I regretted the PO for the Mark III for about a day or so when the 43 went up for PO but once I committed to buy the remorse and regret went away as they will both be amazing additions to my collection.

Like others have said only pay a deposit if you are sure... yes these are long term PO's so even thr most comminted may waver when waiting a year but that's the chance you take when you are after the exclusive or more limited items.

This is why the only remaining figures I will likely pick up on NRD from who ever offers the best deal will be Cap and Ultron as I dont expect Hakweye or Widow (on the fence with the last one of that pair) to vanish as quickly.

The last time he was up for PO that is what a lot of us said and he vanished pretty quickly because HT did not make as many as the rest (why he was going for crazy prices on Evilbay). They might make more this time or make less :dunno

Cheers I will keep that in mind, looks like he will be on my definite pre orders along with Cap and a version of Ultron!

Well given that hot toys doesn't give a firm date, and sideshow has no control over that as they are a store, not the manufacturer...but as said by another, if the estimated (and there's the key word, estimated) shipping date is missed sideshow generally refunds the NRD. The same issues with the product being not what you want. That's not something sideshow controls. And the proto shown states it can change and is not final.

If you don't like the NRD then wait till the figures released. If you can't afford 10% then you probably in the wrong hobby. It's a perk provided by sideshow. They very well could require full payment. Sideshow bends over backward for fans. Flex payments. Preorders. Actual customer service that's not just available, but great.

Exactly.

Yeah not many online shops have flex payments..... or are as good as Sideshow is :woo

As I said in a previous post my experience with SS customer service has been positive. I just don't feel that a customer should be stuck going through with an order if the finished product is radically different than the prototype. I am fairly new to this hobby and its very casual to me. While I'm not a rich guy I have a great job and can afford this stuff so NRD won't stop me from buying something I want, I just don't like it for the aforementioned reasons. I put up with a lot of things that I hate as a means to an end. Doesn't mean I have to like it. And we don't have to agree on this topic. Hope you and everyone else here has a Merry Christmas. And I hope this figure turns out great because I preordered it with NRD

NDRs cut down on speculators and impulse buying.

If it were me, I would require full payment upfront and only offer you a refund if your item sold to a different person.

The problem with that is people who want to cancel but dont because of the NRD might then just scalp it since they dont want it and can make a profit. I dont really know what a good solution would be honestly.

Not everyone, ive noticed alot of people who dont want it by the time they receive it will put it up here or elsewhere for the cost to them plus postage. Ends up more than original retail but less than scalpers meaning everyone is happy.
