SSC are adding NRD's to some figures from $224. Cap seems to be the only one I can find from HT, but they added them to SSC Indy and X-Wing Luke.

Maybe they had too many cancellations with the Strike Cap and got left with a tonne of stock? I think they'll have an NRD for Thor as well. They still have the Dark World version left in stock, so they might not want to order too many of him again.

Perhaps there's another Cap figure coming out and they don't want everyone cancelling this version for the next? Lol

Maybe loads of people have ordered, cancelled, ordered, etc.
They are just covering themselves against the more fickle people cancelling at the last minute.

Yep, I think with the price of figures now, even to distributors, the old business model is becoming increasingly difficult to operate, if everyone pre-orders everything, then makes up their minds later what they are actually going to buy, cancelling many pre-orders in the process. Particularly with the avalanche of figure announcements recently, it is probably making sales forecasting extemely difficult.. I tend to only pre-order what I am definitely going to buy, unless something goes horribly wrong with the manufacturing, for example HT's ED-209.

I also recently received an email from a retailer in Europe, indicating fluctuating exchange rates are causing additional challenges for retailers, because of the very long lead times between announcements and product shipping.. which is turning pre-order pricing into a form of Russian Roulette, for retailers.

Bottom line, I think NRDs are going to become a lot more common, and collectors are going to have to decide if they really, really want a figure before placing a pre-order.

Some very valid points, being a new collector myself I'm very nervous about what I'm preordering for release in 9+ months time in case I change my mind and am stuck with the order.

NRDs are common in the UK but there is at least one company in the UK who are very good at letting you transfer the deposit to something else if you change your mind. A classic example of this is with the Mk43 & 45. I currently have the 43 on PO but I've got a feeling I'll be wanting the 45 instead when that is announced so to know I can switch the deposit across gives me the flexibility to have the best of both worlds.

I do wonder though that if lots of people do this with the 43 & 45 that they'll stop allowing these deposit transfers as they'll end up being stuck with a load of 43s that they can't shift!

Sideshow allow the transfer only once. I wouldn't be surprised that they used to allow transfers all the time, but it became too frequent, so a once only limit was placed.

I know of some suppliers in Australia that will always allow you to transfer the NRD or keep it as a store credit. They are smaller stores, so it's probably not too much of a hassle with them.

I also see NRD's becoming more common because with the glut of superhero films and Star Wars films coming out, there will be so many figures on the market. They can take up to a year or more from pre order to release with some of these figures, but the movies are being released so close together. Soon enough we'll have Civil War out and another Captain America figure to order.

That Strike Cap hadn't even been released before the new AoU one went up for order. How many ended up cancelling that because they liked the new one better?
Dark World Thor is still in stock and AoU Thor is just around the corner.

I think there will plenty who drop the 43 for the 45 once it is officially revealed. It did have an NRD though, so if collectors have already used the one off transfer then they'll be SOL.

I meant to mention something else I've noticed is people selling their POs on the Facebook groups, I can see this becoming more common as these NRDs proliferate.

Its always going to be a concern, especially those of us fairly new to this sort of collecting with long term pre-orders. So far the longest I have waited with money down is Python which was about a month from paying the NRD to it being in my hand. The Mark 3, 43 and Cap where its 9-12+ months until I get the figure is a bit nail biting. Alot of what ifs in my head, not so much "do I want" or "will I still be able to afford" the figure, I am certain in my choices (otherwise I wouldn't have ordered) and always use a credit card for payments (extra security plus no risk of going into an minus if money is tight that month, unexpected bill or just forgot to move money about). For me its more a "ok I am ordering this 12 months in advance, what is the place I am picking it up from goes bust before then?" small amount of money down (why I never do flex style payments just save into my own account) and again a credit card should be able to recover any NRD's... its more a worry about then not getting the desired now not available collectable!

Yeh I think SS really hated the timing of that with Strike Cap, at least with Thor the new release will only sway people who want a Thor and prefer the sleeved or sleevless look get the choice.

With a company like sideshow and a product like hot toys there is little worry of the company closing up shop and the figure still coming out else where. If sideshow goes belly up (which I really really doubt) hot toys would be in real trouble. 3/4 of all hot toys sold go thru sideshow. And sideshow has a long established business history. They carry a diverse product catalog, and even make their own figures. As a business model they are pretty good.

That really only applies when ordering through Slideshow, I order mine through a mix of suppliers to get the best prices (admitted so far most of the small number through SS), general observation about long wait pre-orders and the worries of first time buyers.
