Having seen AoU I'm really loving Prime now however I think Hot Toys has dropped the ball on this as they should have had an alternate head where he has his cheeks open and the red light visible. I loved it in the film when they were open as it looked much more classic Ultron

This. Might get a spare HS and cut the cheeks open if they don't do it.

Revising after a blockbuster like this comes out is nearly impossible :gah:

Can't find a screen cap of it right now but this is basically what I'm talking about:

Pretty sure the figure has that. You can see in the last promo photo. The mouth opens and there's red light in his mouth and the lower portion of his cheeks.

After seeing the movie I prefer the Prime to the "roided out" Final version. However I agree the neck is too skinny and not sure if the mouth opens enough (a little more would be good). So gonna wait and see before ordering. Had it been diecast I would have POed by now.

One thing that they could potentially do is put the main joint at the base of the neck instead of the skull, to allow room for his neck to be sculpted bigger/thicker while keeping the articulation and LED feature intact. The hard part is basically making it all look uniform (think multiple interlocking pieces) and the fact that they'd need to redo the entire torso and head section.

I forgot about the LED feature when I suggested the interchangeable neck/head combos. I did consider the joint at the base of the neck as you've suggested, but given the intricacy of the design I think that would look unnatural when rotated.

It's most likely too late to expect a major overhaul of the design; probably the best we can hope for is that they just beef up the neck and head so they're closer to the on-screen proportions.

I guess there must be some rhyme and reason based on functionality. I originally thought it was an articulation thing, but the day after I posted that here I looked at my Heartbreaker and was like 'hey, wait a minute..."

They really need to angle the "eyebrows" more to get the meaner look. Nowhere in the film has Ultron looking like what the prototype is showing.

He does have that look at some points, but only during the calm talking scenes or when he's being patronizing before a fight...

Haha yeah, that's a good point about Heartbreaker. I think the difficulty with Ultron's design is the fact that his neck is lined up like actual musculature, which is obviously harder to put articulation into unless you do it with multiple pieces that interlock/overlap with each other just to get that streamlined look while maintaining the articulation.

or maybe better.. get two heads.. one calm, one angry. lol.

Ideally yes, but this is HT we're talking about. :lol

Sorry I probably wasn't clear enough, at a few points of the movie, those circular discs on his cheeks open right up and glow red. The effect is amazing and very reminiscent of the comic book look, like this:

please note that the prototype has now been changed, the head sculpt with more solid panel lines.
and the shoulder pad are closer to the body. it's evolving!

I really want to like this figure and I was ok with the original proto. Now the nose area looks too flat and I'm worried that this will only look good while lit up. If Hot Toys can figure out how to add an AC adapter to this I'll be all over it.
