This looks sweet but I'm holding out for ultimate ultron. That one looks like it needs less lights to look alive, which is one of the reasons I'd prefer that one to prime.

Overall: nice figure but i felt it's a bit overpriced - 280 - 300 would have been perfect.

It's a nice review. I don't know how you could ever expect this to be 25-30-% cheaper then any iron man figure. Diecast or plastic. Mk43/45/46 are all well over 300 bucks. Sorry, but I just don't see how you can say it should be that cheap.

Great review as always Xenomorph. I did notice though that you must have removed the head before the video since the back of the neck was outside the base of the back of the head.
I appreciate your honest opinion on the figure, even if I dont agree with all of it.
I am glad to see that he has some ankle side pivot though.

I do.

It's his opinion, his review. He's entitled to say what's on his mind.

Not everyone feels like justifying HT's insane prices again and again and again and again.

i think a more reasonable price would be $350. the lack of diecast hurts it a little in my opinion same with the lack of accessories when it comes to the price and perceived value. when you're paying $375 for a figure, you want it to have that heft and weight to it, and you want to feel like you're getting the total package. not having the diecast makes it feel a bit cheaper in hand and only including a couple hands lowers the perceived value. and the first thought the average person would have is that it should be reflected in the price.

personally i think the price is fair, maybe a little on the higher end based on the above issues. the amount of detail in this thing and its size are quite impressive, that's why the price isn't a killer for me. i'm sure once i have it in hand i'll wish it had more weight to it. the stand will help though. that thing really looks great.

That's actually cool though. Even if it's just a small nudge, it's enough to make a difference in some posing stability.

yeah, even a small amount of ankle pivot would work for me.. i'm not going to want to have him in any crazy spider-man poses. i just want the feet to be flush against the ground.

i've wanted this for so long that i don't think i'll be able to pass it up once it hits the states. but i wish i had enough discipline to wait for an ultimate version since that's the one i want the most. if they hint at one or announce one prior to ultron reaching the states. i think i'll probably cancel my preorder for this guy. it'll hurt.. but in the long run i'd be happy that i waited it out. plus, if there were three ultron figures and i had to have two.. they'd be the ultimate version and the mark 1. having prime and ultimate would sort of feel like a waste of money.

Does anyone know the actual cost per figure for Hot Toys to produce Ultron? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but these are sold cheaper in Hong Kong directly by Hot Toys based on the exchange rate conversion? Ultron is sold to Sideshow, who then mark up the price, so they can make a profit? Really we have no idea how much this should cost. They come up with a price sometimes a year before it's produced. They may have spent more money than anticipated and actually lost money on an item. I'm not defending Hot Toys and I cannot afford to buy even half the figures I want. I wish they were cheaper, but I can see I have no idea why a specific piece costs a specific amount.

You can buy Ultron from differents China sellers around 420$ shipped. This is at how much is sold over there. I do not know Secret Base but I figure a little less...

Looks like Ultron and Nick Fury hit NYC this morning for me, so hopefully either tomorrow or Tuesday
I will have these guys in-hand! :yess:

And as far as the pricing complaint from xenom0rph goes, he is bigger than Thanos, more engineering involved,
more parts, better light-up base than Thanos, HE actually lights up, Thanos did not… and he comes in at
$40 less than Thanos… so I am going to have to go with his pricing is right on par (maybe a better value even)
than other Hot Toys figures right now.

Thanos was one of the most overprice figures by HT. Overall low quality with a unusually high price. Comparing to that,Ultron is a bargain!!! [emoji1]

Ultron's entire body is brand new. Anytime HT have to build a complete body from scratch ( like Ultron, Thanos, Hulk) that is always going to raise the price. New parts require new molds which can cost thousands of dollars. So its a real investment/risk for them. Plus these new parts are unique to Ultron, so they can't be re purposed for any other figures. Except maybe Ultimate Ultron :monkey3 So that also factors into the pricing. Thats why they repaint so many Ironmans. If they can turn one mold into 5 or 6 ..or 12 :slap different products its, totally worth it for them. A lot of the normal size figures reuse the same parts, like the body hands head sculpt. ( they got 3-4 figures for Cap and Scarlet Witch reusing the same sculpt) and that cuts down on price.

Finally got to these couple reviews and they have me PUMPED. Budget's is very informative and Xeno always gives us a great look with good lighting and a nice HD quality. I have to say I don't exactly agree with some of his points on this one though, especially the price. In today's market where the standard figure is $220-$240, it's very wishful thinking to want this at $280-$300. We all want these to be cheaper across the board, but $280 just doesn't line up with the rest of HT's catalog.

This would've felt a little better at $349.99 so I'd say it's overpriced by $25 or so, but it's not a completely insulting $25 because you can see where it went in the size, tooling and intricacy.

I'm really happy with how this turned out and would happily go for an Ultimate to accompany this

yep. I wasn't saying the price is cheap or it's worth it or not. I was saying if you actually collect and compare prices and look at the entire market and catalog there's no justification to expect a 17 inch tall, essentially iron man, to be 280-300. Zero. Other then, "I want it cheaper". It's as big as the 1/4 scale mk43. With a lot less potential for reuse. And is 150 bucks cheaper then the 1/4 scale figures. It's production cost is every bit as much as the 1/4 stuff. That's what you can compare it to. Not a figure like 1/6 shotgun, which is half the size and has a lot of shared potential tooling and engineering. To say this should be cheaper, and not just a little, then a 1/6 main version iron man suit is just silly.

I get why it's more as its a new mold that won't be re-used. I still think it's somewhat expensive though. Even if just a bit was shaved off and it was around $350 I'd feel better about getting it. I think I'm just going to stick with the Mark I version.

The more I see this guy all lit up, the faster I want it to get here... I gotta say I'll be kinda upset if HT doesn't make Ultimate Ultron, I'd love to have those two next to each other.
