Could not say it any better.

thanks, but...

I know any company wants to show their product "as good as it can be" in promotional materials, which only make sense (I'm thinking about how fast food shops make their burgers look in commercials). But at what point does it become false advertising?

This Luke was the STAR of SDCC2015, IMHO. Drop dead likeness (particularly compared to proto Han/Chewie/Vader/Obi), with only Leia approaching the same level of sheer awesome. What we got was another "very nice" HT offering, but what I was expecting to be the headliner, centerpiece, star of the show is quckly becoming a background player as he settles into the collection...

ALL THAT SAID

There are some TERRIFIC angles on this sculpt that you can highlight to get AWFULLY close to the proto level of greatness. I just wish it wasn't so hard to do.

...you said it better right there :goodpost:

Hot toys has made us all spoiled. Ironically of the two new Lukes, I am a tad less happy with the Stormie version, if only because his eyes are painted in a way that seems to represent the Uncanny Valley. At least with the ANH version, I do see that. But, I agree with others that have stated the likeness is a little off straight on, decent from the profile. Still, Lightyears ahead of the Sideshow one, in terms of quality (and price, argh on that last one).

i think the mold got squished in production. the proto pics had more of a square head where this end product ended up coneheaded. i think that threw off all the likeness :( i hate seeing the box art. what could have been. oh well.

I'm I the only one who will display this with the blast helmet on, I'm hoping the head will fit the sideshow pilot luke.

Wait, which is which? LOL, I suck at comparisons!! bottom left one is the proto, right? Think you guys hit it - the face seemed a little 'fuller' than the final -

I don't think the likeness is much better on the proto. The eyes show some white under the iris more (maybe the iris is smaller) and the cheeks are a bit less full. The face on the left reminds me more of ROTJ Hamill than ANH--minus the hair obviously.

No, it's too small a detail for me to worry about and prop accuracy aside, it makes sense to me that story wise the sabre saw no alteration. That said, it has been mentioned here and there since the PO went up, so it clearly bugs some folks.

It's different than the TFA one too. There's absolutely no consistency with the Anakin saber. Every iteration is different in the films but Hot Toys is making every version look like the Empire one, rather than the ROTS, ANH, or TFA one.

I think the makers of TFA movie made an effort to make Luke's saber look like it did in ESB, so I think HT using the ESB is right (or at least real close)

anyone else annoyed that he's got his empire saber and not his STAR WARS one?

I'm a bit annoyed, particularly because my plan was to display him and Ben near my ANH replica Saber. Obviously, it wasn't a deal beaker for me, but it is a bit annoying and seems out of character for the kind of accurate details HT usually gives such things.

But, I might use the hilt from a SS farmboy on his belt (or find a better 1/6 version) and use the LED arm for my Bespin figure anyway.

I was wondering if the SS one was correct. I know it's not a huge deal, but that original saber (I made on from an actual graflex YEARS ago) is THE Star Wars touchstone for me!

Yes the farmboy sideshow one is correct. Has the eye on the bottom, and bubbles on the switch on the side. The problem with the SS one is that it's not as shiny. I think I'd like to get a Medicon one though. I've not seen it in hand but it looks good in pictures. Not sure how well it is in scale though.

So I've got several of my HT SW collection set up in the family room right now (where they are generally forbidden), and my wife just walked in and said, "wow, that Luke is AMAZING". So that's a win. End of story. No more debate required :lol.

Ok, I just found some pictures from TFA and it looks like I am wrong. TFA Saber seems to be a mix between ANH and ESB. It has the eye on the bottom instead of the duplicate nob that's on top like in ANH and the rest looks like Empire with the rivets in the grip and D ring on the end. Hard to tell from the picture but it also looks like it has the circuitry strip in the switch like ESB rather than the bubble strip of ANH.

Interesting mix of parts. If I were to create an idealized version mixing both ANH and ESB I might have done it like they did. They kind of picked all the coolest parts.
