Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

They should all die. But again.... it's Disney. That's why this movie isn't about the Bothans mission later.

Just to clarify, the Bothans weren't the ones that stole the plans for the first Death Star, they were the ones that got intel that the Emperor was on the second Death Star. Mon Mothma mentions that in her briefing in ROTJ.

actually they all live. They get the plans and lose them at the end. They get the plans for reals in Star Wars: Rogue Two: Another Star Wars Story

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

What's interesting is it's the most racially/ethnically diverse cast in a Star Wars film ever - yet it leads directly into a film (ANH) that has to be 99.5% white.

There may be a handful of background extras in Mos Eisley that appear non-European, but every single rebel and imperial is white and even in - of all places - the "diverse" cantina (where they even do a "we don't serve their kind here" line,) every human is white.

It makes you wonder how intentional it must have been. It was shot in England after the era of "Love Thy Neighbour," an iconic British show about an English man dealing with non-white neighbors, so it's not like England was all white in 1976.

And people talk about how blatantly racist things were in the 1970's but even in that era, SW/ANH was called out for no non-white actors (supposedly prompting Lando's inclusion.)

I don't know that it was particularly intentional, English society just was very racist and there were probably hardly any black actors - and particularly extras - beyond a few exceptions.

Actually using the past tense about racism seems a bit optimistic given what's happened here since June...

They transmit the plans just before they all get killed... Then one of the scenes from the reshoot a pops up and reveals they actually all lived.

Thats exactly what he is saying.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

Is it not racial stereotyping to have the Chinese actor in the film be a martial arts specialist? he even dresses a bit like he's come straight out of a kung fu flick. I dont remember Finn pulling out a basketball halfway through TFA.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

kind of feel like whoever cast Donnie Yen. Really liked Ip Man and wanted the exact same character in this film. Then Realised it seemed too obvious so made him blind.

Blind man with a stick has got to be the most boring Hot Toys doll I have ever seen.

A blind Roy Batty with a stick could work.

Obviously, you have never been exposed to the Zatoichi film series.

I have not seen any trailers (I like to go in fresh) but when I saw the die cast of these characters in the Disney Store I was like :slap you guys are going there!!
I guess Ill find out in December what accent they speak!

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

I was hoping someone would mention the numerous Disney deaths. Disney kills characters off all the time. This character probably gets blown away as soon as the film starts.

While it's a valid criticism, I have to admit it's not something that's ever stuck out to me much while watching ANH (unlike in all those scifi movies from the 50s or old episodes of Doctor Who where it's pretty hard to miss), probably because of how few human characters there really are in the movie. It's basically Han, Luke, Leia, Ben, some Imperial Officers... and a whole bunch of droids and aliens.

I do agree it might seem a bit more apparent now though, following the much more diverse Rogue One.

I wasn't talking about the cartoons really (as ZE referenced above) -- I was focusing on the film franchises (Star Wars, Marvel, Pirates, etc)... and was talking about Main Characters -- like the ones we're following in the story. Disney seems to steer clear from killing off main characters. And by killing I mean dead... not coming back like Barbossa or a vague death like all MCU villains. Disney Star Wars hasn't killed a villain yet. They couldn't even kill off Phasma or Hux.

I come from a distant time where, at minimum, the hero's best friend was always killed off so maybe I'm biased.

I'm hoping for a reservoir dogs type ending to rogue one.

I understand. To be fair, MCU comics never kill anyone permanently either. I think red skull is defintely a goner unless they reboot captain America. They should've killed off war machine in the civil war movie.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

Agreed.

As long as MCU villains in the films are killed off by those gem stones -- which I think almost every one of them has been, at least major villains -- there's a chance they will return in Infinity Wars.

I guess it's to be expected that every single Imperial face is white throughout the OT (without exception,) but the all-white aspect is also obvious on the rebel side like the Yavin medal ceremony, where there's not a single non-white face out of many hundreds of rebels of all ranks/categories visible.

Every single rebel - pilots, soldiers, leadership - seen in both SW and ESB is white (all-white in both Yavin and Hoth bases.) It changes a bit in ROTJ, e.g. adding characters like a black rebel pilot and black rebel commando.

But yeah, I point this out only because RO - with its ultra-diverse cast - leads directly into ANH (and we apparently even have scenes in the same Yavin base,) making the all-white aspect especially stark.

And it's also significant that SW was called out for lack of diversity even in 1977, in a time when diversity wasn't the widely accepted and monitored principle it is today.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Rogue One - Chirrut Imwe Collectible Figure

Donnie Yen sounds like Donnie Yen in the movie and we already know he doesn't die in at least the first half of the film. I dot. Think any of the main cast do. They are all apart of the final mission.

And we've had a bunch of white people doing forms of Asian martial arts/sword play. So I don't really see the issue with actually having an Asian person doing it.

Also no clue why people are talking about the whiteness of ANH in contrast when it's believed the majority of Rogue One dies.
