Lies
Lol
I just had a look at my DX15 on the shelf, and although this is better, that old DX15 really is a great figure.
I want this Artisan mostly for the updated smirking face.

I mean, Ebay will be absolutely flooded, as per usual. And the majority of them will sell.it really is. Appears to be the same as the DX15 which is worse than the DX06 which also wasn't the best but definitely better than the DX15. I think I would've preferred a really well sculpted hat with proper textures and paint apps so that it would look real enough with the bulk of being actual fabric material.
That's what it feels like every time. It will look out of reach b/c you're going to have so many ppl on multiple devices (at least a PC and mobile device) at one time as well. Once orders start going though, the numbers begin to drop considerably though as ppl get of whatever extra devices they were using.
I get it. Stay strong. But if the itch prevails, get that too.I just had a look at my DX15 on the shelf, and although this is better, that old DX15 really is a great figure.

No way in seven Hell's. Don't you put that bad Ju-Ju out there!I will definitely try to order this, unless HT prices me out with an insulting $550+ for mostly reuse.
True. I remember when Anakin went up, there was one on eBay for well above the retail and the only other item the seller had avaialble for sale was spatula or some other kitchen utensilI mean, Ebay will be absolutely flooded, as per usual. And the majority of them will sell.
It's an unfortunate game for collectors.
the DX15 still holds up very well. At the very least, I would say you should probably upgrade to the new headpiece and smirking sculpt, leather belts and grab the extra hands. Maybe the body as well if the paint apps between the head and chest are too different. That might not bother you, but I know it would drive me nuts.I just had a look at my DX15 on the shelf, and although this is better, that old DX15 really is a great figure.

DX15 is no slouch. Not by a long shot. Agreed.True. I remember when Anakin went up, there was one on eBay for well above the retail and the only other item the seller had avaialble for sale was spatula or some other kitchen utensil

Agreed! HT has done very well with how they make their POTC figures. While I know most (including myself) will say that the TDK figures are what put HT on the map, their POTC figures just a couple figures before those were pretty great for their time. Heck, whatever material they used for the belts back then still holds up now and have not cracked after all this time I've had them.DX15 is no slouch. Not by a long shot. Agreed.
I wonder what the license parameters are for this franchise. HT will obviously opt for the cheaper one plus what Disney allows.Agreed! HT has done very well with how they make their POTC figures. I hate the plastic bandana. Light gleems off it.Yeah, crazy how I flipped a switch.
Going Collector’s. Does the job just fine. Wool hair with thinner more accurate looking dreadlocks and braids. Sculpted bandana that makes his head look smaller. Same inaccurate huge 10-gallon hat. Same nice genuine leather upgrades.
Worst case scenario, I just get a thinner fabric badana like Gipetto mentioned. But yeah, there’s a lot to “hate” on this, so I think I’m cool with going this route. This thing isn’t even accurate as it should be.I hate the plastic bandana. Light gleems off it.
Showing how... plastic it is.

Again, I hate to sound like I’m just hatin’, but nothing Hot Toys does truly excites me. They’re the king of short cuts and leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Speaking of bases, that shark base is the most hideous thing I've ever seen outside of a spam sandwich that I hated being forced to eat as a child.
More power to those that dig it but my god it's like cancer to my eyeballs.
If I had to guess, my thoughts are that I wouldn't put it past HT hold on the license is probably about to expire, so this could be their last effort at a Jack Sparrow for awhile if they don't reup the license. That is, if Disney would even allow them to with their relationship with Depp being what it is. This is all based on my very limited knowledge on how licensing may work in this hobby from on what I've heard in the past so it's all just assumption on my part.I wonder what the license parameters are for this franchise. The fact Disney is letting this films license be used again is likely an agreement from a year or more ago if I had to guess. None of this is decided at a drop of the dime.
Anyhoo. I wonder how far HT will take it..
Agreed. With the dreads being sculpted as well as they are, a fabric bandana would go a long way on the non-artisan version. But that's probably why HT didn't include it for that version as the only reason remaining to go for the Artisan version would be the "real" dreads. Ironically, one could get the non-artisan and a real fabric bandana from Dino and most likely still come out cheaper than going all in for the Artisan.I hate the plastic bandana. Light gleems off it.

I mean, even if you didn't want to pay for a the full figure and have 2 of the same character, this will get parted at at the typical places like Toy Anxiety and MonkeyDepot along with eBay, so plenty of opportunity to grab the parts you desire. At first, they'll be hard to get most likely, just like the DX Luke Skywalker heads were, but after a little bit, it'll be easily attainable.Having just bought a DX15 and also having uncontrollable FOMO, this is the line of thinking I am going with. Don’t think I can pass this one up even if it’s the non-Artisan. Get the improved head and display a coat and non-coat look simultaneously with two unique DX bases.
Excellent write up on this topic. Just, wow. This is 100% Depp to me right here:
