Also as much as I'd love to see a figure of Jack based off the first three films, I'd much rather see Hot Toys make Davy Jones or even Barbossa.
I've been going into this with the mindset of it being a standalone centerpiece -- what with the diorama base and all -- but I'd be hard-pressed to ignore Barbossa, Davy Jones... heck, even Will and Elizabeth would get a second look or two, timeline incongruity notwithstanding.

This really came out looking great! I think both the Deluxe and Artisan have their pros, so you can’t go wrong with either one. For me personally, I prefer the cloth bandana and rooted braids on the Artisan. I feel it adds that much more to the realism of the figure even though they’re bigger, and it’ll probably look better in person. I also don’t think there was much of a drop from the prototype with the faceplates from what I saw in the review video posted, so I’m happy about that. This is going to look great as a standalone piece,so I can’t wait to get it!

Will is my favorite in the franchise, but I don’t think I need him or any others from the IP in 1/6. It’d throw off the vision for the display and if they were made and mismatched with DMTNT Jack, it’d grind my gears. Jack is an icon and I think having him as a standalone piece perfectly encapsulates the franchise amazingly well on his own.

Funny how we all have different styles of collecting!

That's awful brother. Sorry to hear that.

I've got just 1 order left with SS, never buying **** from them again!

Btw, how're Toys buying agent and Pop collectibles, especially price- and customer service-wise? Rn my go-to store is Gundamit. Awesome folks. But often they don't solicit every figure of the same company.
Never used POP. But I don't feel comfortable ordering from them. Maybe as a last resort, but only for in stock items.

TBA used to be the best both price and service wise. I must have ordered close to 20 figures from them in 2022. But honestly, they're not what they used to be. Their peices became exorbitant recently, and I've had a few really bad experiences that have soured my taste.

The thing is, one sixth kit seems to be the most reliable. But unless you preorder (which I normally don't like to do) you won't have much luck finding a figure in stock.

I'm just a sucker for the costuming, tbh. I mean, I love the characters, too, don't get me wrong. But the appeal as sixth scale figures for me is all the layering, the little accessories, the coats and sashes and bandanas... That's why I'd be hard-pressed to ignore other POTC releases.

Finally i think i'll stop to look after Artisan version.

On TBA he's really expensive too...
HK$4,770.00 with shipping to France
618,50€ with Paypal fees
+20% custom fees = 742€

Really too expensive...
I'll pay my Deluxe version 332€ include shipping, so i don't think that the Artisan version is worth the 410€ difference.

I'll probably ask an artist to do a rooted hair + fabric bandana, it will be less expensive.

Or, the best solution would be if a company did the hair + bandana directly, like SPxOld King does for the Hot Toys Batman

It will be clearly possible because we can remove all hair + bandana from the HS of Jack

I agree, for folks that already own DX15 there's not much of an improvement here but I personally prefer the base and the smiling head on this one and there's the added bonus of the belts not being pleather. Overall this release is for people like me who missed out on the previous releases and didn't feel comfortable with the aftermarket prices for the DX15.

Now if only they'd give us a new Davy Jones...
Yeah, the DX15 holds up great.

I remember watching the Amber-Depp trial and thinking there might never be another Jack Sparrow figure, on account of Johnny not signing off on his likeness, or wanting to be involved with Disney again. I considered paying after market prices, but ultimately I exercised restraint.

Really glad they made another.

And I would love a Davy Jones in the collection.

Who knows. There's talk of a script for a new Pirates film with Johnny. Maybe he'll decide to return for the right offer. I know he loves the character, and he knows the fans want to see more...

But after how Disney treated him, I don't think he should. Unless they really made it worthwhile as an apology, or form of compensation.

He did say "300 million, and a million Alpacas" wouldn't be enough.

Maybe $400 million, and 2 million Alpacas then?

I imagine there's something about how he licensed his likeness between the original three and this film. That's why HT is releasing this iteration again, it's All they can feasibly do.
I honestly think it’s due to the DMTNT license being cheaper and renewing it is more cost-efficient vs obtaining a more expensive BP license. Idk, I’m just spitballing but that’s how I see it, given Hot Toys and their complacent ways.

I know for most this might night seem a big enough difference from DX15, but the tailoring alone is quite an improvement imo. The baldric (chest belt) on this is way more accurate and the real leather waist belts are also much preferred. Even the crocodile/alligator belt is more accurate than the DX15. Also, something I find interesting on this one versus DX06 and DX15 is that they screen printed the buttons on the vest this time instead of real, hand sewn buttons.

EDIT: just so I don’t have to write it all over again. Here are some posts I made for what’s different/upgraded from the previous versions.

I really like this pic. Bandana looks fine here.

JND are doing a Jack Sparrow?!
1/3 statue in full captain’s gear if their silhouette is anything to go by
Yep, a 1/3 Jack from Curse of the Black Pearl. The silhouette they’ve shown looks like they’ll be way closer on the hat as well, which is a nice change. Hopefully a full reveal soon!
Are you sure it’s COTBP? The signage didn’t say so. Only says “Pirates of the Caribbean” but no subtitle to specifically say which version they’re doing unless I missed the info from somewhere. If you heard it was COTBP, was it a reliable source if not direct from JND?
For those who’ll be customizing this to a preferred Black Pearl version, would it be much of a hassle?
Depends on how accurate you want it. You can make it resemble just by stripping it down but it won’t give you the look.

Just about nothing was saved from COTBP b/c they didn’t intend on having an sequel.

His belts, buckles, hat, vest, and pants are all the most different. Sash is meant to hang much longer as well but it was made from the same fabric that they luckily found again when beginning production on DMC and AWE.

He also doesn’t have the tattoos on his knuckles in the earlier films nor the X scar on his cheek.

DMTNT is also the only film where he has the extra fabric wrap around his right hand

No rings on his left hand in COTBP. He had a black spot on his left hand between his thumb and pointer finger.

The “piece of eight” is different after AWE. Even the bandana pattern is different from COTBP compared to the other films.

His hair is also different. More straight hair and less dreads in COTBP. Less trinkets. And also his hair was almost black versus the brown it became in later films.

You’d honestly have a bit better luck trying to transform this into anything but COTBP.

EDIT: Here’s a bit more in depth post I made previously about the differences.

What a nice way to start off the new year. There's an expected downgrade from the prototype and I still don't like the neutral sculpt but I'm satisfied with the smiling one. Bulk aside, the artisan version also looks very well done, it has way more detail and trinkets on the braids than the sculpted version. The only thing I don't really like is the hat, it's enormous and just completely wrong.
Ironically I didn't like the smirk on the Dx15 and the neutral sculpt was better. Now this one is in reverse. Lol but each have their merits I guess.

I'm actually happy they've updated the clothes from their Dx15. The belts and trinkets are accurate now, the vest is longer and more accurate to how it looked in film. The DX15 one was shorter the details on the chest belt is the best and from the video looks to be actual leather which is great honestly.

Since this is pretty much the same build as the DX15, here was what I had to do to convert to CotBP look. It took several different Jack's to make this happen.

It's why I didn't bother with this Artisan. But if HT wants to get smart and offer CotBP (or even a new updated DMC/AWE) I'll order day one.

Until then I'm content with my build.
