The smirk is so perfectly Jack that it's the face I wanted to use anyway.

Since this is pretty much the same build as the DX15, here was what I had to do to convert to CotBP look. It took several different Jack's to make this happen.

It's why I didn't bother with this Artisan. But if HT wants to get smart and offer CotBP (or even a new updated DMC/AWE) I'll order day one.

Thanks, yeah there's some work involved. Honestly I did this back when I thought there would never be another HT Sparrow with the Depp/Disney fallout. Now they they seem to be still on board with Sparrow merch I would have waited hopeful for them to do Curse / DMC / AWE.

I know for most this might night seem a big enough difference from DX15, but the tailoring alone is quite an improvement imo. The baldric (chest belt) on this is way more accurate and the real leather waist belts are also much preferred. Even the crocodile/alligator belt is more accurate than the DX15. Also, something I find interesting on this one versus DX06 and DX15 is that they screen printed the buttons on the vest this time instead of real, hand sewn buttons.

1/3 statue in full captain’s gear if their silhouette is anything to go by

Are you sure it’s COTBP? The signage didn’t say so. Only says “Pirates of the Caribbean” but no subtitle to specifically say which version they’re doing unless I missed the info from somewhere. If you heard it was COTBP, was it a reliable source if not direct from JND?

Depends on how accurate you want it. You can make it resemble just by stripping it down but it won’t give you the look.

Just about nothing was saved from COTBP b/c they didn’t intend on having an sequel.

His belts, buckles, hat, vest, and pants are all the most different. Sash is meant to hang much longer as well but it was made from the same fabric that they luckily found again when beginning production on DMC and AWE.

He also doesn’t have the tattoos on his knuckles in the earlier films nor the X scar on his cheek.

DMTNT is also the only film where he has the extra fabric wrap around his right hand

No rings on his left hand in COTBP. He had a black spot on his left hand between his thumb and pointer finger.

The “piece of eight” is different after AWE. Even the bandana pattern is different from COTBP compared to the other films.

His hair is also different. More straight hair and less dreads in COTBP. Less trinkets. And also his hair was almost black versus the brown it became in later films.

You’d honestly have a bit better luck trying to transform this into anything but COTBP.

I hadn't noticed the printed buttons. So much business in front of the vest I can't even see them.

Wanted a Barbossa for years ended up upgrading mine, waiting on the artist to finish rooting.

I don't think we'll ever see hot toys do him though which is sad given we've had 3 DX sparrows.

Also, noticed in your previous post you mentioned Mad Leather Studio - do they tend to only release items around the drops? Would love a better hat too if they’re offering.

Yea the hat is just really oversized and the shape is sloppy. Almost like a bad Halloween costume hat.

You can contact Mad Leather studio on IG and inquire about it. As far as I know they don’t do runs/drops of items. They are made to order as far as I’m aware.

Yea definitely better than the DX15 or artisan ones. Still not accurate but it’s got a sharper shape and doesn’t look as wonky.

Best sculpted hats are still the original Medicom hat and the Hot Toys AWE hat. Both need to be heated up though to sort of fit better on the current HT heads. I also dremeled out the inside of them to get a bit more space but I think MaulFan just heated up the medicom hat and got it to look fine.

English review, pretty annoying that they made the sword plastic this time not diecast. They definitely cheaped out on some parts of the figure.

That Pearl accessory is impressive to say the least.

I'm guessing that's Todo with Disney licensing agreement which seems weird? Luckily I kept my DX15 rum bottle when I sold mine.

Yeah. There's no reality where I was going to skip this figure.

Normally it's a must for me that a character representation also represents their best corresponding film. I would never for example grab an arnie from Terminator Genisys. I would only consider T1 & T2 for the collection.

But it's a peculiar case with Jack..

Perhaps this is a character that transcends the films. He's a separable element. He's bigger. He's the constant even through the weaker installments.

It helps that none of his appearances feel distinctly offshoot, but on course with his natural evolution.

Ideally, I would have preferred a figure from the first or second film. But as such, this figure doesn't feel out of place for me as a representation for the character, or the franchise at large.

I remember playing a videogame. I think it was adapted from the second film. But nothing I can find sparks any memory.

Granted, I wouldn't have been 10 at the time..
