We'll have to sort of disagree on that one, tho I hadn't given it a lot of thought before. I suppose if I had to define it, like the Mandalorian, there's an overall "base look" e.g. the sash, dreads, dangles, head scarf with variants.

How a collector feels about detail variants IMO personal choice. I'd pick up a good COTBP Jack, but since I have all of them, line them up on a shelf and which one is gonna draw the attention - probably the one with all the elaborate details e.g. this one.

But since I thought of it, I won't be surprised if there is a COTBP Jack put out, for a 25th anniversary. Either by HT or other. Why not, companies love "anniversaries". 😁 And maybe by then Depp will be less *&^% off.

Generally/critically/objectively (arguably, I guess with you guys) speaking, COTBP>>>>>>>>> DMTNT.

For me, the character design and the source go hand in hand. Everything is case-by-case basis, but the last two films in the Pirates series are bad imo, so why would I want representation from that? I’d rather have representation from the trilogy movies.

It kinda reminds me about how I feel about a Terminator Endoskeleton figure. Personally, I’d rather have the classic OG T2 design vs the Genysis design cause well…T2 film is the better design and film? This is all subjective of course, but just my opinions (opinions which you guys seem to take a huge issue with).

If Hot Toys had done COTBP Jack instead of this new release, it would’ve been a win-win for everyone at the end of the day, especially since HT consumers will buy whatever and because they haven’t done that iteration yet (guess not for those like you, so yeah we’ll agree to disagree). We’ll see what happens though. If HT makes a COTBP Jack in the future, I’ll sell off the DX38 DMTNT version and upgrade!

He was pretty open about his drug and alcohol abuse on trial, what I recall was Heard's lawyers were trying to prove Disney didn't drop him from the Pirates franchise because of Heard's allegations, but because of Depp's history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Depp testified that despite his tumultuous behavior, Disney was more than happy to keep him on board and they were already talking about making Pirates 6 before Heard came forward with her allegations of suffering domestic violence and abuse. It was only after the fact that, in Depp's words, Disney cut ties with him and dropped him from the franchise all together but kept producing merchandise, dolls and showcasing Jack Sparrow at Disney World, without his involvement in any of it.
Man... **** Disney

I feel fortunate that there is no definitive on screen look for Jack for me, the ideal look for me is a hybrid of parts from almost every movie.

I love the hat from Curse the most, the shape it kept, the weathering and color, perfection, that and his bandana.

My favorite costume look is from 2/3, the double belts feels more Jack than just a single belt, but 3 belts is too much, especially how huge the third one is. I also like the buckle on the scabbard better than Curse.

I like the overall look of his hair in 5, it has more volume to it than 4, but it feels more like Curse with a bit more length and I like it a bit longer.

So because of that, I am ok with the hodge podge of parts I use to make my personal Jack figure, and much like Jack, I add new trinkets over time.

Hmm, looks like DMC/AWE is the “definitive” to me. He’s got the baldric and isn’t so plain. Hmmm, I guess I’d want that version now that I think about 😂 Black Pearl is the best in the trilogy but DMC/AWE are still great in their own right and I love the ending to the trilogy.

(Couldn’t find a better AWE full body picture)

Guess I’ll keep on waiting for either of these looks.

Got my figure today! Didn't arrive until 9pm :gah:

Didn't have much time to look it over too thoroughly, just wanted to make sure there weren't any QC issues. Thankfully none, not even any smudges/dye on the serious headsculpt :yess:

Quick review of my first artisan, just by the nature of the hair, there is not much futzing needing to be done. BUT, those pieces of straighter hair definitely need to be reworked as they're twirled around neighboring dreads which I don't like.

The bandana doesn't feel out of scale in person. The dreads are, but not as much as pictures make them out to be. The dreads are really well done, though, no doubt about it. You have to look for the bird skull in the back of the hair as it's buried in the back.

The hat is comically large. Very much halloween costume-esque. I only had the AWE hat out at the time to test and it fits flawlessly. For those that have one of the AWE hats or were able to grab the last few on eBay, I think you'll be happy. You'll probably need to heat it up some as I dremeled out mine to get it to fit on the DX15 hairpiece. I really hope we get a custom hat made (hopefully purchasable at OSK), so everyone can replace the awful one that this figure comes with. Didn’t think it could get worse than the DX15 hat, but it has.

Speaking of the DX15, I think it's been noted, but the faces fit in the new DX37 hair and vise versa. DX06 heads fit, but are a tad loose. Haven't tested what they look like on the new body though.

The paintwork on the faces is really well done. As we all know, probably a bit too much speckling especially compared to InArt's skintones, but this is better skintone paintwork than both DX06 and DX15. I think what gets me more is the level of skin texture that's visible. This isn't one that appears to have softened up during production to my eyes. Speaking of eyes, they look incredible. Some of the best eyes HT have made. My most recent HT figure with moveable eyes is Clonobi, and I think these are even better than those. My most recent InArt is Cavill Superman and these on Jack appear to look more realistic than his as well; but that's not a shot at InArt who do really great eye work as well. I just think these have the edge on a micro level in comparison.

Costume is very much upgraded, though, if you're more on the casual side, I can see why it wouldn't seem like that much of an upgrade from the DX15. I think it’s worth it regardless but I can see why some DX15 owners might not care. Definitely an upgrade if you have the DX06 and would definitely recommend picking up parts at least to upgrade that figure. When it comes to the thinness of the material though, this wins hands down. The clothing feels higher quality than the DX15 and definitely the DX06. I am disappointed that the coat has less weathering on it than the DX15 coat.

Ship in the bottle looks properly dirty on mine. I think it was Justin who was saying it was too dirty and he couldn't see the Black Pearl inside. The Pearl is plenty visible in mine.

The sword is painted so well that I don't care that it's not diecast. I like the weathering and that it's not this brand new, shiny and clean looking sword. Only potential downside it the weight for those that it matters to. I can see why, but it doesn't bother me as long as it's well done like the sword is here.

Base is nicely done as well. The paint and texture of the wood is great. In comparison, the wood on this base is painted much better than the wood topper on the InArt Harry Potter. The water looks nicely done as well. I don't have anything to compare it to as I sold the DX15 long ago.

Current end thoughts - I'm thinking I want to get another to have 3 total DX37 figures. One (the artisan) to keep as is (aside from futzing) to represent DMTNT. One to turn into an OST figure. And one to break down to utilize with my current DMC/AWE custom. Then, just sell all the parts I don't need. I'd also love to get the DX15 base to use with this figure as it's more specific to DMTNT and use this DX37 base with my DMC/AWE custom instead.

I'll have more thoughts as well as pics when I can actually get to the costume to redress it. That won't happen until this weekend unfortunately.

My favorite look is DMC/AWE by a mile. Then CotBP. Then OST and DMTNT just was like **** it let's throw everything on him but the kitchen sink. The artist in me twitches from how over busy it is in design.
I get that. But the character - or as Depp talks about him - went around collecting this and that. Just watched the DMC Special Feature on the costuming and hadn't realized how heavily Depp was involved in his costume, even using his personal property. Just adds something to the fig knowing the actor probably chose a lot of the dangles and belts himself, or it was his own property.
Refreshing when an actor embraces a part instead of these actors who announce they are bored with a part even if it made them millions.

Congrats! Yeah, this fig demands a proper hat, preferably leather. Right now I just keep Jack c!ose by, haven't had time to work him. He's overwhelming when I think about the work that was done.

Ahh, the glory days of bonus features, back when they still offered something of substance. I love the look into Jack that they did for DMC, that’s actually one of my biggest references when I painted my DX15 coat, they really do a good job of showing it’s color, which is not brown like HT always does.

The closest company doing cloth costumes was Tonner with this abomination.

Medicom RAH is second best in my eyes with black, it looks better than Hershey chocolate brown. The tailoring is also stellar, the only downside was using glue on buttons.

All the plastic figures get it right, NECA, Hallmark, Diamond Select, Figuarts, Revoltech.

I would genuinely like to know what reference HT and Beast Kingdom use to think it’s the brown they use.

I hadn't realized that CotBP Jack never got a proper 1/6 scale offering, that alone is enough reason for someone to make that version! The base could be based off his iconic entrance, and he could come with all the things you'd expect him to come with. If someone like InArt got the license for it one day and they were feeling adventurous, they could even try their hand a double back of human and cursed skeleton Jack.

If we were to get a new DMC Jack one day as well, I hope the base is designed after the deck of the Pearl, with some Kraken tentacles showing up behind Jack, that'd make for a pretty sick display. The jar of dirt would be a must have accessory!

I could see HT doing a diorama base of the Pearl with the Kraken tentacles.

Got my Dx06 hat in. Compared to the way oversized hat this one has a pretty tight fit, at first it kept popping up shooting from his head. But when holding it in place longer it stays there, i think it needs to stretch up just a tad. Either way the proportion is much better. Sorry for the bad photo these grey days are terrible when shooting pics.
