Yeah it definitely helps that I just find the continuation of the Skywalker Saga inherently more exciting and thrilling to watch than a story about how some random rebels stole the plans to a Death Star we already watched get destroyed 40 years ago. ;)

After the OT I never really needed a fourth or fifth or 10th "saga" film in the exact same vein as the others. Instead I dreamed of a SW film like Rogue One and LFL delivered. But I also loved TFA and am enjoying reading why you guys put it ahead of RO.
Keep the posts coming! :D

I feel like as a saga film TFA fits in the "action and wonder" department even though there are echoes of ANH weaved in an out.

R1 does the prequel route solidly and is a different beast entirely, introducing new characters quickly and showing a pivotal point in Star Wars lore. I for one am glad there was a "grittier" feeling and the ending they chose. The emotions towards the end were amazing - sadness at the heroes, pride and what they accomplished, vader going off and being amazed at that to sadness again mixed with hope on the final cameo.

Hope future stand alone films are allowed to feel different but tied to this awesome universe.

Totally agree on all points regarding TFA and RO. Great post! :duff

I liked RO more than I thought I would. I say that despite my contempt for the unnecessary changes to several things that I feel should have remained consistent with the OT and a couple things shoehorned in for marketing purposes. I thought the battles were particularly well done. Individual character development rang a bit hollow but considering the circumstances it was probably for the best. K2SO was the exception, I was sad to see him go. The last 20-30 minutes or so were absolutely brilliant. Pretty rare for a movie to finish up with an ending that strong.

What an awesome lot of posts ! Of course no movie is perfect, and they are both different. But I'm just glad we have them and many more to come. Imagine if George hadn't sold to Disney.

We're perhaps a little off topic however I at least decided I now want a Jyn Deluxe. So all good [emoji2][emoji106]

To essentially simplify it for me personally, I can watch every SW film and enjoy it with the exception of TPM (excluding Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan) and AotC. :lol

TPM wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the way too long podrace. Jar Jar was annoying as anything, but he was bearable. The lightsaber dual at the end is worth watching for alone.

AotC is the real abomination, particularly up until the arena when all the Jedi show up. At least there was a cool battle at the end, otherwise I would probably never watch that movie again. Jango is cool at least.

My sentiments as well regarding both films. The long, drawn out pod race for me is a snoozer. Knowing Jake Lloyd hates SW and his role in the film (from what I last heard at least) also makes me not want to watch it. The only good part of that film for me was Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. I thought Liam Neeson made a perfect Qui-Gon.

There's really nothing good about AotC except the death sticks scene with Obi-Wan and the lightsaber duel in the arena, as you mentioned.

I also like the Jango battle in the rain.

I thankfully know the film so little, I'm not even familiar with that part. Sounds made up. :lol

Yet you know the Johnny Cage kick?

During the Jango fight, when Obi hangs by Fett's razor wire -- jolting hard to a stop yet holding on, even soaking wet in the rain -- then hanging and swinging to the landing. I don't know, of all the things its small, but just looked so ridiculous. I never mention it because of the bazillion other nits that come before it.

:lol Yeah, sounds like the same type of random example of nonsense that stands out in the prequels. Mortal Combat must have left a strong impression on me. There are so many scenes where the CGI just looks like human Gumby people swinging around or jumping around, or evading some falling structure. I think I recall the swinging jump from Kenobi in that scene. I may have only seen that movie twice -- once when it came to DVD, and then a second time last year when my girlfriend for some reason wanted to see all six films before TFA.

Yep, the swinging has zero momentum to actually work and looks wonky like many of the "fight moves" in the PT -- everything from Maul's strange slide-kick (you all know the one I mean) to the myriad of "moves" that Anakin and Kenobi make during their Tarzan swing-brawl.

It's the famous "we'll fix it in post" Lucas short-hand.

You're too critical. I'm sorry that you didn't love them.

I feel like Lucas should have worked that into the Jedi mantra to make viewers more forgiving of what they were watching. "Anakin, let go of your inner critic. Release your judgment of bad acting and cgi."
