Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - VGM18 - Batman: Arkham City: Batman Collectible Figure (Specs + Pi

if i remember correctly, the first 2 batches of the TDK DX 02 figures, and Robocop ED figures were the worst hit with rubber deterioration issues. On the DX02, it was the abs section that was constantly leaking oil. I think that was definitely an error on HT's part, because the leakage happened on the abs (non-movable portion of a figure), even with the figure displayed on the table with no exposure to harsh lighting whatsoever. HT acknowledged (not with an open letter of course) it and rectified the issue by changing the abs section from rubber to, if I'm not mistaken, ABS plastic for the 3rd & final batch (for American customers). I purchased the DX 02 from an American retailer and I believe it must have come from that 3rd batch as the abs did not exhibit any issues. As for the ED-209 figs, well I think you could find pics of the rubber either cracking or peeling away from the dome of the figure's head on this forum or on Google or Youtube.

That said, I think HT has, for the most part, dealt well with the rubber issue since the DX02 fiasco. I have the DX09 for 2.5 years now (in a display case with a silica gel packet inside) and there has been no signs of rubber deterioration nor oil leakage till today. And long may that continue!

I do blame HT on the ed209, nothing could have been done about it. As far as the dx02 I believe that was due to warm shipping conditions. My SSC Anakin Skywalker was shipped during a heat wave, the vest stuck to the plastic and tore...

I think he wont believe you without pics, proofs etc. He'll just assume those as 'claims' in his previous posts. :lol

Huskie, if you wanna do research, you'll have to do it on your own. Or ask nicely, and maybe some folks would be keen enough to help. I seriously doubt your current attitude is gonna motivate anyone to help you out. :wave

If warm shipping conditions were solely responsible for the DX02's abs' demise, the issue wouldn't have been found in 2 batches of the same fig; HT wouldn't have gone through the trouble of making changes to the material either. Even those who requested for a warranty exchange on their affected DX02s received replacement bodies with abs made of plastic instead of the initial rubber. Active change of materials goes to show that HT acknowledges the issue on their part. Also, the first batch of DX09 shipped around the same time as the first batch of the DX02, and yet there was no trouble with it whatsoever, even though it came with a full rubber suit.

You just gotta admit that Hot Toys is indefensible in those few reported cases of deterioration (pretty much how you can't defend diecast aircraft manufacturers whose products exhibit zinc rot after a few years), but I believe we are all thankful that they have acknowledged & rectified said issues (except for the ED-209, which I think is still experiencing similar issues as the previous version), and have more hits than misses with rubber so far.

How about you make some effort Huskie? How about you tell us all you know about plasticizers and polymers in synthetic rubber compounds and plastics, and why not getting the formula right and precise has no impact on the integrity of the resultant manufactured components?

Instead of making folks here go over the same conversations we've been having for years, why don't you bring something to the table other than "You guys don't know what you're doing"?

I can't believe people are arguing that HT QC isn't.... patchy, to be as generous as I can about it. For every figure that doesn't have a problem, it seems there's another that does.

Although the flip side is that there seems to be relatively few rubber issues with Leonidas, the Aliens Big Chap or Hellboy, so you might get lucky this time around as well. Bit of a punt though.

Wow. It's rubber being manufactured in China. That's all I need to hear to know that problems are very likely. It's not like Hot Toys doesn't know their customers are compulsive enough to buy every figure anyway... :lol

Don't like the look of the material at all, shame as this would of been nice to have.

Still says April on SSC site, but that may change. I hope it's not December.
