Making lots of money doesn't mean it's better or the best. If it is then I guess stuff like Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Jonas Brothers are the greatest ever.

I'm not saying Avatar is the best choice either, but, in my opinion, it was a better film. I mean that not only as someone who loves cinema, but someone who works directly in the feature film industry. Avatar is an achievement, pure and simple. Hurt Locker is no better than (using the latest war films as examples) Stop Loss or Brothers (and Brothers was a much better human study). When it comes to war films, I still think Platoon is the bar, and most war films can't clear it.

You ask me, Up In The Air, Inglorious Basterds, and District 9 were all much better films with incredible characters that excelled in the art of film.

ignore Bam!

Hurt Locker is awesome! Glad it won!!! I still Love Avatar & D9!!!! all badass movies!!! :rock
Thanks again for being the voice of reason P! :duff

So Best Picture should be awarded to the top grossing film? Boy if that's the case - a lot of great movies (Schindler's List, No Country For Old Men, The English Patient, etc...) would never have stood a chance.
So very true.

I was surprised the combination of Martin and Baldwin as hosts wasn't funnier. There were a few chuckles, but nothing hilarious.

Yes, but Freddy does not pity him. :D

Avatar is an achivement in effects. Awesome.

It failed in character, and story. Which is far more important.

I know right.....all the S*** they talk about Avatar and other stuff....I say one little comment about teh sandbox movie and according to Badmoon and Ill I'm an ass. Thanx buddies.
I never said that you were an ass, I said your comment was lame and lacked class. And for the record, I've never said one bad thing about Avatar, but I have made fun of the 'Avatards' a few times. I don't see that as "talking all kinds of ____".

I guess....I was talking more about Badmoon....he hit a nerve tonight.:monkey4

Im glad Kathryn Bigelow won. She deserved it. I been following her since Near Dark. Avatar was a masterpiece of cinema. but to be honest I throught District 9 done so much for the history of cinema in the aspects of sci fi story telling as Avatar did to the technology in film. District 9 was the best picture of 09. I seen it back to back. I seen it Saturday and went back on Sunday to watched it again.
