I was thinking that it had to be the newly sculpted part or parts on the figure--Red Alert, Bluestreak, and Smokescreen all had newly sculpted bits, as did Exhaust, and they each got their own number. But G2 Sideswipe did as well, and he didn't get his own number. So, I guess Takara hasn't really worked all of that out yet :lol

Sorry to go a bit off track guys but would any of you fine gentlemen know which third party dinobots would go with a masterpiece grimlock?
Want to lock them all down if possible.

The FansToys ones would probably fit the best. They are a little taller than MP Grimlock, but Scoria comes with extenders for Grimlock's feet to boost his height. I think they have plans for their own Grimlock at the end of the line after they have done Sludge.

If it's about Transformers it's never off track ;) lol

At the moment your best bet with the original MP Grimlock would be Fanstoys offerings, they are the closest in terms of scale at the moment
They are still a smidge bigger than MP Grimlock (hence the Frankenstein boots that shipped with Scoria to raise him up a bit) but close enough to not look too out of place.

Giga Powers version of Snarl is frankly massive & would look silly next to Grimlock

Bear in mind though both will be producing their own Grimlock to match up with the rest correctly so it's not such a huge deal.

The only thing I'd really consider is that Fans Toys already have 2 on the market with Snarl due soon too & Giga have only down Snarl & there is also the question over quality with the Giga offering as they are a new company whilst Fanstoys are well established.

I personally prefer the look of Giga's offering as he is huge & looks to be more in line scale wise with what we saw in the cartoons than FT's versions but I do like FT's as well.

Just go with what you prefer with a view that eventually you'll have a correct Grimlock to match with them.

Cheers guys, much appreciated!

No problems happy to help.

So, what's this that I hear about ratchet and ironhide as MPs? Really?

Pretty sure Ironhide & Ratchet are still speculation.

It came direct from the same source that called Tracks as being MP-25 so it could be true but until I see the Grey Proto pictures from Takara I'm not getting too excited...hoping it is true though :)

I'm a huge corvette fan so naturally I loved tracks but if they won't do a die-cast of this then it's a pass for me.

Just because something is diecast doesn't automatically make it better! Diecast should really only be used when needed from a design perspective (eg. to ensure stability). Adding diecast for no other reason really just makes for a heavy, expensive lump (eg. recent Toynami Voltron).

^^ lol

Such a random bot to make considering everyone is crying out for some Decepticons. Takara need to start listening to their customers.

Not sure why my comment was so amusing. It is my opinion that BT Yellow Tracks is far superior than the Alt blue one and die-cast has a part to play in that. Since I don't typically buy MPs anymore, if I were to bite on a character/vehicle that I have loved for many years, I'd much prefer it be die-cast. And since they don't make die-cast MPs then I will probably pass on this.

I'm sure they look at previous sales--particularly for Autobots--and are, in fact, listening to customers with the decisions they are making. Major toy companies aren't big on taking risks. If people are so outraged at the lack of Decepticons, then they should talk with their wallets and not order the Autobots.

Takara are being left behind by the third party companies who're prepared to make the figures most folk want.

If I had to guess I would say Takara MPs probably outsell comparable 3rd party figures by a wide margin. Creatively, I think the MPs are right there with boutique figures. Granted, I'm basing this mostly off photos. For me the difficulty is trying to decide what I want to focus on. There are just so many great options for TF fans right now.
