Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

“the second I began thinking about the story, about the logic, about the themes, about the character arcs, I began to feel disappointed. I’m glad that the movie works as it did, and I’ll probably see it twice more in theaters. But I’m worried that future viewings are only going to amplify these issues.“ - Jye

I totally agree. I think this movie, while fun and entertaining during the initial viewing, will not “age” well and be difficult to view multiple times, over and over in the years to come. Once the nostalgia wears off the plot holes and sloppy story telling will be hard to ignore.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

How do we know that Steve didn't change anything in the past timeline? We were told that whatever they do in the past will not change the future. If it was a simple as that they could of just gone back to when they fought Thanos on Wakanda and cut his head off rather than having Thor aim for the chest. But nothing they did would change their future, so the only option was to take the stones from the past, use them again in the future and return them to their past to balance the reality.

How would Peggy have married Steve Rogers and that not being an issue? She works for spies and they wouldn't be interested in how Captain America survived the war? We don't know the things that changed in this new past, but it wouldn't change anything in Cap's original timeline.

We know that changing the past won't change the future because Gamora leaves the 2014 timeline without meeting the Guardians at that point, and arrives in 2023. Quill and the others remember their whole life with her over the previous 4 years, but this Gamora never lived it. It didn't change their past at all.
Nebula even killed her past self and that has no effect on her current self.

Thanos and his crew all arrived from 2014 never acquiring any of the stones by that time, but that didn't change anything that happened between 2014 and 2023.

I do think it would have made more sense if Steve had come back in the time portal as an old man rather than already being there. It doesn't make sense that he could have lived in this same reality when history couldn't be changed in this reality.

I think the same thing will happen, but this seems to happen with the big box office earners. Same thing happened to Avatar and Titanic. Once this movie crosses 2 billion I'm sure we'll hear plenty of people saying it wasn't that good and shouldn't have earned that much.

Yeah I wonder about replay value.. The last hour will always be epic but you have to get by some pretty thin no stakes storytelling to get there Imo... Hope I am wrong though.

Avatar was never very good imo.. Titanic was the greatest Hallmark movie ever made :lol

I did like Titanic on first viewing but did not think it held up very well with second viewing and have never returned to it since.

I never cared for Avatar. 3D was cool but story and characters were.... meh

Endgame is better then both.

Title however should be changed to

Captain America: Endgame

That maybe your opinion but the consensus with the masses was these were amazing films. Titanic won 11 Oscars. Avatar showcased new 3D technology. I loved both of those movies and I also enjoyed Endgame. I don't love those movies as much as I did when they were released, but I still enjoy them. I will likely feel the same about Endgame after time goes by.

That wasn't jye, I think he just copied and pasted it from JAWS' Facebook page, lol.

JAWS pseudonym:

“Cap-Good Riddance”

:lol

Great review Jye.... Who was the author ?

It’s a secret lol

Just for the record while I do think it’s an incredibly well written piece from obviously a very passionate and well informed fan I actually don’t agree with their Cap and Stark resolution although I do agree that while the time travel hijinks we’re fun it could’ve been handled with better integration to those respective movies.

Have you watched your 4K Alien yet? The whole thing is gorgeous but certain scenes like the strobe light flashing on Ripley's face when she's heading to the shuttle was mind-bogglingly life-like looking.

Oooooh, I gotta watch it now. I haven't even cracked it open. I'll have to try it out. I have a small pile of unopened 4k.

Back on EG, I do think IW is more re-watchable than EG will be over time. EG has that long beginning to get through. Then the time travel gags might get a little boring, except the Cap-on-Cap. There's a lot of deliberate retread. But the whole finale will be endlessly watchable...

Of my favorites -- Avengers, TWS, GOTG and IW -- I'm still not sure where I'd place EG.
