Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Very clear on 2nd viewing that Bucky is in on the "passing the torch" to Sam. He says "I'll miss you" before Cap goes.....and then he tells Sam "go" as in go speak to Old Cap. He then gives a nod of approval at Cap giving him the shield.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

While I will still rate this movie a success there are 5 items that are super infuriating to me and collectively almost derailed the entire movie for me.

I will rate them from order of severity.

1. Is Marvel Studios mistreatment of the Hulk because Universal Studios will not relinquish control of him is that what’s going on here. I mean why else would Hulk’s IW arc NOT be fulfilled WHY! He lost BW and then put on the damn IW GAMMA gauntlet WHY WOULD THEY NOT CUT HIM LOOSE against Thanos and his army in super rage mode WHY MARVEL WHY!!!!!! It didn’t have to be World Breaker Hulk BUT at the very least let him have his freaking redemption from his IW beat down. Instead we get him throwing a stupid bench to showcase his rage, wut! That just hurts me to the freaking core our last chance of seeing Hulk BE HULK...wasted!!! WTF Marvel seriously WTF!
2. Bucky not being the person to speak with elderly Steve IT SHOULD’VE BEEN BUCKY BECAUSE IT ONLY MAKES FREAKING SENSE!!! What a freaking lost opportunity for an incredibly emotional scene! Fine give the shield to Falcon but only after Steve speaks with Bucky. Screw that the shield should’ve went to Bucky nuff said!
3. Dr. Strange 14 million:1 IW arc being relegated to the background instead of having proper relevance to Stark’s sacrifice.
4. Some characters like Bucky and WM completely wasted during the big battle...again! Yes i’m well aware there are dozens of characters but would it hurt to give each one a quick heroic moment similar to how BP was given one this time out.
5. Red Skull not having more to do and Steve not learning of Red Skull being alive and his connection to the stone.

Thankfully there were enough other epic moments to offset those 5 grievances for me.

Surprisingly Thor’s arc didn’t bother me at all it actually made sense and besides he’s had his heroic moments already quite a few of them to be exact.

Stark’s death was powerful and Cap was a serious bad ass and his arc was handled appropriately although I do have lingering questions about his time travel arc.

Grrr I wanted perfection or at the very least Hulk rage dammit!

Going again tonight lol

Can you imagine my Rage Jye.. I was even warned about
Hulk not going in rage mode.. But I did not expect to see him do absolutely nothing in the final battle.. **** the Russo's and their Hate for Hulk :lol

I cant believe that I waited for this.. I was forgiving of IW with the use of Hulk to see his comeback in this film.. Instead I get Gimp armed Professor hulk..

Hated what they did with Thor

Did not care for any of the time travel stuff..

IMO this was nowhere close to IW as a movie.. I did not find the film boring. I personally loved the first 1/2 hour and watching our hero's deal with the loss.. But then the time travel stuff happened..

Oh yeah.. And I figured we would see a hero vs themselves moment during that.. Thought it might have been Hulk vs Hulk.. Nope... Russo's Have a hard on for Cap but hate Hulk. They must hate Hulk.. No other explanation.. Though I did think the same thing you said about Universal and trying to make Hulk so pathetic that Uni will give up on him.

I understand your disappointment over Hulk not getting his chance to pummel Thanos, but he did have his super gamma powered hero moment - it just wasn't savage enough for you folks. He did step up, put on the gauntlet and snap his fingers, thereby bringing back half the life in the universe. Seems to me that was a significant victory, but I could be wrong. :lol

I think there is something to be said for that... But you have to deliver at least a little more at
the final battle.. He did nothing.. It was the ultimate slap in the face to see him come running out with a gimp arm.. Not one punch thrown.. WTF.

That was, in a word, stupendous. :thud:

Boys after my 2nd viewing i’ve come to this stone cold conclusion...

If you are primarily a Cap/IM fan this movie is for you.

If you are primarily a Hulk/Winter Soldier fan this movie is NOT for you.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I always feel bad being the Debbie Downer.. But I did not love this film.. Not even close. Dont get me wrong.. It had some great moments but overall this was not close to the best Marvel has to offer.

Granted I am
Furious over how they handled Hulk.. I didn't hate Professor Hulk and he did save half the Galaxy but he was given not one singe "wow" moment like just about ever other Hero got.. He was one of the originals.. Yet its Thor, IM, and CA that show up to confront Thanos.. Very frustrating as a Hulk fan. Unforgivable really.

I stated above that I did not enjoy the time travel stuff.. That took up way too much runtime..

I thought the film was going to go in a different direction when Thanos showed up and blew up the Avengers building but it kind of just went the traditional final battle ending.. Which was fine but I did not find this film to have any real surprises.

I did really like some things..

Aftermath of the snap.
Cap using Thor's Hammer
Thor Summoning both his Hammer and Ax
The overall look of the final battle was amazing.. I really felt like I was seeing a Marvel comic come to life.
"Avengers Assemble"
Scarlet Witch bringing the pain.
The final Battle as a whole.. Good stuff. Could have been great with just one ****ing hulk moment.

But it was not long or great enough to make up for the average time travel plot.

Also don't like the killing of Tony.. No reason for it really..

Predicted Cap would go back to the past and live his life.. Which was cool... Don't think I liked him showing up and talking to Sam and Not Bucky.. What's up with that.

3 out of 5... Maybe... I want to give it a 2.5 out of 5 but feel my Hulk fandom is taking over too much maybe..

Oh well

Please Godzilla.. Make my inner child happy this summer.

Fixed.

Ya know I went into this thinking it was more of a Civil War sequel..

I have fallen in love with Cap in these films. So that was all great.

The way they handled Hulk was unforgivable.

Thor was not all bad but.. It went on for far too long.

I love Bucky but nobody should expect Bucky to get much to do in these Avengers films.. IMO anyways..

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

AND NOW! Xipo’s spoilerific review of Avengers: Endgame!!!

Avengers : Endgame 9/10
Rewatchability 8/10

An so it ends, as it should have. Tonys arc is complete, and he finally learns what his father admitted was his own failing, to care more about mankind than his own desires.

Overall impressions.

Best moments:
Seeing Hawkeye get his place as the Avenger he was supposed to be.
Seeing his fall and subsequent save was very fulfilling for this Hawkeye fan

Best scene by far Cap finally getting that hammer....they delivered in spades that scene. We were in A VERY lively audience and the cheers went ip during that scene (and many others)

The return of the snapped “Assemble” scene, really amazing.

Tony reuniting with Peter.

Tony re affirming he IS Iron Man.

I LOVED the short all girl team up, very very cool. I thought we might have a few stroke victims in the forums here with CM’s part in all of this....thankfully they pulled back from the abyss for those guys....

Dr Stranges Finger gesture.....thats a meme waiting to happen.

The set up in the beginning was suppose to be quiet and slow. The point was to see how the snap had screwed everyone up....perfectly done.

“On your Left” LOL

I actually thought the value of the Thor arc was to show how screwed up he was from all the death he has witnessed. The whole Lebowski vibe was only paid off seeing him get crushed when hearing Thanos mentioned.

Cap, was done perfectly. We got to see him get the life he deserved. Poignant to see a soldier goto the ultimate war, and still come home to his sweetheart.

Hulk was basically comic relief....sorry Hulk fans.....

I also really like the duality between BW and Hawkeye as to who would save whom. Given their history, its was a touching thing to see the cnmtinue to try to save each other.....and BW final bill was paid to save Clint.

“Hail Hydra”LOL

Amazed to see Natalie Portman again....what they pay her???

It was also nice to see that the touched back on just about every film, and the end tribute to the original Avengers during the credits was a nice final touch. Only after seeing all those amazing talents in the credits, do you realize how many big names have been involved in this.

Some really amazing cinema moments, had a great audience to view it with.

BTW You all realize the real hero of Endgame was right?

It was the Rat.....without the rat , allowing Scott to come back, none of the rest of the story could have happened.

Avengers Assemble was its own reward.

Ok fine i’ll give you Bucky to a certain extent.

I had no problem with bummed out Thor it didn’t feel forced and besides he’s had 6 movies being cocky and confident it was only natural to show him despondent after losing his parents, brother, Asgard, learning he had a sister and she was evil and then not stopping the snap due to vengeful arrogance.

I’m a fat drunk without those problems lol

:lol :lol

I was fine with Thor.. At first.. It just went on a bit too long.. BUT you make a good point.. Did any Avenger loose as much as he did? Halkeye did but I don't think anyone else came close.. I don't know.. Film was a downer already with events of last film and what happens in the end.. Guess I didn't need Thor being so down for so long.

Anyways I just finished my Countdown to Avengers thread.. Ranked the films.. And thinking back about them all.. I am officially depressed.. :lol

11 years of this and its over..

Sure there will be more.. But
No more Cap and no more Tony.. That is a lot to take.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Hulk did important things (snapping everyone back to life, holding up the underground mountain like he did in the Secret Wars comic) but he didn't do "cool" things. That was unexpected and I believe that makes him the one single Avenger who didn't have a huge moment in either IW or AEG. I actually thought of JAWS afterward and wondered how upset he'd be. Sorry that this film didn't deliver for you man.

Because for me that was one of the most exhilarating and profoundly satisfying cinematic experiences I've had in my adult life. I must have had the perfect crowd too, the energy of a sold out IMAX auditorium laughing, sobbing, and cheering many times over will forever be a part of me. This film gave me what a lot of you experienced with the original Avengers (though even more I would imagine with all the tear-jerking moments whether they be sad tears or happy tears.)

After the TROS and Mandalorian previews I even had the slightest sense of "can we just get the MCU over with" beforehand but now to say that I'm blown away couldn't be a bigger understatement. So many things that have been building up, so many "best case scenarios" with regard to what the Russos would deliver, and for me they damn well hit pretty much every single one.

I can see as a big Cap fan why you would be happy. I had other issues besides Hulk but Cap was not one of them.

Yep, you don't get better Cap moments and the end to an 8 year arc than this. :thud:

Bummer for you though, especially with this one being the capstone (oh wow what a hilarious pun, I'm honestly not trying to rub it in, lol) to all that came before.

TFA/TA/TWS/CW/IW/AEG.

I can't even put into words how blown away I'm am that my favorite superhero will forever have these six films.

Yep.. Gonna be tuff for any character to beat that..

Does my heart good to see you have The Avengers in there now :)

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Aw man just read jye's comments reflecting your same sentiments. It really is pretty shocking. Did Hulk sleep with Feige's daughter or something, lol. If I thought that there was one certainty after IW it was that

Banner actually CHANGING into Hulk at the most epic moment possible would have been an absolute given!

Sorry guys, if I were in your shoes I know I'd feel the exact same way.

And you're right jye, they really did circle back on every imaginable character to close old loops except for

poor Liv Tyler.

How can I not, *especially* with the thing I hate most from that movie (Cap's suit) being the literal "butt" of AEG's jokes, lol. ;)

I must say that the extended curtain calls of every MCU character was executed flawlessly. Much more elegantly than the multiple endings of ROTK.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

One thing I will say...

That shot of a beat up Cap holding his broken shield facing Thanos and his army has to be my single most favorite shot in all of the MCU.

Alone yet defiantly standing his ground.
