Re: Batgirl - Written, Directed and Produced by Joss Whedon

I thought Leto was alright. He was probably my favorite thing in the movie.

Hopefully he'll get a chance to shine in another movie or somethin'.

Re: Batgirl - Written, Directed and Produced by Joss Whedon

i was under the impression that he was talking about style, but hey if he wants an italian singer to star in a full length batman on ice feature film, i'd watch that too.

letoker gets a lot of hate, sure if you don't like him that's fine. but i think with more time then 6 weeks to write the character, and a different director can really make a good flick with letoker.

I fail to see how gold chains and tats looking like some coked up, juggalo Les Grossman is the same style as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I guess I must've really misjudged those guys. I mean, hell, now that you mention it, I can't believe I forgot that time Sammy Davis Junior rolled up in a purple Alligator Trenchcoat and his boxer shorts.

so over exaggerated. :lol

it's not the 50s anymore, but you can still look dapper in sharp suits and straight pants.... like those old school cool dudes.
now, ask yourself- what does a gangster look like today?

oh yeah tats and chains.

you described one look (the briefest shown of them all in the movie.)

point is those guys were known for flashy suits, and flashy cars, well besides their talent obviously, and for the ten minutes of letoker we have, that's what we got. i'm not saying he's the end all be all joker, but at least let him have a stab at the character instead of just a cameo.

awnser me this batfan, do you listen to 2 songs off an entire album and label it **** before finishing the whole thing?

also, if you've lived your entire life thinking frankie and dean weren't coked out of their mind the entire time they were at the top then i guess you just don't pay much attention to things. :lol

I was talking about the overall style. The hat, the old-timey suits, the whole package. Not just taking the "idead" of Sinatra/Martin and updating it to fit the modern "gangster". The Joker should be an old-timey dude, dressed in old-timey clothes. Something like this:

tec_826_003.png

It's a Christmas tale from Detective #826. Joker takes Tim for a hit n'run, and Robin distracts him by mentioning the classics. IMO, that's who Joker should be. Not a juggalo, not a slasher, but a sharp-dressed, elegant and formal man with a wicked face, and the capacity for all that. IMO, always. But Letoker != Sinatra/Martin/etc Joker.

And besides, the Joker never got an origin. He could be a "Siciliano". That's the vibe I got from him before the slasher persona took over.

Also, Letoker is just a pretender. He's a metrosexual thug trying to be a mix of Snyder and Azzarello's Jokers, and failing at both. He's not a scary slasher, a hardass gangster or a dapper crime-master. He's a thug, plain and simple. IMO anyway.

Do you think The Joker should feel fear?

I'm against it most of the time. This was funny though.

3:18 when Ace (ironic) mind **** him :lol

I think the Joker's lack of fear in TDK is great because that's Batman's main weapon against criminals, but now he's come across someone he can't intimidate of scare, so he becomes powerless, and as a result he has to change his approach.

Honestly... yeah. If you want to turn the Joker into this "myth", just go with the Gelos origin. Like I said, I like the 3 Jokers thing, because you can get all the best versions. the Practical-Joker, the God-Slasher and the Nihilist-Hypersane. To be honest, I'd say Morrison came close to that, but crossed over to Slasher territory.

I fail to see how gold chains and tats looking like some coked up, juggalo Les Grossman is the same style as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I guess I must've really misjudged those guys. Re: Batgirl - Written, Directed and Produced by Joss Whedon

I just really hate his style. I hate his attitude. I don't recall joker buying clubs, living in fancy houses and things of the like. I see him as a crazed lunatic who has all this money but chooses to live in abandoned amusement parks and spend his money on silly items. Also the tats are just so ****ing stupid

Re: Batgirl - Written, Directed and Produced by Joss Whedon

We have to stop the myth that jared leto is a good actor. He isnt.
The roles before the joker were nothing groundbreaking.
Even the trans role was just him being a softer friendlier himself. In fight club he didnt even have much lines.

Leto is never been a full time actor neither, his real full time career is rock star with his rock band.

while i don't completely agree i do see where you are coming from, but the old suits- the dapper vests and button down long sleeves that those guys wear is what letoker wears. sure he has one insane outfit, but the other 8 minutes of screen time he's in a tux or a vest and tie. that's old school gangster, and classic joker style. i don't see how you're not seeing that.

Oh yeah, the tux look which made DCists everywhere scream "it's Endgame Joker, based Ayer". Nah, Letoker ain't Sinatra. He doesn't have the mannerisms, the class or the charisma. He's a tatted thug that pretends to be a psycho. Mother****ing Barracuda would tear up his white boy ***** and skull**** him.

Gee, dunno, maybe not go with a tatted-up guy who dances on the laps of guards and says things like "u don't wan' no beef"? Maybe either stick with the slasher or jokester personalities? Maybe not give us that weird mix that tries to pass off as faithful while being ****e? I mean, some people also liked "The Batman"'s Joker...

I mean, I get it, you like Letoker, but let's not pretend he's a faithful adaptation of any version, or that he's close to Sinatra. It's okay and valid to like Letoker, but it's a personal opinion that at least I, don't share. He sucks ass, has no redeeming qualities and is Leto just wasting his potential.

wow, this post is just one big

at first you're saying he didn't dress like those guys, and that's why you don't like him. now it's his personality? cmon! :lol you want a joker with a personality of Sinatra? that's miles away from anything close to Joker! But to say he's not based off of anything is utterly ridiculous. you just said yourself he looks like endgame joker! :slap

not too mention you're basing this off of 10 minutes. 10 minutes of screen time. you act as tho you've seen an entire flick with Letoker. SS was so crammed to begin with, we barely got him. (and the extra scenes they added to the EC shows he does have the chops to play a decent, if not good joker.)

ill ask the same question i did to batfan, did you only listen to "any color you like" and "speak to me" off of DSOTM and decide it was a terrible album?

give him a chance. if anything you all want Jack back, (that would be awesome) but i'd guarantee the same people bitching about Letoker would ***** about that or anything close. "same rehashed garbage!" "should have done it when he was younger!" "nothing will capture the magic of 89 Jack!". want proof? look at the disney-wars threads.

Re: Batgirl - Written, Directed and Produced by Joss Whedon

I said that he both didn't have style or that 50s feel. I mean, it's pretty obvious I'm referring to the old school Joker with the long coat, hat and Jokerized fish. It's why I posted that pic from DC826 where he talks about the Marx Brothers. Besides, that's my own, personal view of the character. And I never said he looked like Endgame Joker, only that the DCists on the 'net did. Either way, you apparently liked Letoker, and that's all fine and dandy. I didn't. He was neither a faithful adaptation nor an innovative spin. Letoker was the equilavent of Doctor Bob Von Doom. A pale imitation and nothing more. The difference is, DBVD was satire... Hell, Letoker has more in common with Professor Pyg and Flamingo rather than the Joker.

I think I made it more than clear that he's a failed attempt at (probably) mixing multiple versions together. So yeah, that doesn't constitute "based on" in my book. I just mentioned the ones that are the closest to him, but it still doesn't add up. Snyder Joker was a complete slasher maniac. Azz's Joker was a gangster who raped his henchmen's GFs and skinned people. Morrison's was a "hypersane" nihilist. Letoker was a run of the mill modernization that amounted to **** all.

'Sides, just let it slide. Some of us just didn't like Letoker, and no amount of analysis is going to change my mind. I'm just sharing my ideal Joker version, and was talking about the various comic book versions. I couldn't care less about a glorified cameo in a ****** flick...

I didn't like Letoker and that's all I'll say, really. I don't care enough to debate that waste of screen time...

Re: Batgirl - Written, Directed and Produced by Joss Whedon

That's fine and dandy if you don't like him, but at least come up with more of a sound argument then "not mah j0kA" or some ******** excuse that he's not ripped from many different versions that we've seen of the joker in the books. but i digress, and agree to disagree. also i'm not trying to win you over, i'm just stating my thoughts as well. but to me, this is about as Joker as one could hope for in a flick:

that's what's great about these characters, they're always re written and revamped which keeps things fresh.

Holy Cow Batman, I didn't know we could have "****** opinions" for liking or not liking things! Like, am I allowed to dislike the taste of garlic? Or is that a "******** excuse" or something? Am I allowed to find Moon Knight more interesting than Batman? Am I allowed to like the New Gods more than the Asgardians? I gotta know man, tell me how to form opinions that aren't ******!

Sure that ONE clip looked alright..... since the only thing hes doing is lauging.

Everything else was garbage. He acted like james franco in that weird rapper role.

Take away the suit and you still get this:

Might as well hire marilyn manson to play two face next.......

Get an edgy millenial suicidal two face with manson while youre at it

Hire rapper pitbull to play the riddler. Add a little latino spice to the mix.
Why not, lets get edgy.

i didn't say you couldn't like him just because you don't that's fine. i'm talking about blaming it on him not being based off of the different versions of the joker we've seen. that's a ******** excuse and completely wrong. you know it, search your feelings.

-He's not 40s Joker.
-He's not Classic Joker.
-He's not Morrison/Azz/Snyder Joker.
-He's not even Arkham or DCAU Joker.
-He's not an interesting spin on the character.

Personal Conclusion: He ****ing sucks.

And my opinion, along with my reasons are as valid as any.
