That's just lighting reflections and the exposure on the photograph.

I remember some of the publicity shots and posters having silver though...

Sallah

Keep in mind that the car in one of the films was painted in color shifting paint that shifted from a dark purple to green effect.

Yeah they are supposed to be black if you are talking about the Returns version of the car.

Fixed. But if Hot Toys was going for the Returns look, they'd have painted the side air scoops black as well, the whole car with a slightly glossier finish, and added the windshield wipers. It's branded as the 1989 Batmobile--with the inclusion of some Returns gadgets--but "buttoned up" with all hatches closed and all features put away, it most resembles the 89 look.

And in Batman '89 the rims definitely were NOT painted black. They weren't bright clean sparkling silver either, but somewhere between that and a weathered gunmetal look. Also since they are deep dish wheels, they're bathed in shadow in most shots, making them appear darker. A dead giveway is that there isn't a great contrast between the color of the Bat center caps and the rest of the rim. In Batman Returns, the black painted rims heavily contrast against the silver Bat center caps. Hot Toys got the look down well. In the film the car isn't as brightly lit as in collectors' photos here.

Jedster, any shots of it with your Toynami?

Well I have some more positive reports on the scratch situation.

My buddy owns a local shop and I brought the whole QC situation to his attention (since he's not really on the forums). He told me to come down and help him inspect his stock (8 pieces) since I knew what to look for.

We looked over 6 out of the 8 that he has and all six pieces are scratch free :yess: (in addition to the one that I bought from him; so thus far he's 7 for 7 with 2 more to check).

He thinks it's because he had them delivered by DHL and they split the load onto two pallets and shrink wrapped the whole ball of wax. Maybe there was less or no movement on the inside because of this and the ones that are being shipped around individually by other etailers are being handled with less care.

Who knows, but he's a lucky SOB and so am I :lol

More pics....

Nice. You've got the two largest scales of HQ representations of the 89 Batmobile (the powerwheels version doesn't count :lol) I don't have the Toynami, but I plan to take a picture of all the 1989 Batmobiles I own from the 1/64 die cast to the 1/6 Hot Toys and several scales in between. Just too much effort to lay them all out properly for a decent shot now.

Thank you. :)

Hey all, for those that have this, does yours have like a body crease near the rear wings? Just before the slits start on the wings? I've seen it on other people's and mine has it, just want to be sure it's designed like that.

Seeing the gamut of damages to these cars leads me to think it is not all from shipping. Looking at the large burnished area on my canopy and the one small scratch on my car I just don't think the cocoon could be responsible. All my interior foam is present and for something to compress the foam far enough for the cocoon to contact the car would most surely have cracked the fragile vacuformed cocoon shell. Or at least creased it. Not to mention having to create enough force to compress the brown shipper box, display box, AND the interior Styrofoam which should have been broken or at least cracked. My boxes, Styrofoam, and everything else arrived PERFECT! More perfect than the actual car! I still tend to favor the idea that there is some kind of production issue going on here. Not knowing squat about toy production I have no idea how long these things have when they come out of the mold, or if the paint/ finish needs to cure or harden. I may be completely off base but it's just food for thought. I'm still hoping someone here with overseas connections can verify exactly what kind of finish we're dealing with here, whether paint, clearcoat, or bare plastic.
