Nu-Star Wars doesn't seem to fair well mixing old characters with new ones. One of the reasons for Mando's success was because it was it's own thing.

There's no "backlash" anymore when you can pay some internet journos to spam your narrative in the web-sphere. They'll do whatever they want and that'll be it. I've long since stopped caring. I'm just in it for some dolls and to see how low it can all go. If something turns out good enough, cool. If not... eh. SW wise, I'm looking forward to the videogames the most. There's quite a few in development and they could be fun, while also not ruining any established characters with NuCanon.
FTFYNu-Star Wars doesn't seem to fair well
I've taken that approach with all pop culture. SW is something very easy to keep up with as new film/tv content is minimal, but even then I just read Darth Vader, and check out the High Republic comics every once in a while. All the books and other OT comics and whatnot, I don't even know what's going on there (unless it's an event that ties-into Vader). The games I judge on a case-by-case basis. Another example, X-Men, I follow every week, but just skim through them unless they're the two books I pull. And so on and so forth.Yes I'm trying to take a similar approach. I'm going to watch the stuff that interests me (which isn't everything with a Star Wars sticker on it anymore) and collect the figures that I like.
Aside from discussing figures on this site, I think I'll stay clear of the rest of the fandom and social media. Ignore the Internet journos, they just stir the poop.
I agree. I cannot be bothered to get offended or wonder about some kind of culture war nonsense while watching my entertainment.FTFY

Past a certain age pop culture just becomes too boring to be even popcorn entertainment. It's the few favourites that keep me coming back to certain things. And that affects collecting too, as I grow increasingly tired of the whole game and want to see the end at some point.
Excellent post.I agree. I cannot be bothered to get offended or wonder about some kind of culture war nonsense while watching my entertainment.
As a full time professional, father, husband etc etc, the rare time I do get to sit sown and watch a show or movie, all I care about was if it was entertaining. So , basically everything Disney has put at fits the bill. I like most of the content, but then again, i am not looking to “not” like it or try to attach some deeper meaning to it…..just entertainment.
I have said this before, on this very forum, people attach way too much of their identity to pop culture, films , books, sports teams…..
As you age you do realize, entertainment is just that…it not an identity, its not a political stance or ideology…

Exactly. It’s all a revolving door of cliches with decisions made by disinterested suits. I can lament the wasted potential, but I’m tired of caring. I’ll get a cool doll, I’ll discuss a cool bit, I’ll have some fun ranting about some nonsense, but that’s all it is; fast food entertainment.I agree. The last Disney thing I thoroughly enjoyed was… Tron Legacy. Yeah, that’s it. The MCU was always just “there” for me. I had my books, until synergy started ruining them, so I looked at it as a cool AU that gave me more chances for toys and collectibles. It’s not how I’d have handled any of the characters in movie adaptations, but it’s okay. Ultimately my point is that like yourself, I’m not looking for much more, and I’ve extended that across the entirety of pop culture. Some such products rise above it, yes, but they’re very few in numbers.Don’t get me wrong, there has been some great cinema in the past few years, in terms of art, acting and story…..
Blade Runner 2049
Fury Road
Dune
Are the last few Sci Fi that for me transcended from Pop to art.
But thats the rare treat, and most of the things Disney puts out is not going to hit that high mark, especially live action. Their animation is always above par, and frequently makes the level of greatness.
For me the last great Disney films were;
Frozen
Monsters Inc.
Honorable mention the How to Train a Dragon, just cause its not Disney.
Like girls like Terminator. That's the audience that needs to be tapped for this sort of thing.
Cameron suffers from "Titanicitis".
EX-CUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME, many women enjoy the Terminator franchise.
Now anything after Salvation, for me personally, no. But yes we are out here.
Genisys is one of my ten worst films of all time. If i could consign every last copy to the Infernal Abyss, I would.
So you liked Salvation? I've never understood the hate for Salvation. Seems like the Bale outburst and a Jonathan Nolan rewrite was the start of some deep hatred before the movie even released. Now anything after Salvation, for me personally, no. But yes we are out here.

When I wrote that the thought popped in the back of my mind -- what will Ramatuelle say?
You are few and far between, you do know that?

What was it?Still mad they didnt use the original ending, though. That would have elevated this film to Classic status.
As you may recall, the film ends with Terminator Marcus on an ersatz outside operating table, about to donate his heart to John Connor. We will leave for another day the idea of performing a heart transplant outside: maybe it was a lighting issue. Anyhoo, Marcus has learned more about being human and his decision to save Connor was a voluntary one. Connor's wife was the surgeon. What was it?
Yeah. It feels like the more Mando focuses on callbacks and classic characters, the weaker/ more hokey it feels. Season one of Mando is awesome. Season two is alright, but it feels a more like a launching pad for spinoffs rather than a solid, contained story. That BOBF episode about Mando training with the dark saber and getting exiled from the Mandalorians was great - it felt like season one Mando.Nu-Star Wars doesn't seem to fair well mixing old characters with new ones.
