Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

okay, I bailed on this line after Gandalf arrived at my door. Not because I didn't like them, both Aragorn and Gandalf look fantastic, but I just don't know if I should start up another line.

Every time I see the Boromir product page I want to click thru and order, but I know once that happens, I'm all in.

I felt the same way and had resisted ordering anything until just a couple days ago.

I started with SS/Weta pieces - though because I started late, many pieces I wanted were out of my price range and to be honest I wasn't all that impressed with some of them.

Then I started with the PFs...and the figures....hoping to get a full Fellowship.

I really resisted this line...not wanting to start something and not have a Fellowship set completed. But they are cranking out some impressive pieces - better than I had expected - with great sculpts and interesting poses. And if they do a Mouth of Sauron...man...even though I'm trying to be selective and stick only with Fellowship members...I probably won't be able to resist that one. I am actually feeling confident that this line will carry on and I'll have a complete Fellowship at some point. *fingers crossed*

Now my problem is $$ and space. :lol And do I sell many other pieces in my collection to make way for this new line. :gah:

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Except I would want to see a basic Ringwraith, Morgul Lord, Saruman, Sauron, Wormtongue, Lurtz, Gothmog and others before the Mouth of Sauron. He's way too far down on my list of important characters.

First and foremost, they need to complete the Fellowship. Then people will know the line is "safe" and the fan base will grow and support secondary and tertiary characters like the Mouth.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

While I want a complete fellowship as much as the next collector, the LOTR universe is so full of interesting characters, both bad and good, that I won't stop at just the fellowship.

Jen, I agree, a Mouth of Sauron piece would be awesome.

Thanks to all you people who have now talked me back into this line. :hi5:

I love and hate it all at the same time.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

I am sure I'll collect some baddies too. :) Just depends on how many they end up cranking out per quarter and what I can afford.

I do really love the SS/Weta Morgul Lord statue. That has a great pose and hopefully won't look too out of place with this maquette line. A Saruman would be great. I LOVE the Aragorn and Lurtz PFs so much.....I'm not sure if I'll get the maquette if they do one of Lurtz...but if they knock it out of the park, I may be tempted.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

For years LOTR collectors have implored SS to 'complete the fellowship' and after ensuring the 1st 5 maquettes produced were fellowship members I think it safe to say SS has heard us loud and clear. To those still not convinced as to SS's commitment to completing the fellowship, then by all means hold off until the fellowship is completed. But good luck to those who do so and then expect to find some of these initial fellowship maquettes at reasonable prices. As time goes by, and with excl. versions numbered between 350-550 it is going to be harder and harder to find some of these 1st 5 maquettes....esp. at half decent prices. And I suspect that anyone holding off now is certainly not going to jump on the bandwagon a year or so from now when some of these current fellowship maquettes are fetching a good secondary price.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Yeah, I think we can put the fears to bed as far as not getting the Fellowship. Now, I think we can turn our focus to getting characters like Eomer, Faramir, Mouth of Sauron, etc that have basically had little to no representation in any LOTR line over the last decade. Thats one of the exciting things for me having had virtually every statue in the SSW line at one point is getting some characters I've never had before and revisiting old friends.

I have a friend that was always disappointed that he never got into the SSW line when the prices were at retail levels. When Sideshow started to release some information about this new line, I let him know he had a second chance, and he passed again!:cuckoo:

When I have Gimli and Legolas next to Gandalf and Aragorn by Christmas, he'll be kicking himself again.

My dilemma now is to decide which line to continue with more completely. I have been collecting the Premium Format line, and I love the collection thus far, but after they make yet to be announced Boromir, Gimli, Sam, Merry and Pippin, as well as the already suggested/hinted/confirmed Sauron, Saruman, and Ringwraith on Steed, I don't know how many more "core" characters will be better represented as Premium Formats. Eowyn? Arwen? Elrond? Bilbo? I see so much more opportunity for greater depth in the Maquette line, but it is time for Sideshow to move back towards the heroes of Middle-Earth for the Premium Format line.

I think that I can finish my Premium Format line with what has been announced and the rest of the fellowship, and then expand the maquette collection much further as time goes on.

I love both lines and thankfully I don't have to decide between one or the other, but if I had to chose one it would be the maquettes for me. The quality of every single maquette so far has been outstanding [something that, IMO you cannot say about every PF], they're being produced about 3X faster than the PF's, and at the end of the day the maquette line will be much more complete and expansive.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

I don't have to choose (yet) but if the maquette line is going to continue to be this awesome, and at four releases per year, space is going to be a very real concern at some point soon.

I may not be able to display the whole collection for a while, but I will try to keep up with both. I just feel like we have gotten a decent representation of baddies in PF, and hopefully Sideshow continues to develop the complete Fellowship, but after that, I could be okay getting some of the other secondary and tertiary characters in the Maquette format.

We have been quite spolied with the new releases for the maquettes and the teases for the PF line (Sauron and RWOS), but I can't wait to see more news on both fronts!! I would love to see a production video for both lines sometime during SDCC!

No kidding. I'm dying to see some of SS's conceptual artwork covering both the PF and maquettes lines and I fully expect we will see a LOTR prod. video sometime during SDCC....just like last year. :)

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Was it around this time last year that they made some teaser videos of the maquette line? If anything they haven't mentioned what's in their pipeline for LOTR maquettes, other than what's already known (recall that Arwen, Boromir, and PEW were already in the teaser vid from last year). So . . .I'd like to see some new teasers to tide me past comic-con 2012!

As for collecting, note that 2 maquettes can fit where a PF was, and the height will not be a problem. The cool thing about LOTR characters, is their clothes were so rich and layered, that a PF treatment wouldn't be a bad deal. Where it becomes a problem is the choice of poses. For the record, I dont have any plans on getting the Sauron PF nor the RWOS PF . . .The space constraints are simply too difficult to handle.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

It's one reason I didn't get the Morgul Lord PF. The SS/W representation beats it hands-down. And they just made poor choices on the pose, and equipment (the flaming sword looked pathetic and felt last-minute).

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Did you say expansive? I read expensive! :rotfl

I hear that!!! I love this stuff, and I have cut out almost all of my other vices and collecting in the last five years, but this is still a lot of money spent on non-essentials.

I guess finding a second job could be an option!:rotfl

That video was revealed during last year's SDCC and it featured a rehash of the conceptual artwork of first 6 maquettes [which we'd already seen during ToyFair 2010] though it did provide us with our first glimpse of the Legolas and Gimli maquette exclusives. It also gave us our first sneak peeks of the Mordor Orc and Gollum PF's. As for the Prologue Elven warrior, he's never been mentioned by SS or seen in any video. Our sneak peek of him is found at the back of the 2011 SS calendar. It is because of that conceptual drawing that we know the PEW is coming and SS has made mention that Faramir, Eomer, and the Mouth of Sauron are not far off.

I have yet to see any statue version of the ML I would categorize as remotely awe-inspiring or iconic. I think I'm going to wait and see what SS does in the form of a maquette before I start throwing those terms around. :wink1:

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

The SSW piece I do think set the bar pretty high as far as this character goes. I'll be very curious to see what SS does with it and am very much looking forward to it thats for sure.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Well, I have room for about 16 of these in my display cabinet, so I have a while to wait before I have to worry too much about space. And if they do about four a year, I'll just mentally figure that I have $100 a month going to Sideshow from now until at least early 2015.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Tom,

That became my monthly budget for Sideshow, and with Flexpay, I just have set aside a little over 75$ per month for the maquettes. I can't imagine where we might be 16 releases down the line!
