Does anyone really care about this series of films? A whole new generation has come and gone by the time this makes it to the theaters.

People are not expecting them just like they did not expected the first one or Titanic.
But Cameron is not a one trick pony.
Hes gonna do it again.
And show again how action is done right.

So how is Avatar 2 coming along? Obviously the first one is the all-time box office champ, so the bar is set pretty high here.

The thing is, my focus isn’t on Avatar 2. My focus is on Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5equally. That’s exactly how I’m approaching it. They’ve all been developed equally. I’ve just finished the script to Avatar 5. I’m now starting the process of active prep. I’ll be working with the actors in the capture volume in August, so I’m booked in production every day between now and then. Our volume is up and running, and everything is designed, and so we’re going full-guns right now. I feel like I’ve been let out of jail, because I’ve been in the writing cave for the last two years. I’m actually enjoying life. I don’t enjoy writing. I wouldn’t wish writing on a dog.

Strong chance it will bomb- he is due for a dud after two decades- I just don't see the massive business built into a sequel- but three more? really ? I don't get it. 2 better be awesome beyond words to hook you for three more

The avatar universe is the perfect playfield for Cameron sci-fi.
Now that the bases are set, Cameron will go wild.
And nobody does sci-fi action like him.

Jupiter Ascending failed to kickstart a franchise and with LOTR/Potter/Narnia all done apparently Disney is all we've got for the time being.

Avatar did super well, not because it was a particularly good movie, but because it was one of the first movies to fully realize the use of the 3d technology. That tech is now pretty much old hat. So Avatar 2 better come through with a good story, because I don't think the 3d gimmick is going to push this one along like the first one. But only time will tell. If he even gets the movie done.
