Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Just rewatched the trailer, and as I predicted/feared, there is not at any point, in any battle, a single, regular looking, german wermacht infantry soldier. Not even one non nazi regular uniformed german soldier.

Everyone is in a Hydra Gi Joe costume.

Add to this not a single real german weapon, no MP40, MP44, not a K98, an Mg34, nothing, they all have space laser looking things. This is going to be GI Joe 2.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

one thing that makes me feel kinda meh.. is that I feel like the story seems a bit narrow...

He trains for the army. Gets super-soldierized. Goes on USO tour. Unexpectedly ends up in a fight. Gets a suit. Battles in the forest. Before assaulting Red Skull compound. Movie ends.

I hope they're saving something for me. Looking forward to the trailer.

Felt short even for 30 seconds. Not that that's stopped some of you from giving in-depth impressions. :lol

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Things that stood out for me.

Tommy Lee Jones looked really out of place.

The action seemed a bit underwhelming. Nothing grandois like taking Normandy beach. In fact that running around the woods battle gave me more of a Pan's Labrynth feal then war movie.

The Flame Thrower War machine looking nazis.

Cap acting like a bit of a _____ the way he hid behind his shield. I dont know exactly how to explain it, but like in Star Wars, when a jedi gets shot at, he just stands there, puts his saber in front of him, moves it where it needs to block the lasers and doesn't think twice about it. Cap looked more like he was cowering behind his shield.

If you were given a piece of unproven equipment how would you react if someone was shooting at you? :lol

I think natural instinct when someone shoots at you is to duck behind the shield. Give him some time as Captain America to build reflexes where he doesn't do that.

Seriously, Tommy Lee Jones looks awkward and out of place in a blink and you miss his spot in the trailer?

I think alot of you have decided to hate this movie no matter what. That's fine, it's your prerogative.

I won't lie, I have hated all of what I've heard since the announcements of Joe and Chris Evans. So from this point, they have to prove to me this movie won't suck. Nothing so far has done that. Because frankly, Joe is a washed up hack. I was hoping the images of the GI JOE crap we saw were confined to just that scene. Like the quick scene in Rocketeer where we see Super Rocket Nazis.

But instead all I've seen is the inability to take any risks or have any balls, to honor the origins of the character or his country, and the rewriting/rebranding of actual history to not offend all of these jerk off politically correct, I don't want my Justin Beiber child to know nazis were real, yuppies who have never in any way supported Captain America before anyway.

And they say Internet fans are angry....!

This is the one I am most curious about out of the Marvel controlled movies, so day one for me

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

We may not know it for sure that there are not Nazis, but it seems pretty unlikely.

Deckard, those are actually reasonable points and I share many of your concerns. I think some of the other criticisms people are leveling stem from those same things, but sound completely silly.

I agree emphatically.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Are we for sure there will be no Nazis in this?

Maybe a quick throw away scene of reg. nazis being afraid of the Skull or the Skull killing some nazis trying to hold his "leash".
But we might not even get that.
