I disagree ( at least with the first part of your post ) , although "Chronicles.." failed to find an audience , it was a brave attempt to make a S.F film which was unashamedly that and not a comedy/action/western DISGUISED as S.F , like most of todays blockbusters . Yes it was big , overblown and more than a little pompous , but it was like an S.F novel put on the screen . The trailer for the new movie does indeed look excellent , but my only concern is that with the pressure to repeat the "formula" of Pitch Black , it might end up as just a "remake " or "reboot" . I personally would have liked to have seen the story continue . Either way , more Riddick is more than welcome and I can't wait for the new film ! :yess:

I think the biggest problem Chronicles had was that it was so jarringly different from Pitch Black. Some franchises can pull off that sub genre switch and do it well (Alien ---> Aliens) but I think Chronicles could have been better served by being later in the series. It felt like too much too fast.

Dude, Daredevil was better than Man of Steel

Twohy wrote an AvP movie, which i've yet to read. It's closer to the comics.

Sad thing is, those awesome Dark Horse Alien/Predator comics from the early 90's have way better characters and stories than hollywood writers are writing these days for new Alien/Pred movies. Writers should be using those comics as references.

Ok, I'll give you that one!!!! :goodpost:

Saw this movie today, and enjoyed it. Felt a little too similar to Pitch Black in some ways, but a helluva lot of fun and after a decade hiatus, was exactly what I had hoped for! Bring on more!

Just got back from seeing it. I actually thought it was the worst of the three.

I thought the first was the best of course and I think the 2nd was a nice change of pace. Both films Riddick was basically the same character.

Even though this third one was rated R and had nudity and blood I felt it was almost the one mostly for kids. The plot was the most basic. There was the funny cuddly animal sidekick, Riddick's Body count was down, and the monsters in it were not scary at all. If Riddick was not one of my fav. Modern characters I would not have given this film a second thought.

Oh Well. I still liked it because of Riddick. Oh and Battlestar G ****s :)

Hopefully checking this out in the morning, was wanting to see it, but now that I know Katie gives a show I'm definitely ready to go see it. :yess:

Was glad you realized I was joking, after I logged out I was thinking maybe it had come across as a jerk post, but who doesn't love Red? :lol

I just saw it, I liked the beginning and middle but not so much the end. For a movie named Riddick we sure didn't know much more about his character. I was hoping for some type of closure to this series but there was really nothing there at the end.

I would've preferred more of Riddick trying to survive and get off the planet and then have him go after the Necros, kill the guy who stranded him, and find Furya at the end, or have him discover that he was on Furya the whole time at the end. Cut out the Mercs all together, I could care less about them or the plot about the guy trying to find out what happened to his son.

And the scorpion creatures were menacing and effective, a good followup on the night creatures from Pitch Black. The space dog (more of a space Hyena actually) stuff wasn't bad, though I think they phoned it in on that creature's design. Still I liked how Riddick got along with him.

If we learn about Riddick, we'll go against everything that made the character special. He's like Snake Plissken. You know to much, the character is ruined.

The thing I love about Riddick is, he never grows. Good throwback to the real heroes of film.

Riddick grew in both Pitch Black and Chronicles. At first he didn't care about anyone but himself, he slowly grew to care about the others to the point of saving them in PB. In Chronicles he cared enough about Kyra that even though he had a chance to run off, he instead went to save her and I think to get some revenge on the Necros. But besides character growth, there needs to be something new about the character at least otherwise it's a waste of time.

Well, he got a cool pet doggie. That's all the growth I want from this character.

The next Riddick they do, I want a little more back story on his origins, just a little more. I agree not lots, but a little more would be nice.

That's another thing l HATED about "Chronicles", was the Kyra character. She was Jack from "Pitch Black" grown up. Only could of worked if they had the same actress. Since they had a NEW actress and NEW face, they should have had a NEW character with some backstory that can be added to Riddick's backstory. She should have been an ex girlfriend of Riddick's who he maybe killed people with or something :lecture. They could of done something way better with her character then just saying, this girl is now an older crazy Jack.:cuckoo:

I don't think anyone cares that the actress wasn't the same, she looked similar enough which was probably what they were going for.

Anyways, just saw this one, really quite good, better than I thought it would be. Thought the ending felt a bit weird.
