I mentioned it in the collectors thread, but anyone who doesn't have both Riddick movies on Blu, WalMart is selling them at 12 bucks a piece for Steelbooks with matching artstyle boxes.

Anyone play the game? AWESOME STUFF....it was always weird to me how movie 2 was PG13 whereas the game - a prequel - was a hard R approach

That's because they took a rated R character from a rated R movie "Pitch Black" and a rated R game "Butcher Bay" and made COR into PG 13 so kids could see it in theaters. The second movie was nothing but a cash grab. It could have been ten times better then it was.

This New movie is going back to its roots, Diesel and David Twohy know COR was a flop considering what it could/should have been.

Riddick's story can't be told in PG 13 in my opinion.

Cool, totally forgot about franchise. Guess hes been busy making fast and furious. Thought escape from butcher bay was very underrated

The had BETTER stay clear of the second film, it sucked and was geared towards kids (just to bring in more money).

They need to go more of a pitch black direction again, and that is what they are doing. Everyone invovled knows COR was a flop and not to repeat it.

I disagree ( at least with the first part of your post ) , although "Chronicles.." failed to find an audience , it was a brave attempt to make a S.F film which was unashamedly that and not a comedy/action/western DISGUISED as S.F , like most of todays blockbusters . Yes it was big , overblown and more than a little pompous , but it was like an S.F novel put on the screen . The trailer for the new movie does indeed look excellent , but my only concern is that with the pressure to repeat the "formula" of Pitch Black , it might end up as just a "remake " or "reboot" . I personally would have liked to have seen the story continue . Either way , more Riddick is more than welcome and I can't wait for the new film ! :yess:

I haven't gone through this thread, but this movie really looks like a remake of the first one, on a bigger budget. Story looks so similar.

It really doesn't.
Riddick here must be a more complex/different character since he's a former Lord Marshal.
He must deal with mercs and stole their shipp to escape the planet.
Also there's no pitch black factor.

Wasn't this because of studio interference? I can't remember where but i want to say they had mentioned that it would have been a very different movie if not for the studio getting in the way.

If it hasn't been said, this movie will be rated R.

And if anyone is going to SDCC, Vin is going to be there.

As long as I get to see Riddick, monsters, and violence, i'm cool with it.

I would've liked to see a mix of 2 and 1, but they wanted to get back on the audience's side with this.

I'm excited.

Two sucked, they better of stayed away from that kind of story. This one looks pretty decent. Nothing will top the first though.:lecture
