Just finished it, I really enjoyed the show overall but I was disappointed with quite a few things as well.
Charlie Cox kills it as Matt Murdock and Daredevil. His performance really elevated the show in my opinion from just being like another one of those DC/WB television superhero shows. His acting was superb, I think he's easily given the best performance from a superhero/villain in the MCU so far.
The tone was excellent, and it was a nice change of atmosphere for Marvel, I'm not particularly fond of the cartoony, action based summer blockbusters movies that Marvel puts out every year. This was a great character study for both, Fisk and Murdock.
The supporting cast was good, But Vondie Curtis Hall really stood out to me. He was perfect as Ben Urich. What ends up happening to his character really bothered me because Ben is a pretty important Daredevil/Spider-Man character. I feel robbed of what they could have explored in later seasons, or even movies with his character. Major screw up from Marvel here.
I like how the writers focused on Wilson Fisk's past, and didn't make him a generic villain, by showing the viewers his history was smart, but D'onofrio's performance was way too over the top for my liking. In fact this was one of the reasons why I wish Daredevil would have been a movie instead of a show because this kind of acting can get by in a television show but could never make it in a movie, well a good movie at least. The voice, mannerisms, pretty much everything from him sounded way too forced and hammy. It kind of took me out of the whole dark and serious nature of the show. I know most people who watch these MCU films and shows don't pay much attention to the acting, but for me its a big deal, and Kingpin was major miss for me in that department.
The action and fight choreography were mixed for me. The hallway fight against everyone was solid but some of the fights did look a bit weird, and the camera work took away from some of the fight scenes in my opinion.
The suit he gets at the end looked really good minus the cowl. Hopefully that improves but I've never cared much about costumes in live action. If it's practical and makes sense then I'll go with it, whether it's accurate to the comics or not.
The show did a pretty good job sticking close to the source material, at least the Frank Miller miniseries (which was one of my favorite stories ever).
The Easter eggs were great, I'm sure I didn't catch all of them, but the Elektra and Iron Fist ones were well placed and didn't feel forced. I also love that they hinted at Matt and Elektra having a relationship in their college years, in fact the college years flashbacks was one of my favorite parts in the show. They were done much better than the flashbacks of when Matt was a child. Those flashbacks just felt way too melodramatic in my opinion. The kid wasn't a great actor at all and really hurt those scenes for me.
Overall I would give the show about a 7.5. I hope for the next season it looks a little less like a show and they cut out some of the cheesy direction (camera angles, dialogue, and some performances) and go full serious. Also I'd like to see Bullseye and Elektra brought in, as well as Daredevil fighting the Hand.
I still wish we could have gotten the R-rated 70s Daredevil reboot from Fox by Joe Carnahan. He seemed really passionate about the project and was going in an original direction for the genre that would have have kept the spirit of the comics. If done right, it could have been just as great and just as unique as The Dark Knight.
Here the pitch real he made, I would have loved to have seen a Daredevil movie in this fashion.
