Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

(The Red Letter media guys got so much crap for their review that have done TWO follow ups to their initial review addressing the anger to their review :lol )

Good. I didn't watch the RLM review but ripping apart a great movie for the sake of making a name for yourself *should* lead to damaged credibility.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I don't like those RLM type videos being posted in movie threads the first week a film is released because it's such a cheap way to steer the flow of conversation away from what people *individually* thought of a movie. So I don't think they have a part in any movie thread for probably the first 2-3 weeks after release. But if people posted those links in the RO thread now I wouldn't remove them (even if I still think such clips are nothing but stupid self-promoting clickbait.)

He didn't seem like an idiot, in fact him beginning by praising films like RO and 10 Cloverfield Lane told me he has pretty good taste. :) And poor editing does hurt a movie but doesn't necessarily kill it. The editing hurt SS yes (less so in the EE) but not to the tune of the 25% RT score or whatever it got. It never aspired to be a filmmaking masterpiece and I think it succeeded at being a fun collection of intros and action scenes with likable characters (because that's literally all it is, intros and then instant action. :lol) And I think there's a place for movies like that even if they'll be scoffed at (fairly or unfairly) by critics or whoever else.

Now with that being said I was able to enjoy SS as a fan of silly movies like the original Ghostbusters, The Frighteners, and Escape from LA. And with those three films I just mentioned you've got great, you've got good, and you've got crappy. :lol And I'd say SS falls somewhere between Frighteners and Escape with regard to quality. So that's what I compare it to. If I actually loved SS's source material and really wanted the movie to be a certain way and it failed miserably then obviously I would have been much harsher on it.

yeah I understand you,
I think editing CAN ruin a movie though. Specially deleting important scenes. Daredevil Director's cut is the prime example of a movie being ruined by editing. Daredevil is not the greatest movie but the director's cut definitely fixes a lot of its problems. The Wolfman Remake also suffered from a bad editor. the director's cut flows better and makes more sense.

I think in some cases editing can change a movie from being okay to totally losing its control.

I do like both Daredevil And Wolfman Remake and i can see how the theatrical cuts are a complete mess. I own both movies, and when I think about the differences in editing and cutting of important scenes I can see why a lot of people had problems.

A good director with a strong vision wont have this problem and he will help in the editing himself, some directors will tell them how to edit it. but in other cases either the studio or someone else will cut a movie and butcher it.
I think the guy in the video has good points. this movie was definitely butchered.

Damaged credibility? Because of an opinion of a film?

Only a SW would say something like that.

MCU fanatics
DCEU fanatic
Nolanites

might say it too...

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Like Genysis before it BvS will be forever marred by those horrendously spoiler-ific trailers. Who knows how it would have played had the studio allowed us to see the best parts cold.

For a movie I liked, I might wish I had avoided spoilers so I could have experienced those moments when I first watched it. If it's a movie I didn't like, not being spoiled beforehand wouldn't have really changed how I felt.

They had a name for themselves before Rogue One though . . . by bashing and ripping the prequels.

Does this comfort you? What say Khev.

they dont really need the views to make a name because their "BEST of the WORST" reviews keep them famous. Plus trashing Adam Sandler gave them notoriety.

the Rogue one vid was just a regular review from them.

Yeah Plinkett's TPM and AOTC reviews were hilarious. By ROTS he was already starting to wane though. I agree it was a bad film but I was surprised at how quickly his shtick devolved into all the weird kidnapping humor and the fact that he had to actually grasp at straws for certain criticisms against the movie. He came across as a one trick pony that wore out his welcome. I'm not surprised if they're struggling to keep/regain their notoriety.

But whatever, as long as their junk doesn't clog up movie threads when people are still trying to have a reasonable discussion I don't really care.

I recently saw those. And they weren't so much defending themselves, as insulting the buffoonish comments people were making.

I don't always feel the same way as the Red Letter guys do about movies (one of them had the nerve to rip on X-Men: Apocalypse of all things!), but one thing I never got from them was that they were being dishonest or trying to fit some mold. They'll often disagree strongly with each other, and do come off to me like real friends who come back from a movie and starting analyzing it. I can't say the same for many other Youtubers, which is why I don't watch many others.
