Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Sorry to the chap who needs a bath after reading, he obviously feels it's all rather personal.

That Catwoman does look a bit... off, might just be the cut lines not helping it tho. Timm's designs have always looked good in statue form, sometimes it's a bit hit and miss with the toys tho. Still good tho, stoked to see what else they come with in this line.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Is not that much difference price from what the DC Collectibles Arkham line is... What did u expect $5.00??? This isn't kenner or the year 1993.... It's the exact same price as all the other Arkham DC Collectibles line...

Yeah, $5.00, that's what I expected...LOL...good one...way to add to the discussion, Psycho.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

When these types of figures are $35 - $40 a pop (which they'll probably be within a year or so), I'm sure the same bickering will ensue. Personally, I like people *****ing about the prices. It reminds me that I'm still sane and realize that they are jacked up, even if hype is blinding me at the moment.

No matter how you slice it, all these damn collectibles are priced too high and gouged out the ***. Low end to high end. Ideally, I'd say these type of figures should be priced $15.00 a pop. NECA's 7" figures are priced right around there and are just as detailed, if not more so. There's rarely "value" any more. It doesn't matter if it's $15 Mcfarlane Walking Dead figures, or $22 Star Wars Black Series, there's really no "justifying" them.

Totally agree. I see a lot of people justifying some company's prices by comparing them to say what Mattel or Hasbro offer for roughly the same amount, but this doesn't mean you are paying a reasonable price.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Thing is though, we don't really know what the "cost of doing business" actually is, especially when you take profit into account. Everything seems to have gotten worse overnight, not just these toys. Costs have been cut, yet the pricing gets higher and higher. Whatever the cost of material, transportation, fuel, licensing actually is, I can assure you that that Sauron was more intricate, detailed, harder to make/mass produce, etc. for $19 than that Catwoman is for $25. Year of manufacturing be damned.
I'm not going to get into a long winded reply but let's be real, for most companies costs go up and not down. We don't see their books so we don't know all the specifics but everything from materials to keeping the electricity on to labor generally goes up in any industry. Some increases in an industry like this probably corelates to companies knowing fans will pay out but a lot of it I'm sure is just costs of business.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I remember when I was young and my parents refused to pay upwards of £60 for a megadrive cartridge, so I had to "make do" with a wave of BTAS figs

How times change

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I don't know if this was posted yet or not. It goes quick, but shows 360 degree reveals of Batman and Catwoman.
Batman definitely looks like the prototype, as the joints don't look fully jammed into their sockets (like the neck area).

Man, that Freeze looks rad.

I hope they do Ivy from BTAS.

:lecture I want to see all the rogues, and Ivy is a must.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand, I'm shocked when I go through a toy aisle at Wal-Mart around Christmas time and find that toys that were $8 when I was a kid are being sold for $15-20 a pop, but, at the same time, as others have said, I think it's a reflection of the times. Take the Hot Toys West Batman, for instance. My first thought when I saw all of the stuff he came with and the price was "that's actually not that bad." That price, by the way, was $200. That's the same price as the DX 01 and the DX 02 when they came out, though, so, it boggles my mind how my perceptions can change.

I think the worst thing, though, is when prices reflect the market. I've had Four Horseman Mattel Batman figures from 2003 that were just as good, if not better than the quality of the DCUC figures that are 3 times the price. They might not be as articulated, but the paint and sculpts on those things were pretty good for the time, and I'd wager that they had more detail than a lot of the current Mattel stuff. Hell, to that end, I'm pretty sure they even reuse the same models (I don't think the "Legacy" Mr. Freeze, for instance, is anything more than a repaint of the 2003 model). To that end, I can see where people are coming from. We can say that DC Collectibles are better than their competitors, but are they better than themselves? What I'm saying is that DC has had pretty solid products to begin with. So, to that end, can we say that these Batman figures are such a leap in quality that they'd be charging almost $10 more than what their Alex Ross Justice figures retailed for a few years back?

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I'm confused. Weren't they supposed to have Two-Face and Freeze at the Con. Here's Batman and Catwoman, but they're surrounded by War Superman and the Arrow two-pack:

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Yeah I thought their Facebook page said to look for the reveals of Two Face and Mr. Freeze this weekend.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Does anyone know if they have their own panel? Maybe they're waiting until that to show them off.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

In every market prices rise and rise until they reach a point where people are priced out of it or some sort of game changer comes along. Look at the Videogame and Home Video Market. I you'd had told me fifteen years ago I could go into a videogame store and pick up a game two weeks after release for less than £20 I'd have thought you were crazy. But piracy and digital distribution (as well as games generally becoming more popular) did that. I think as soon as home 3D printing becomes a viable option for the general public, we will see the playing field majorly change. Maybe some companies going out of business too.

Anyway, after getting over the initial hype I'm jus not feeling this first wave. I'm exclusively in for the BTAS stuff, especially at this price point, so I'm happy to wait it out for the future waves

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

That's why so many companies are playing to people's hearts with these type of nostalgia, retro releases. After that dries up, I'm not sure how much further this toy/doll/action figure thing will go.

:lol

No sooner do I say this and Mattel unveil Kenner "Super Powers" cards for figures they've already done. Seriously, I don't think there is anything left to do anymore as far as toys and originality go.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I'm curious what the packaging for these will be like. I'd like just the classic Gotham cityscape in red and black with a silhouette of Batman in black. Too bad most DC Collectibles packaging gets destroyed when opened though.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I'm thinking no shoulder articulation on bats. Worth it for the sweet cape design.

That Batman Beyond figure looks nice.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Looks like he comes with swappable Bruce and Terry heads too

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Yeah he's part of the new Total Heroes line but is a "premium" figure exclusive to Matty collector (so they can overcharge for him presumably). There's a green lantern corps one too

I love how the superpowers riddler has miscoloured green plastic to mimic the bootleg, when the batman 66 Riddler they put out ended up having that as an issue

That sucks, I'd pick it up but won't join Matty Collector. Hopefully it's available in the secondary market for a decent price.
