Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!
I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand, I'm shocked when I go through a toy aisle at Wal-Mart around Christmas time and find that toys that were $8 when I was a kid are being sold for $15-20 a pop, but, at the same time, as others have said, I think it's a reflection of the times. Take the Hot Toys West Batman, for instance. My first thought when I saw all of the stuff he came with and the price was "that's actually not that bad." That price, by the way, was $200. That's the same price as the DX 01 and the DX 02 when they came out, though, so, it boggles my mind how my perceptions can change.
I think the worst thing, though, is when prices reflect the market. I've had Four Horseman Mattel Batman figures from 2003 that were just as good, if not better than the quality of the DCUC figures that are 3 times the price. They might not be as articulated, but the paint and sculpts on those things were pretty good for the time, and I'd wager that they had more detail than a lot of the current Mattel stuff. Hell, to that end, I'm pretty sure they even reuse the same models (I don't think the "Legacy" Mr. Freeze, for instance, is anything more than a repaint of the 2003 model). To that end, I can see where people are coming from. We can say that DC Collectibles are better than their competitors, but are they better than themselves? What I'm saying is that DC has had pretty solid products to begin with. So, to that end, can we say that these Batman figures are such a leap in quality that they'd be charging almost $10 more than what their Alex Ross Justice figures retailed for a few years back?
